Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

We have been linked with only Kane this transfer window for a striker (Benzema was a step too far). We need to strengthen the striker dept. Hopefully some deal is on the works like the Darmian transfer. We can't expect to compete on multiple fronts with one recognizable striker.

But with the midfield we have this season, finally it'll be the other clubs looking at us with envy about the midfielders we have at our disposal and for a change not the other way around. Credit to Woody and LvG.

I dont think we will be buying a striker.

Rooney now has no position in midfield, and as our Captain he is guaranteed to play. The only spot left for him is as striker. LVG wanted a 20 goal forward, and he has just bought exactly that in Depay. Between those two, Mata and Di Maria we have four top class players in 3 positions.

The Muller rumours were imo journalists hearing we were talking to FCB, putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

Besides Schneiderlin, I can't see anything big happening until the season starts.

We need another striker certainly. Assuming hernandez goes we can't go a season with just rooney and Wilson. Rooney bound to get injured somepoint.

Unfortunately i see lvg trying to shore horn ADM/depay up there when needed instead

We NEED 3 players:

Gk
Cb
Striker

Schneiderlinwould be a bonus

Can't see us not signing a centre half and a striker, those two signings seem inevitable. I would say we. Also need schneiderlein and a keeper to replace de gea but it's unlikely we will get all those deals done.

If we're going to sign a striker, sign someone that can play right across the front 3. No point signing a CF and then watching rooney be fit for 30 games in a row. Maybe sub appearances but then wilson doesn't get a sniff.

Also, I hope we bring someone in that fits the style. I often hear that LVG prefers big strong tradition CFs but I can't even imagine how lost benteke would look in our possession style.

I like Lacazette because he can clearly play as a wide striker too. I love Muller for this reason and if he was gettable I think he'd complete us (along with schneiderlin and a CB). Another one we could nick but probably not this season would be alexis sanchez. Look at City's success in building a talent team and you realise a big part of it is signing players from rivals.

Otherwise, Cavani could play out on the right but I've watched him play there plenty and I think it is pure accomodation, he is underwhelming there.

Benzema would be similarly wasted out wide and would give us a problem of again having to play 2 up top when him and rooney are fit or play rooney cm. unacceptable issue in my opinion.

Kane might work if he was happy to be patient and replace rooney in 2-3 years fully. I am concerned about the Kane price tag though as I really don't think he's proved enough. Had a good second half of the season but first half of the year he was scoring deflected frees, penos and in the capital one cup mostly. Not worth the 45m we are likely looking at, Levy is brilliant at his job.

After that we are talking about second tier premiership strikers and having them as back up, sakho mentioned, benteke, lukaku

This is a signing I really think we need to get right as it affects the balance of our squad so much. I am sick and tired of having to play 2 strikers. We are finally rid of that problem and spending a large sum of money to get it back seems nuts.

At the same time I think we could bring in another top class player for the front 3 as long as he could play anywhere across it. Di Maria is fairly at home on either wing so left or right is fine.

Everything is suddenly possible.

Under Fergie, we only ever signed one ready-made world class player from the continent (Veron). The current regime seem intent get whomever they want. The transfer forum is finally fit for purpose after years of getting it wrong about everyone. What a time to be alive.

I simply don't think we have enough goals in the side. It looks like our midfield is complete, so we're going to need to find those goals from the front line.

Rooney, Mata and possibly Depay are the only reliable goal getters in the side but none have shown themselves to be prolific at the top level in the last few years. I'd be much happier with another winger/wide forward who can get 10-15 per season. Ideally that winger could also deputise for Rooney whenever he's injured.

The great thing about our current midfield is that it's now good enough to compensate for all the luxury players we have. That should give us more options for whom we might want to buy. I think we'll need our front 3 to do a lot of pressing but not a lot of tracking back. There should be plenty of players around who fit that profile.

With Schweinsteiger, the German national team captain in the squad as a precedent, we might have a much improved chance to sign some top quality Bundesliga players. eg. For @Dante's 10-15 goal per season winger, we could sign the most obvious target - Marco Reus who can play on the left, on the right, as a #10, even as a center forward on occasion when Rooney goes down and wouldn't cost the earth. A wing combo of Reus (provided he improves his fitness record), Memphis and Di Maria would be devastatingly versatile, though he doesn't necessarily fit the patented Van Gaal left foot mold for the right flank.

Depay was the top-scorer in the Eredivisie last season. He should chip in quite well, especially with his free-kicks. Rooney has always scored plenty of goals when played consistently at center-forward.

A striker, a defender and a Schneiderlin away from challenging for the title and being serious contenders in the latter stages of the CL.

If De Gea leaves, a decent keeper as well.

GK
CB
CM
STR

Still outstanding. . and depending on Di Maria/Ramos might be another CB/RW coming in. I'd say get the 4 positions above sorted we'd be title contenders. The muppet in me thinks we are missing a superstar attacker though. .depends heavily on Di maria going though.

