Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

Moyes has weaken you....

I expect a title challenge this year after one year of Philosophy.

I just don't think we will have the firepower to mount a title challenge, I see another transition season to get us back to the old days of smaller, more focused summers.

That's what this summer is about though. Bring in Schneiderlin, schweinsteiger, otamendi/Ramos, darmian to add in depay and we probably have the best squad in the league. Especially if players like mata and di maria are at their best.

Those additions will all need time to bed in and will improve our defense and midfield, but I don't see the dynamic threat up top to actually win the league, I think it will be the next window when we go all in to address that, most importantly the striker position where I feel we have fallen significantly behind the top 2.

I still have hope Rooney will be fine there.. Besides, our form in the second half of the season was basically title challenging bar the last 5 games after we wrapped up top 4 basically. Depay and mata should add plenty of goals though, especially depay, and our team as a whole will be better then last season because we are more adapted to van gaals style. I'm not sure if we'll win it but we will definitely challenge for the title IMO.

We had a decent patch in the second half of the season but then suffered another shake as soon as Carrick got injured, I don't feel we ever sustained form. I don't think Rooney is a big game change these days, he'll bag goals for sure but the best strikers are difference makers in the tight ones. I also don't really see Mata is a regular threat playing on the wing and while I feel Memphis will turn into a top singing, I think he will need a season to get used to the huge step up from a 3rd tier league.

If we somehow manage to reach the end of the window with the possibility of playing a game with this team, then....

De Gea

Darmian Smalling Ramos Shaw

Schneiderlin Herrera

DiMaria

Mata Rooney Depay

Will be a huge ask - although it seems the hardest task of all that would be to convince De Gea to stay.

Agree with that, but to challenge for the league title, what you need is to be consistent in beating the teams you should be beating, and by strengthening all over the pitch, we'll be more likely to do that. We had the best record in the big games last season anyway so we just need to cut out the shit losses like against Leicester, west brom, Swansea, etc.

Rooney is finished as a top top striker IMO. You can probably count on one hand the number of great games he has had in the last couple of seasons whist I lose count of the number of poor / mediocre games.

Those are the games where I feel you need that dynamic quality a bit more than the big games as those teams pack the defense so tightly and you need a bit of a spark to open them. Right now I feel we miss that, we can keep possession for fun but we lack that dynamic cutting edge that comes with a top striker and threat from both wings.

There's a fortnight to go until our first pre-season game, 5 weeks until the premier league and 7 weeks until the UCL qualifiers.

What exactly are we late for?

Signing players ahead of pre-season training so that they for once can have a full preseason to gel with the team.

We still need to sign some players.. one player who we were forced into signing early doesn't look like rgeat planning for the start of August.

Jesus fecking Christ "LvG has never participated in transfers" :wenger:

Do you overreact to everything? :D

I did not say or mean, 'He's never influenced transfers.' But a manager who can say, 'I don't care about money' clearly has had limited involvement in the nitty-gritty of getting it done.

Need to wrap schneiderlin deal up ASAP this for me should be priority. Still think LVG is craving Strootman.

Ok lads its a new week. :D

Keep the confidence guys, I'm sure we WILL make a signing this week at some point I'm calling it now. Who that may be God only knows but we WILL see a new face.

In Ed we trust!!!

GK we need to wait to see what will happen concerning DDG, worst case scenario is we are left with Valdes and Lindegaard as goalkeepers which is a risk we can take imo. However keeping DDG for another year is also a viable option. If he does leave and we have time to find a replacement Lloris should be our man.

Darmian
Otamendi
Schneiderlin

All look like signings we can make an all would improve us so I think we should increase our efforts on these deals and get them wrapped up asap.

For striker position I think we can best wait and see what happens on pre season with RVP and Wilson (Hernandez) to determine wheter we need somebody at all, also depending on who might be available to us.

Ramos and Schweinsteiger would be interesting opportunities but we shouldn't lay all our eggs in these baskets because there is a high likelihood they won't happen. I see it more as opportunities that we should take if they can happen as they would improve us but not dossiers we should be prioritizing above everything else.

-Lloris only if DDG leaves
-Darmian must buy
-Schneiderlin must buy
-Otamendi must buy
-Striker wait to see what happens on pre season
-Ramos get him if we can but don't wait for him
-Schweinsteiger get him if we can but don't wait for him

I actually think we will be announcing two signings this week, perhaps Darmian and Schneiderlin.

well if RVP and Rafeal both join Falcao and Nani out the door, that is allot of wages freed up. Gives us even more room for wages, which I do think both RVP need to go. Now if DDG leaves along with RVP Rafeal falcao and nani, the club cannot cut corners with the GK situation.

But on paper DDG Rafeal nani Falcao and RVP that is some quality leaving the club

Fingers crossed something does happen a day has pretty much gone by since I wrote that this morning and there's nothing at all happening today.

Oh well, roll on Tuesday!!

Didn't Van Gaal say he wanted a smaller squad? Can't remember the number he said now.

Not with this bunch half of them are made from paper

You'll be lucky to get more than 60 games from smalling, jones and evans combined

Carrick is crocked

Shaw seems to have found him way to the treatment room and likes it there (probably alot of players to play cards with)

Valdes coming out of serious injurry

What kind of team is LVG expecting to have left to play with ?

I would be very happy if we got: Schneiderlin, Otamendi & Darmian.

Not particularly big names but solid players, at a decent age and no OTT transfer fees.

A transfer window of Depay ,Darmian ,Schneiderlin , Schweinsteiger a new forward (Laccazette?) and one of Ramos or Otamendi would be pure filth.

Darmian, Schneiderlin and Otamendi/Ramos seem to be the most likely to happen, on the forward front Muller or bust.

I'd take this at the start of the season, obviously that extra midfielder is needed but i wouldn't cry if only Schneiderlin came in.

I think this is pretty much our starting lineup for 2015/2016

DDG won't be here next season I'am pretty sure of that now Casillias is going to Porto

I think Schneiderlin replaces Carrick not sure we'll see them both together very often, probably for some games but I think the idea is Schneiderlin replaces Carrick over the course of this season so we are not so depended anymore. Herrera partners him and than the attacking midfielder behind the striker will be Rooney/Mata/Di Maria or Fellaini.

But that is just my two cents

----------------------Lloris-------------------------
Darmian-----Smalling--Otamendi------Shaw
-------------Herrera--Schneiderlin------------
Di Maria----------Rooney------------Depay
-----------------New striker-----------------

In case we don't find a good new striker I think Rooney will player there and behind him Fellaini or Mata will play

We need another goal scoring threat in attack.

Are there any possible top quality options? Bale would be great but that won't happen this season.

Wouldnt a team stacked with midfielders with Rooney as the frontman and Wilson as his backup be the Caf's dream?

I'd prefer Mata behind and Rooney vying with the new striker for the top spot. Otherwise that's bang on my team. Wouldn't be devastated if we stuck with Valdes over Lloris for a season. I'm not convinced by either Valdes or Lloris but at least Victor won't cost a small fortune and our sanity in dealing with Levy.

Feeling more optimistic about this summer.

All of Depay, Darmian and Schneiderlin were obvious, common sense buys for positions we needed to strengthen and it seems we're likely to land all three.

Early days but if it continues like this then I'll be pretty happy. Smart buys > glory buys, always.

GK, CB, CM and striker.

Maybe another CM too. But that's what we need.

With RVP going, we will surely need a striker - but will it be a 'number 1' striker or a back up? I hope the former.
