Manchester United vs. Arsenal

In fact, I would deem you even more insane given that I distinctly remember Santi Cazorla scoring against us in this 2-0 win we apparently had.

Ah yeah, I totally forget about that goal as it was a rare game that I had to leave early.

Similarly, there's people doing a fair bit of underrating as well. We have a lot more than "two top strikers".

Plenty of teams have controlled big games with lesser quality midfield's, winning ugly is not a necessity. The home factor is huge, we very rarely get a pasting at OT.

Yes we've been shit for the vast majority of the season. Arsenal on the other hand have been very good, but I find this juggernaut-esque tag people are supplying them with very generous. Form often means very little in these games anyway.

I don't think I was to be fair. I'm calling what I see on the pitch, others are calling from something else. I also find it hard to see how calling a team who have won about 14 out of 15 games a 'juggernaut' is 'generous'. What would they have to do for their momentum to be referred to as such?

I'm just trying to be honest really. I don't think it is unfair for us to be slight second-favourites here. And yes, again, I expect us to win ugly if we win, which will be fine by me. Let's not flatter ourselves, we are very unlikely to be able to pass them off the park. We have great attacking threats, although average tools in terms of actually getting the ball to them where it matters. Our star strikers could feasibly win us the game, but for us to win the midfield battle, it will likely be as a result of us just kicking their midfielders repeatedly - as opposed to us outplaying them. It wouldn't be the first time we've gone that route against them either.

No worries mate, doesn't really matter anyway, I was just being a prick! I get your point, we won fairly comfortably.

I'd be disappointed with even a draw. These United players didn't tough it out in enough matches the year before last and even last year...there wasn't enough heart there. But because they were so far ahead of the pack last year, it was masked. If Moyes can get that bit of fight back, coupled with the skill we know these lads have, then things will continue to go well. Eight unbeaten for us now. I think we can take them.

Yeah we need a win really. But if both teams plays the way they hAve this season, they could batter us. We really need to lift ourselves on Sunday and show our quality.

Reckon Moyes will go defensive and try not to lose to be honest. We aren't the favourites here and have lacked quite a lot of imagination against the teams above us in the league/European aways. Losing will really put a downer on Moyes' first campaign with us.

I don't think we can afford to play for a draw to be honest. Moyes needs to win a big game, the longer it goes without beating a top side then the more the pressure will grow. A win here would be a massive boost for us. We have to go for it. A top manager would see this as an opportunity where a risk has to be taken.

I hope old man Giggs doesn't start.

We need players who can be physically imposing in midfield to stop their midfielders from running riot. Fellaini would be a good bet.

Fellaini half asses everything and is a lazy kent. I rather Giggs and Cleverley any day over Fellaini. At least the other two can pick out a creative pass once in a while, Fellaini has no vision whatsoever.

I can see us conceding a couple of goals. We will get over run in midfield and we seem too unorganised at the moment to deal with teams pressing us.
11 points will be a massive gap but I think that will be the case come Sunday evening.

I might have to ignore this thread for the next few days.

Some right pessimistic bellends in attendance here.

Arsenal? fecking Arsenal? Are you all gone soft in the head or what?

We'll be well up for this one. I expect us to play hard and win.

It was such a meaningless goal nobody remembers it. Arsenal were utterly ducked in that game.

Exactly this, I left about 20secs before the end of the game, with the ball at the safe end, and was amazed we'd conceded, as 2-1 then sounded a tight game.
When in reality we utterly smashed them.

This is certainly a game we'll have to be at it from the off.
Van Persie silencing the cockney twats again from the off would be terrific.

The same fecking Arsenal that are top of the league and already 5 points clear. The same Arsenal that have more points than any other PL team this year. The same Arsenal that have played the best football in the league so far this season, flowing with confidence, on the back of a huge win in Germany etc etc.....
If by stating the fecking obvious that I think this current side that are lacking in confidence, penetration, quality on the central midfield area etc etc, are going to beat Arsenal on Sunday is being pessimistic.....then I guess I am.
Better that than being a 'bellend', pretending to be a top red.

Is Carrick injured?

I really hope he's fit for this :nervous:

Ah feck it, we'll beat these cocky bastards. I only wish they had a few more cnuts like they used to, makes them easier to dislike and made winning even more satisfying. There's no way we won't score at least twice, their defence has improved but van Persie will teach Koscielny a lesson and Mertesacker's tank-like turning circle will leave him struggling against the likes of Robin, Januzaj and Kagawa. [/hopeful]

They've been much better than us so far this season, even taking their easier fixtures into account. They also have the best midfield of all the league contenders, while we have the weakest. On top of that the player who basically held our midfield together on his own last season is struggling to make the game. We're certainly going to struggle to get any control if Carrick is out. Oh, Arsenal are more creative than us too.

It's not being pessimistic to say Arsenal are favourites here, it's being realistic. I'm sure the bookies' odds reflect that too, or have we been made favourites on the basis that it's just "fecking Arsenal"?

I kind of feel the same way. I feel we've been standing on the back foot parrying the blows and sticking the dagger in when we can to drop a team. I see this as the 'killshot' game. Step up and get on the offensive and put them down then go swinging through the crowd taking anyone and everyone else down in a bloody mess.

.. :D

De Gea
Rafa Evans Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Januzaj Rooney Nani
Van Persie

I'm convinced that Adnan is starting seeing as he had the night off on Wednesday. Moyes is making some ballsier calls at the moment and I think the selection of Januzaj will seen as the case, outside of United anyway. Valencia has started two games off the belt, and going by the way in which Moyes tends to rotate the team, I suspect he'll be out, with Nani coming in.

Personally, I'd like to see Kagawa play, albeit if we intend on keeping it tight and hitting on the counter, given that Rooney and Van Persie will of course be starting, it makes sense to play Adnan and Nani as they are more direct. If Tom isn't fit then in comes Fellaini. If Rafa isn't fit then I'd rather see Valencia there.

I actually have a good feeling about this. As long as we play a defence with a hint of energy and Rooney isn't cemented up top alongside Robin, I think we'll do well. A negative selection will only get what it deserves.

Good team.

Apparently Flamini will be back, but Giroud is struggling which would be a massive blow.
