Manchester United - January transfer window 2015 (twitter blacklist applies)

£20 million for Miranda isn't worth it to be fair. Now, if we were to activate Giménez's €23.9 million buyout clause..

For all the talk about Laporte, whom I would be glad if United activates his release clause, we are still in need of a right-footed CB who can be that rock at the back. If not Garay or Hummels, who would you suggest to fit the bill?
Chris Smalling and I'm not joking.

Agree with most of that, but I'd keep Fellaini. He's performed well - getting rid of him would set a nasty precedent of booting players because they don't "look" or "feel" right. We might be trying to spend like Madrid, but let's not become them.
It's not about players not looking or feeling 'right' but more about where we need to be once we secure CL football. We should be making signings that will make us instant contenders upon our return to the CL and Fellaini, as good as he has been, doesn't take us any closer to competing against the elite clubs. I'm not saying that we should win it when we return but we should conscious if how we are performing right now despite the wins and the fact that we have lost our seeding meaning that we might have to stand toe to toe with likes of Bayern sooner than we'd have liked.
Players like Strootman (if he returns to his pre injury level) and Schneiderlin, dare I say Koke, would be ideal to have in the starting eleven instead of our current crop which, whilst good, all have limiting issues - if he is good positionally then he lacks pace(Blind), slow can not pass to save his life (Fellaini) and is okay with the ball but can be found wanting defensively (Herrera). Bottom line is we need more quality because once we reclaim our CL spot, the journey doesn't end there.

I don't think Fellaini should be a starter, in the future, but he sure as hell gives something different. Yes, he's not going to catapult you to the top, but he's still pretty handy and an interesting option.

A midfield of Strootman - Schneiderlin doesn't need Fellaini to do the heavy lifting and with Carrick, Blind and Herrera as options, I don't think he will be necessary plus he could fetch a tidy sum with his rehabilitated rep.

Nowhere near the kind of stability we need in that position.
The only question mark on Smalling's head is his fitness which he has to prove by making a run of matches. If we sign a CB it would have to be Laporte to confine Rojo to the bench and pair Smalling with Laporte.

We also need to sell some useless players in January. Fletcher needs to go (Put in a absolutely disgraceful performance yesterday yes, but overall this season he's been gash) Evans also needs to be moved on, his mistakes are going to end up costing us if he does not improve.

Yesterday showed just how awful our midfield still is, even after £100million + injection, we simply cannot control games form there or even create chances regularly, so reinforcements are needed badly. Defensively if Jones and Smalling could keep fit, I think we could be great but that's never going to happen is it?

Out- Fletcher, Evans, Anderson, Januzaj(Loan)
In- Strootman or Vidal, Godin or Hummels, Vlaar and maybe a RB (but that's probably asking for too much in January)

That might be because none Blind/Herrera/Fellaini (injured/ill) Carrick (playing defence first half) or Di Maria (not fit to start) were there.

Yeah maybe you're right, but we have had those players in the team this season and collapsed ie Swansea, Leicester.

We should sell Mata as well in January if we can, whilst his value is still kinda high. He offers us nothing and is a passenger in virtually every away game, Actually every time I see his name on the team sheet I feel like it will be 10 v 11.

We need more players who can contribute and work hard for each other.

He easily fits the bill. If only he could stay fit the fecker.

That's why I say he's nowhere near providing the stability we need, including the fitness factor. If it were for me, 2 of the 3 older CBs we have should go. If we go through with the process of signing Laporte, he would already replace Evans immediately. However, Laporte is left-footed and that means we need that same quality in then RCB area too; that's where I would see any of the names that came up fitting in.

Fellaini was on the bench, Carrick was injured and we hadn't yet signed Blind or Di Maria when we played Swansea. Leicester was more down to the defence and/or 352 formation.

Heard somewhere that Shakhtar Donetsk will have some issue to keep their foreign players. Not saying we should go for some or that those players are good enough, just saying.

Reading that Fabio Coentrao is unwanted again.

We should be in for him. Can play either side full back or wingback, and a better option in the midfield than Darren Fletcher too.

haha I remember when we fecked this transfer up last season, was absolute comedy and sad at the same time.

Yeah I'd take him for £10m

Would he really want to leave the Madrid bench to join ours? Marcelo's injured anyway, he won't be going anywhere in January.

How the hell are we still getting linked with fecking Gaitan? and Enzo Perez is not worth the money. As for Miranda, why buy the follower instead of the leader of the Atletico defense? waste of money.

Out of all the players we are being linked to for this January window the only two I'd like to actually see us buy are Fabian Schar and Kevin Mendez.

The Daily Express have linked us with these players since Thursday 18th,

Manchester United (15) - Mats Hummels, Gareth Bale, Fabio Coentrao, Victor Valdes, Sergio Busquets, Kevin Strootman, Marco Reus, Gabriel Barbosa, Malcom Silva, Diego Godin, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Enzo Perez, Nicolas Gaitan, Lucas Silva and Paul Pogba.

Nope

Oh, different Schaar then :nervous:
That's Schaars. Schar is the Basel defender who played against Liverpool the other day in the Champions League. Played against Chelsea and Spurs previously too. Looked a very good player, at that.

Not yet.Peranol seems to be an Uruguay version of Chelsea in terms of refusing/hesitating to give youth a chance despite the quality of youth system.

A bit worrying that he hasn't made the breakthrough despite that. I can't imagine the standard of football in Uruguay is all that high.

Blind, Fellaini and Di Maria all didn't play vs Swansea.

We just need a full strength fit squad. Our mediocre performances are all down to the shit 3-5-2 and the constant playing staff being shuffled around, it's helping no one.

He played some wonderful long passes against Liverpool. Looked quick and comfortable on the ball as well.

I think it's more likely that we'll sign a left-footed CB to compete with Rojo, have Smalling and Jones fight on the right and Evans and one of McNair or Blackett (other on loan) as depth.

Am I the only one who thinks we won't sign anyone in January, I just can't see it, and don't think we really need it.

Reality is we are third and that would be the realistic target for LvG, we have done this with so many players injured, & we would be cursed if we have the same amount of injuries from now until May, plus alot players who come back will only improve as they go along (Shaw, Jones, Falcao the main ones), added to that we have limited games to play.

Happy with some cash for Cleverley, Anderson finally gone, and Janujaz loaned to get some proper games time.
