Manchester United - January transfer window 2015 (twitter blacklist applies)

Do we have any chance of signing someone like Shaqiri this winter ?

According to BILD...he can leave Bayern Munich for 20m €....apparently Guardiola thinks he isn't smart enough and hasn't improved since his move from Basel

We should all sacrifice a chicken and make this transfer happen.

Ed Woodward:

"We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes," said Woodward, speaking on the day United posted a 9.9% fall in revenue to £88.7m for the three months to the end of September, which reflected "absence from the Champions League".

"However, we have targets we are looking at for next summer.

"Should any of them become available in January, which is obviously rare, we will consider acting. But it is a low probability."

I'd say Ed's comments rule out Strootman and Vlaar, but we could still move on Schar who'll only have 6 months on his contract at Basel.

Id take vlar and De jong on short term deals in a heart beat. at the very least we need the depth let alone the fact i reckon they would start.

I still reckon Granit Xhaka is the one though. i think he's going to be special.

^^^ He just said we aren't interested in short term fixes, those 2 practically have "short term fix" tattooed on their arse.

I'm assuming Ed's done a deal with a witch doctor to make sure our supremely injury prone defenders don't pick up another bunch of them in the second half of the season?

Id still take em though, to help garuntee 4th.

I don't think De Jong would guarantee us anything. I think we are looking for younger players for the long term, we aren't going to panic buy and then be stuck with 2 average players taking up wages and squad space.

Ed can't be serious, We need either Hummels or Godin in (preferably both) in the winter window. Unless of course we are absolutely confidant of securing a top3/4 finish then he's talking rubbish and will deffo make moves in the window.

The BT money in the CL kicks in next season, given how financial fair play is going, it would give us a massive financial monopoly over the likes of Chelsea/City/L'pool/Spurs/Everton/Arsenal, more so than we already have.

We can obviously survive without the CL for another season due to our new kit deals, but we can seriously put a lot of teams to bed if we get into the CL for next season.

I don't see how Strootman is ruled out, he is not a short term fix, if he is available we will probably try to sign him.

If you have any hope of us getting either of those players in january you're deluded. The clubs aren't likely to ship off one of their most important players mid-season. Neither would it make any sense from the players' point of view to move here in january when they've got the champions league to play for, and in Godins case also the league.

The one signing that'd genuinely thrill me is the return of Vidic. I miss that guy.

I wrote about this rumour earlier during the week and some over active mod deleted it.

He hasn't been great for Inter so far but let's not forget what he brings in leadership and bravery at the back.

When I said ruled Strootman out I was thinking about it from the line about us having targets for summer that would unlikely be available in January.

we won't be buying anyone.....

Unless they're available.

usual pointless quotes.

Good that we won't do anything in January, the right players are so rarely available.

We don't even need new players for what we are trying to do this season (top 4), we just need less injuries., enough quality is already there.

If the likes of Strootman aren't available in January I'm hoping we'll be back in for Vidal come next summer. By then hopefully his fitness will be 100% and he'll have refound his form.

If there was a quality centre-half available we'd have signed him in the summer. There's no point spending unless it's a definite improvement on our current options.
I more or less agree, but I would say that we need to sign someone who can hopefully stay healthy, something that Jones, Smalling and Evans haven't been able to do. Of course, it's next to impossible to predict who that might be.

I haven't seen him play myself, but my Italian student (a Juve fan for what it's worth,) said that Vidic hasn't played well in Italy. He also wasn't that high on Evra, and said he'd be happy with a Mata for Vidal swap!

I'm happy with making the squad gel. We can do proper business again in the summer.

There's no point in signing someone of similar or lower ability for half a season. We will probably be back in for a CB in the summer anyway. What we won't find is a CB of Smalling or Jones' potential on the cheap.

Our squad was good enough at the start of the year to gel and play well, its just being haunted by injuries is making us think we have to sign players. We could survive until the summer but the defensive injuries are a massive concern.

Right now are any of our injured players definitely out for the season?

We do have to consider the 25 man squad rule in regards to signing any new players in January. We submit a list at the end of January plus we have our players who fall into the under 21 year old category. We don't get to keep pulling players off the list and adding new ones as players get hurt or regain their health.

Just looked it up here is our list from September of those over 21.

Manchester United
25 squad players

Petrucci is gone so that opens up one spot. Vermijl is out on loan for the season, so that is another spot open. Lingard, when will he be back from injury?

So I guess we have more room than I thought.

No he's not.That was Varela.

The long term fix type players like Hummels won't be available in January. So it looks like no business.

I wouldn't have minded a short term fix or two given our injury problems to be honest.

Schär wouldn't be a short-term fix either and I reckon he's available in January.

I won't be devastated if we didn't sign anyone in Jan, I'm confident of fourth even with the squad as it is at the moment. Our rivals for fourth (Spurs and Liverpool) are looking far worse than us.