Oblak
Darmian Smalling Otamendi Shaw
Schneiderlin
Herrera Schweinsteiger
Reus Lacazette Depay

I suppose we suddenly realised we have to join everyone else if we are to keep seriously competing. If Valdes and De Gea go, then we very seriously need to get a GK - who do we have left?

We need a striker, and badly.

We need someone who can produce like RvP did in his first season here.

Does anyone seriously think Rooney is at that level still?

Who is at that level ?

It's nice to want things but they have to be available first. If we buy any striker it has to be back up to rooney.

I find it hard to believe we would let RVP go without having a replacement lined up, so this coming week should be interesting.

Why would be be buying someone to be back up to an ageing Rooney.

I don't know who'd be at that level, but if Greizmann was available for a price that isn't ridiculous I'd be after him.

Captain Rooney is not going to sit on the bench and isn't wanted anywhere in midfield by lvg.

He's the best striker option we have atm we should buy cover, a young striker who will be ready to step up as Rooney ages. I'd happily take greizmann as he can also play on the wing

I'm going to be controversial here...what about Charlie Austin? Did pretty well for QPR of all teams, he'd be pretty cheap and he'll be happy to play 2nd fiddle to Rooney.

Think if it's possible we need to keep DDG for this season, then just get the CB and striker in, lose Rafael, and Evans then say we are done.

We need everything settled asap and selling too many players/ too many player coming in will cost us.

Otemendi, and Kane/ Lacazette will put us in a great position on top of what we've got.

My heart says 'sod it' - It's going to happen, so sell Di Maria for 60 million to PSG and then throw 85 million in cash onto the Bayern Munich pitch for Muller and see if anything moves. It won't of course, nor will Ramos be heading this way and De Gea will leave for certain.

So... Push for Benzima in the De Gea deal, buy Schneiderlin and Otemendi on Monday morning and then get the best goalkeeper you can find and do a deal ASAP so he can at least get a couple of friendly games under his belt before the season kicks off. Sounds simple to me!

Seriously though, We have made some awesomely good signings this summer - let's keep to the same high standards - Schneiderlin is a must, I'll wait and see for the rest.

I think Schneiderlin and Otamendi will soon be done.

Goalkeeper is depending on what Real offer if they aren't matching our valuation it could drag on which is my main concern because we need the new keeper to bleed in with the team. But we'll see maybay things start moving now Casillias is officially gone. Real also signing Casilla (from espanyol) makes me belive Navas will be part of a DDG deal (but Ramos I think not). I thionk it will be like £20m-£25m in cash plus Navas. The oblak rumours are not coming out of nowhere so I think we might want to sign him aswell (which probably matches the rumours Valdes is off to Turkey).

Striker I don't know might be Benteke

This is going so well so far! I think what we need now is:
  • Striker to replace RvP.
  • CB if we can get someone of real quality, otherwise fine.
  • GK if De Gea goes.
We no longer need LB cover as Darmian, Blind and Rojo can all play there if needed.

If things stayed exactly as they are now in terms of ins and outs, the 2nd XI from this 25 man squad would be as strong as some first teams we named last season:

still need a world class CB at the very least. if not we'll end up playing with carrick-mcnair at the back at certain point.

rooney as a CF should get 20- 25 goals at the very least. if not then maybe it is time to get a truly world class forward and rooney has to go. hernandez is a good option off the bench but if rooney is out for a month would he be able to carry the burden? wilson is still young and unproven too.

assuming de gea stays it is good news. if not we'll need another top young keeper as a competitor for and learner from valdes.

Just three more bits of business for us to tie up now:

1. Tie DDG down on a new long term contract
2. Solid new CB to play alongside Smalling
3. Top striker.

Well, we signed a Dutch guy, an Italian, a German and a French guy. It's obvious that a Spanish guy is next. Ramos it is.

My preferred scenario is thus:

Two ball playing CB - to partner Smalling or Jones. I do believe we need a strong British defender to deal with Lukakus and Carrolls of this league and a centerhalf pushing forward, so a player who is comfortable with a ball on his feet.

Striker- someone who wouldn't mouth off if wasn't selected but good enough to provide cover and competition for Rooney.

so in a perfect world: 2 CBs and a striker, but 1 CB and a striker will do as well.

How would people feel if we dont sign another defender and striker ?
Can we manage with what we have ?

Defender is a must, we're one injury away to playing Evans. :nervous:

I don't think striker is that important if we're going to continue playing with just 1 on top. It will also be hard to sign someone good that would agree to be Rooney's backup.

I am perfectly fine if we don't sign another striker. But another defender is a must.
No I think we need both. A new striker would be as much to push Rooney into performing as anything else although I would love an Adidas / Di Maria funded mega signing like Muller.
