Manchester United vs. Arsenal

I'm certain Giggs won't start so soon after the Sociedad game - even if Cleverley and Carrick miss the game then I can't see Giggs being involved, perhaps not even from the bench. It'll be Jones and Fellaini in a two against some mix of Arteta, Ramsey, Flamini, Rosicky, Wilshere and Cazorla.

Give me strength Lord

Based on what? Just compare our midfield to Arsenal's, how does Fellaini, Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs, Carrick, Nani, Valencia, Januzaj, Kagawa, Young match up to Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Walcott, Rosicky. They are worlds apart. It's so unreasonable to expect Moyes to be able to lead this current team to the title, but a 3rd place finish is possible. If we manage to win this Sunday I'll be absolutely ecstatic.

Our midfield - from who you've just listed there - is equally good as theirs. Özil is their only addition and I'll be fecked if he's the difference between us pulverising them at Old Trafford last year and them us (hypothetically) this year.

I'm not having it.

Absolutely. Such defeatist bullshit.

How is our midfield equally as good? I don't think any of our midfielders when get into their team. An in-form Carrick probably would. Valencia, Fellaini, Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs and Young would get nowhere near. Januzaj's still 18, Nani seemingly can't get his form back and Kagawa won't either.

Yes our strikeforce is comfortably better and I think our defences are pretty similar but their midfield players are way better than ours. It's a huge difference.

our defence is better than them. We are certainly better than them up front. The real difference is Ozil and Ramsey. We get half-way matching that with Rooney. Carrick and Cleverley...personally I prefer Jones....

imo Rooney, Carrick and Jones/Cleverley can match Ozil,Ramsey and Arteta.

We have better depth but for the first eleven it's totally subjective.

And Rooney is a striker.

Football isn't played on paper. Naming a bunch of United midfielders and saying it is equal to Arsenal's is retardrd when we all know that their midfield is better than ours. Or do we not even bother to watch what happens on the actual pitch anymore and just get involved in name wars?

Same as saying our defence is easily better. Not on the evidence I have been seeing.

Nobody would be that surprised if we got a pasting on Sunday yhe way things are going. We have two top strikers, other than that, we overrate ourselves. Football is a team game anyway, and as a collective, Arsenal are a level above.

That said, we must find a way to get three points. However, I just believe that for us to win, we must win ugly, as I doubt we can control the game against them. Any type of win will do me.

Lets hope there will not be any embarrassment on the result. They are on fire and we are in zombie mode lossing points after points.

Similarly, there's people doing a fair bit of underrating as well. We have a lot more than "two top strikers".

Plenty of teams have controlled big games with lesser quality midfield's, winning ugly is not a necessity. The home factor is huge, we very rarely get a pasting at OT.

Yes we've been shit for the vast majority of the season. Arsenal on the other hand have been very good, but I find this juggernaut-esque tag people are supplying them with very generous. Form often means very little in these games anyway.

Moyes vs Wenger in PL 3 wins 6 ties 13 losses

No you won't. You'll find something else to have moan about. Face it - you're only happy when you're spilling negative sewerage on the Caf. This game is very winnable from both sides of the fence. Arsenal haven't beaten us at home since 2006. It's not being realistic to deny that there will be more than a 'very good chance' that we will win on the weekend.

I'd hate to be working under you if you were this cynical and negative in real life.

It's worth noting that we dominated Arsenal's 'superior' midfield at Old Trafford last season. They're high in confidence right now and have Ozil, but it's still worth noting, for the people writing us off just because Arsenal have a stronger midfield.

In fact, they've almost always had a stronger midfield in recent seasons and look at our record against them.

Yeah well our midfield did just fine last year against Madrid which had Modric Ronaldo and Ozil, and this year we have an on form Rooney plus Januzaj, we have every right to believe we can win this game.

Currently, their defence is superior to ours, by a fair distance.

Yep. Don't know why people keep suggesting that our defence is better. We don't have a settled central pairing. Our RB is constantly changing. We seem unsure of what to do everytime the ball is in the box. Everything about our defence is comical currently. Teams like Stoke did not find it too hard to score against us. I'm sure Arsenal will easily score a couple. People are deluding themselves if they think any aspect of our team is currently better than theirs.

