Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

What's actually stopping us from buying 8 players sorry?

We need to improve our team with new additions. The lack of movement seems to be making people a bit complacent with our current options: last year's team add Depay and probably minus De Gea.

In an ideal world we probably need that amount, But judging by the slow pace we are currently operating at we will be lucky to get 4 overall IMO.

I think the issue we have is we can fix our main weaknesses and look a very solid balanced outfit. The players linked can do that from Ramos, schneiderlin etc...then you look at our team vs Chelsea, not only already bedded down but with the advantage of an outstanding individual only going to get better you would think in Hazard. We would really need Di Maria to out-shine him and thats hard to imagine or at the least a cracking season from Rooney.

Sense, hopefully. Bringing in eight players would massively disrupt the team once again and we'd basically be starting from scratch in terms of players getting used to LVG's philosophy.

We also don't actually need eight new players to win the title, let alone challenge for it.

Finances to start with. The only way we are spending £200m is if we are receiving £100m+ from sales. Wages similarly.

Our success rate with transfers, and indeed the success rate across the board, simply isn't high enough for major squad changes to be anything other than extremely high risk. Paul Tomkins' work on the subject is well worth reading. Even in the high priced category, the majority of transfers are not a success.

With just a few weeks before the tour and with LVG allegedly Wanting to bed players in prior to what will be 2 tough champions league qualifying games I think we need to get moving in the market with new additions and departures. Players coming back late from the Copa America will also not help.

A Poor pre season and last minute panic buys saw us start very poorly last year if we have any aspirations to compete for the title and qualify for champions league this cannot happen again.

It looks like our top targets Bale Schweinstiger Muller and Varane are not attainable so we are now scrambling about for other options. The Ramos affair still stinks of mind games and the indecision on De Gea is not helping.
We are now looking at secondary targets and given woody's declaration that we have money to spend teams will see us coming and demand way over the odds.

Let's hope we get things done as there is no point taking players like Evans chicarito RVP Powell on tour if they are not part of our future plans.

Looking at things from the outside-

We have very inexperienced people doing our business. LvG has never participated in transfers. Our head honcho knows nothing about the football side of football. Our previous two summer transfer windows have involved quite a lot of wasted money, and not a lot of improvement to the team.

There's a massive amount of business still to do, and no doubt that, so far, things haven't gone according to plan. We couldn't have chosen to leave it this late.

But the fat lady is still in the limousine on the way to the theatre. A few big deals announced in the coming weeks and we'll all be smiling. :nervous:

1)A top of the line stud CB. (Ramos fits the bill, otamendi seems to be a caf favourate as well)

2)Winger (Depay nailed this)

3)A striker dependant on LVG's view on RVP and hernandez. i would dump both and get the best available striker to work with Rooney with wilson as backup. (Kane, Benzema, lacazette or whatever personal preferences) (It would never happen but i would grab ronaldo and go 442 )

4)2 central midfielders on the defensive/holding side. (i feel we are covered in attacking midfield with mata, di maria, januzaj, hererra and even rooney to play there. what we need is 8/10 consistant holding midfielders to take the pressure of an aging carrick and to facilitate our play) (Sweinsteger and Schneiderlin would be ABSOLUTELY Haram, whilst pogba/vidal at this stage seems to be off our radar.)

5) a right back SHOULD A TOP TALENT BECOME AVAILABLE otherwise stick with valencia and rafael/jones, save the money and reassess options on the market in january and the summer. the problem i have with reinforcing this position is i personally rate rafael, so should he stay fit all next season i dont see the need to spend big on a replacement he has the quality. Valencia has proven to be a solid 7/10 performer there which doesnt hurt. and i dont want us to drop 25m pounds on a minor upgrade like clyne would have been.

Add Coleman, Schneiderlin and Otamendi to Memphis over the next week, keep De Gea and lets get down to pre-season and prepare to cement our return to the top 4.

Feck Coleman and Otamendi. Ramos or bust.

Pretty much agree with this. Except...

I think a striker is a must - someone young but good enough to go straight into the team - if that competition makes Rooney get on top of his form, forcing this newcomer onto the bench, then fine. Lacazette fits the bill.

Also, we could do with one more top attacking talent - our own Silva / Hazard / Sanchez - all our major domestic rivals have a special attacking talent, you could even throw in Coutinho who is showing signs of reaching this sort of level - this would mean breaking the bank, probably with the help of Adidas - Bale would be my choice if we can get him.

Edit: I would also not be averse to selling Di Maria, who has not worked, in order to fund this player.

Ramos
Müller
Schneiderlin
(Lloris if DDG leaves)

I'm convinced that we are working very hard to sign these players.

Müller will be very difficult so I rate our chances at maximum 10%.

Schneiderlin only seems to be a matter of 25 or 30m. Or do we have another candidate lined up??

Ramos is a transfer saga that might last until the last day of the transfer window. Otamendi is the obvious fall back option.

So Depay might be our only new signing on the plane when we depart for the US tour.

