Manchester United vs. Arsenal

Yep, he'll be told to do the Fletcher/P.Neville 'get about them' job in the middle of the pitch. I just hope Carrick is fit to be next to him.

I expect him to play.

I'm expecting something like the team below, the * is on the ones I'm not too sure of.

De Gea
Smalling Ferdinand* Vidic Evra
Carrick Jones
Valencia* Rooney Januzaj
Van Persie

Usually I would like to see Evans in for one of them, probably Rio but when I think more and more about this one, I think it will be Rio and Vidic. They are not going to hurt us in behind, they will play in front of us, so I don't think it's a problem using both Rio and Vidic. This is a big game, these guys know how to get the job done in a big game (not that Evans doesn't) and I just think with their presence and experience, Rio and Vidic could be very important.

The mobility in the middle is more important.

the key is the midfield. More and more I think about this, Jones has to play. He is not just great at tackling, but is fast and good at distribution as well. Rooney will have to play in midfield.

So Carrick/Jones/Rooney is what I would like to see.

As long as it's a three man midfield, with Carrick and without Cleverley I'm happy

Just watched the highlights of the 8-2 match. Gosh what happened to that Ashley Young? Also, Arsenal's back 4 defending was hilariously terrible, especially for Nani's goal.

Arsenal back 4 plays a high line making it difficult to beat the offside trap. I would say RvP poaching abilities combined with Rooney's intelligence would tip the scale against us. I am more worried on the defence. Against Dortmund, arsenal were a bit shaky on the wide areas too. Valencia would have a good time.

I hate to say it, but this is a game for Young. Both Nani and Januzaj tend to cut in at the box. We will be depending on Evra to stretch their defence.

He knew where R1+O was rather than just pressing L1+Spinning L3.

Doesn't a high back like make beating the offside trap easier?

That decision is worse than anything we've had in our favour. Ridiculous. Ronaldo genuinely can't believe it.

There was also the obscene Fletcher sending off in the CL semi 2nd leg. Brilliant tackle, somehow given as a pen for the Arsenal and cost him a place in the final. Robbery.

(I know that one wasn't at Old Trafford but still the mind boggles at how bad a decision that was)

Jesus, it wasn't even the worst decision in the same game. Interesting as well despite it being stone wall, the appeals are pretty muted from all of the United players. That must have been in Ronaldo's diving phase.

Agree on Fletcher. No-one wanted that.

Still, there's no comparison. Wenger said that when United are in difficulty, they usually get a penalty. I struggle to disagree with the evidence presented over the years to back up that claim.

How many pens have we had in games against you? I bet it's just another myth, like the "you don't get anything at Old Trafford" or "Fergie has the refs in his pocket" bollocks. No one looks at the facts as that's too real. Since the PL began, Liverpool have had more penalties than any other team yet it's Utd who opposition fans talk about. How people like to tarnish the winners.

Sorry? I pointed out you've had five in the last six league games. That's a huge percentage, given we rarely concede penalties on the whole.

It's not about the amount of penalties either. It's about the ferociously awful decisions that have led to them.

Like the Ronaldo non-pen you mean?

Edit: and how can you say "awful decisions" when only 1 or 2 were debatable and the rest stone-wall like van Persie's last time out. Nailed on pen, Sagna was awful there, not the ref.

We even beat you with Rafael and Fabio in midfield. So I think you need to concentrate less on the referee and more on your own team and the 8 years of winning bugger all.

You pick out one example and ignore the loads you've had.

The refereeing we've had up there has been nothing short of sickening. It's got to the point that I don't even look at it as a league fixture - more of a display of cheating, diving and fouling.

I've just been watching some old matches to remind myself how much I hate some of the players you've had over the years - Van Nistelrooy tops it.

:D Leave horse face alone. He was a brilliant player.

You've had some beauties too. Keown obviously and the french fancies, mainly Pires. You went through a phase of thinking you were holier than thou, how dare you try and tackle me. So cocky and arrogant that him and Henry did that penalty feck up. Talk about a lack of respect.

We were holier than thou though, that's the thing. Henry could do that, and we could smile and accept it.

We were up for being tackled, not for being hacked. The hatchet job done on Reyes remains to me the worst bit of Ferguson management ever. Instructing his team to hack the opposition is something I thought only Pulis would have done.

You've had none of that 'sickening' refereeing have you? No of course not, just 2 blatantly offside goals in a 2-2 draw in 2003 but of course people forget that.

You've had plenty in your favour too, you're just blind to it, and usually seething after a defeat as we've been good enough to win despite poor calls.

As well as the various incidents mentioned above I remember Kolo Toure blocking a goal bound shot with both arms, with nothing given.

It maybe didn't affect the result because we were winning anyway, so we don't simmer on it, but decisions have gone both ways.

Remember when you were getting dicked 4-0 at Old Trafford in the FA Cup and your players just started trying to assault us? No, of course you don't.

Eboue's GBH on Nani was 10x worse than any of the hard tackles dealt out to poor little Weyes.

See it is that attitude that I'm thankful Fergie never let our players endulge in. Even though we have been significantly better and more successful than you, you've never seen our players do a penalty like Henry and Pires did. Fergie would have wiped the floor with them.

And funny how Pires or Overmars never got affected by Neville's hard tackling. Only Reyes... And Giggs who's been hacked down for 20 years on the left wing never let it affect him...

Good shout. Forgot about that. I remember being fuming after that game. Felt like we'd been robbed. Wasn't that the same game when Sol Campbell smashed his big fat elbow into Ole's face? And then acted outraged when he got a red?

Another good example and forgotten about. Never mentioned but how they got away with that I'll never know.

You're kidding yourself if you think weaknesses wont be targeted. Many players get fouled as a plan, some get up and get on with it and become stars, the likes of Reyes buckle down and let it affect them and thus end up getting more of it dished out before they eventually just give up.
