Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Any credible rumours around today regarding us?
12 days till the WC.
Konoplyanka is a fair chance, Fabregas maybe? Clasie I'd say is a possibility, Mephis Depay could happen too. Not sure about Shaw.

Who the hell is this guy, seen his name being thrown around. Isn't he a winger?
Yeah he's a winger, plays in Ukraine has a release clause of €12-15m. He's not Sanchez or Reus, but he's better that what united already have. Good prospect turns 25 this year.

ughh - that's exactly the type of player I DON'T want....'not amazing, but better than current...great prospect etc etc'

I agree, with every player you don't know how their going to react to the EPL but signing non top world class players then we risk filling the squad with more mediocrity

If the club listened to your opinions we would never have signed schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Kanchelskis, cantona to name a few

The situation back then was different, there's no huge difference between finishing 4th or 5th and a lot of the time we were ADDING to a already successful squad.

This summer we need to undo the dreadful Moyesification of 13/14 and spending a lot of money on proven players gives us the best chance of doing so.

We can still sign the younger prospects like Ronaldo, Chicharito and the likes when we signed them, but a 25yo should not be a prospect, and if he is, it's more than likely he isn't good enough.

You're all hung up on the word "prospect" rather than looking at if he's a good player (he is) and would he make an impact (he would)

I very much doubt most of us will have heard his name let alone seen him play prior to these rumours.

Maybe, fair chance, possibility, not sure...

So basically you don't know?
Bit of guessing but also putting my opinion out there on the chances of united signing the players they've been frequently linked with.

True, I don't have a problem with us signing a 25yo squad player, but a 25yo prospect is not a good idea.

I've heard his name, but don't know anything about him.

At this rate we're not even going to replace outgoing players, let alone strengthen to the level required. We're going to be lucky to get one midfielder when, ideally, we need two. For example, Fabregas on his own isn't going to transform our midfield.

Think we're in for another long season.

Van Gaal's list according to De Telegraaf newspaper in Holland, Strootman, Schweinsteiger, Konoplyanka, and Hummels.

This newspaper has been reliable on all things Van Gaal and were the first to break that we were talking to Van Gaal in view to appointing him our manager.

This would make me happy

If you add Shaw, then that is the exact same list that James Scowcroft (United we stand contributor) said a few days ago, so I'd guess there's something in this.

If we got those five in, I'd be very happy.

I may be wrong but transfer window lasts till 31st of August. Why are people panicking so much.
Because people got overly excited by a fictitious 200m we have to spend and convinced themselves we were going to get likes of fabregas, kroos, reus, vidal. Most of those targets have surprisingly quickly proved not going to happen (although for some reason fab seems to be a goer again) and people are realising the targets that are left are less than glamorous

The window could be 4 weeks short depending on the players we are targeting and the progress of their team in Brazil. Also, if we are negotiating with them currently then its better to sign them before the WC. A break is not always good.

Strootman and schwiensteiger is dangerous.

Strootman out till october after serious injury. Schwiensteiger has been injured most of season, I hear he has tendonitis (anyone else hear this?) And if bayern are willing to let him go for supposedly so little I do worry. They could both easily get crocked snd we could end up relying on our current midfield.

happy to take a punt on Strootman but not sure about Schweinsteiger

EDIT actually in fairness he made 36 appearances this season

Did Strootman have been checked by netherland doctor ? If he has maybe that's why Van Gaal is not worried.

The Dutch medical team must've assessed Strootman and given their verdict on his recovery hence Strootman being a target in this window.

The worry with Konoplayanka is that he'll end up like Arshavin. He turns up and we all notice that he might not actually be that great but we spend our time trying to convince everyone that he's world class.

I've not really seen much of him but the fact he's gotten to 25 playing in a third rate league suggests he's either a late bloomer or we'd be making a mistake signing him.

Yep, always my first thought when any PL club gets linked with him. Everything about his game and his situation screams Arshavin MkII.

No one is doing that.

Konoplyanka plays like Robben in many ways (Hug the line, come inside and shot, pass through), i think that he is just a Van Gaal, winger prototype that's why he is a target.

He is far from being world class but in the dozen of times i have seen, i think that he is a very good player in the good days and transparent in the bad days.

Good assessment mate

In my opinion he should've moved after Euro 2012, he's just stagnating in the Ukrainian league and will be a revelation for us if we sign him. He would be the most exciting signing as far as I'm concerned.

we had a bid for Sanchez rejected apparently

So Young MkII then? I think I'd rather not.

I haven't suggested they are. Obviously enough I'm referring to the nonsense the Arsenal fans used to spout about Arshavin. The same sort of nonsense we'd inevitably have people spouting about him.