So don't buy a CB unless the very unlikely Ramos deal happens? and Coleman has nothing do with either, we need a RB.
Ramos has obviously been marked as the prime target CB by Woodward and van Gaal, so I expect these powerful men not to be dithering unconfident Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime and focus 100% on getting the deal done until they decide it isn't plausible anymore (which means not 3 days into a transfer window). Feck Otamendi until then. When you make your mind up, you follow through.

And I said no to Coleman because he is average crap. No signings for the sake of signing someone. We are still in the process of fixing the damage Fergie created in his final transfer years and while we are still in the process of clearing the dead wood, you are basically saying "here, have this shining shit on a stick".

Yep and when you consider Otamendi's buy out fee it makes all sense in the world to focus on Ramos.

We should wrap things up before we go on tour, not dither around for a CB who is in all likelihood just using us to hike up his contract offer from Real Madrid. Otamendi is only inferior as far as his on the ball aspect goes, so it's not like we'd be losing a lot with him instead, and he actually wants to move.

Coleman is a good player, certainly as good of an option as Darmian or Fabinho, the only other 2 RB's available in this window, all of whom are comfortably better than Valencia. The fact is we don't actually have a proper RB at all, which is ludicrous for any club.

Gotta give it to you your assessment is rational but by god is it depressingly negative.

Some sort of Holding midfielder seems the priority at the moment.

A experienced CB would be nice as well. And a RB.

Other than that LVG needs to get a cohesive/structure philosophy going and drill the team to get them improving. Also fecking do something about the injuries and we should be able to challenge.

Edit - Could use a striker as well if RVP leaves but cant see him leaving right now or some top talent becoming available that we have eye on.

Selling RvP confuses things a bit more, doesn't it? Assuming Rooney will be a fixture in the first team it means we either:

A) bring in a new first choice striker, which means Rooney being pushed back deeper.
B) go with Rooney as our only proven striker with lesser players as near permanent fixtures on the bench
C) bring in a player who can provide genuine competition for the striker spot but (at the same time) isn't so high profile that they can't be left on the bench either. Which would presumably mean we see Rooney switching positions depending on circumstances.

Then you look at the players we've been linked with: Benzema, Cavani, Kane and Lacazette. A mixture of can't get, don't want and don't know.

Wonder what our plan is here?

We seem to have lost the knack of signing smart signings, not looking at the obvious players, but finding those diamonds, depay could be that. But wasting our time on guys like Ramos, not even looking into worst case scanrio of signing a keeper because DDG will leave, no question. And to even consider Valdes has our no1 is just playing with fire, at the risk of losing our top 4 position

Jesus fecking Christ "LvG has never participated in transfers" :wenger:

RB - Coleman
CB - Ottamendi
CM - Schweinsteiger
CM - Verratti/Vidal
ST/FW - Lacazette/Griezmann/Muller(if possible)

GK if DDG, leaves (Leno)

Ramos, Coleman, Schniederlin and Schweinsteiger would be great additions. I think we will get at least two of them.

Kane would be exciting too.

so despite us spending £150m or so last summer, we still according to most people have a massive need for a...

full back
centre mid (maybe 2)
centre defender
striker.

not too much to sort then!

We lost some really valuable players.

first choice back four - Rafael is out of favor and first choice CBs and LB left

New midfield - Giggs quit, carrick is too old, Fletch/Ando/Cleverley left

New wingers - Only young is usable. Valencia has been relegated to makeshift RB. Nani is about to be sold and Januzaj is too young.

New ST - VP quit, Falcao didn't work out and Chicharito's future is uncertain.

So we really only have DDG and Rooney from Fergie era that we can rely on consistently. Of course we need bodies!

RVP is still here as is hernandez and angelo henriquez. + wilson and Rooney. Plenty of 'bodies' up top.

Januzaj is certainly not too young, think it's prbably a problem that LVG has to solve, januzaj is probably too direct to play in his teams at the moment, but he was unbelievable under Moyes.

I don't really agree with Carrick being too old either as he was one of our best players last year

Reckon we'll definitely see more transfers over the next 2 weeks now.

Woody's licked his finger, held it up in the air to judge the wind - it's time.
But seriously, the transfer window will officially kick off on Monday in my eyes.

Hmm, whatever floats your boat. We are late again and that's fact.

Hmm, whatever floats your boat. We are late again and that's fact.

There's a fortnight to go until our first pre-season game, 5 weeks until the premier league and 7 weeks until the UCL qualifiers.

What exactly are we late for?

I don't think any of the players we've been linked with are coming. It's all bullshit and the fecking media know nothing. I hate this time of year and wish I could stay away from it. I suppose being in Japan I miss a lot more than you guys. It must be hell back in England. Fecking lying know-nothing media feckers.

Add Coleman, Schneiderlin and Otamendi to Memphis over the next week, keep De Gea and lets get down to pre-season and prepare to cement our return to the top 4.

Moyes has weaken you....

I expect a title challenge this year after one year of Philosophy.