I know, that's why I think we have a chance too. But then based on last season standard we should be 8 points ahead of Arsenal now, not the other way round.

We're going to be playing a supremely confident Arsenal side who will, no doubt, score goals against us. This being said, there's absolutely no reason why we won't raise our game accordingly and put them back in their place, just to remind everyone that we're still alive and kicking :D

It's Ghaliboy the superfan again.

I think I'm going to have join the majority and put you on ignore because it's impossible for anyone to have a debate with you.

I'm still confident we will win. Yeah, Arsenal have done well so far this season and had some excellent results going their way, but still... we're at home, we know how to beat this lot and it's not like we're fielding a bunch of amateurs. I also can't see how they are favourites, we are at home, we are on the up, und have beaten the same Arsenal side (bar Ozil) multiple times in the past. If we played City or Chelsea, I'd be a lot less confident, but Arsenal haven't done anything at Old Trafford in close to a decade, no matter how good they were.
Regarding the midfield I just have to say we've been up against better midfields at times and still played well. When was the last time when Arsenal – on paper – didn't have a better midfield than us? Our CM will be in there to contain Ramsey and Ozil while Rooney will take care of Arteta (similar to last year). Attacking-wise I feel we're better than them, though we lack their movement in the middle of the park.

this was meant to be the period where it all went tits up for Arsenal, yet they utterly dominated Pool and have had a cracking result last night.
They don't even need to win at our place, a draw and they keep this huge 8 point gap over us.

It's a must win game for us, to reign them in, and to finally climb the league decently, as it's so bunched from us to 2nd.
A win would mean we've done a faily good salvage job after a dodgy start, and would have played City, Chelsea, Pool and Arsenal in the first 11 and still be in and around.

, yeah, because I'm the one struggling to debate here..

Moyes' team talk done then! Can we start Fletcher just to follow Ozil round and batter him?

What would be the funniest way to beat them?

1. Midfield of Fellaini, Jones, rough them up, 2-0 Utd. Followed by a week long media out-cry about Arsenal being kicked off the park.
2. van Persie dive in the 90th minute to win a penalty and score, 1-0 Utd
3. Dodgey sending off for their keeper in the early minutes and we win unconvincingly, 1-0
4. Ashley Young hat-trick.

Van Persie scoring at any stage would be funny, as it was last season from that brain fart at the back. They absolutely despise him now.

Arsenal have a settled defence now, something which we don't have. We don't have a clue who the 2 centre backs are going to be going into any game right now, and Rafael will be a huge loss. I can see us trying to shut up shop and snatch a goal at some point.

If Evans is still injured then I supposed Rio will come in which is bad news given his recent form.

If you had told me a year ago, after we played out one of the most one-sided 2-0 victories I've seen in years at Old Trafford, that I would be worried by the prospect of Arsenal coming to Old Trafford just over a year later... I'd have deemed you insane.

Arsenal have had a great start to the season and the are great with the ball and have a great midfield. However, their midfield still lack pace and mobility when they don't have the ball. We are still lacking that bit of creativity in midfield. We really miss Fletcher in these kind of matches and I'm not sure if Fellani is quite ready yet. We need to sit back and hit them on the counter.

I want Kagawa and Rooney in the hole behind RVP. Don't push either out wide as neither are that effective there. If three centrally up front may seem a lot, in which case refer to it as one up front and two in AM. The prospect of the interplay between the three of them, playing centrally, is enough to make the naughty area tingle a bit.

If only football was 12-a-side!

In fact, I would deem you even more insane given that I distinctly remember Santi Cazorla scoring against us in this 2-0 win we apparently had.

Again, paper/computer game football.

We have NOT beaten the same Arsenal team before. When it suits peoples rose tinted optimism, we'll get 'why shouldn't we be confident this season? Cleverley will be a year older', bla bla bla.

We are seeing the results of the growth Arsenal were going through when we beat the 'same' players before. Mertesacker, Koscielny, Ramsey, Giroud etc - they are different propositions now to the ones that have faced us.

Other people's players improve too.
