Manchester United 3:1 Crystal Palace (Tue 19th July, 11:10 UK time)

You can see why EtH wants Frenkie, or a player of a similar profile - so many times when McFred/Malacia/Maguire have the ball from deep you can see Rashford/Sancho/Dalot in wide open space asking for the ball, but none of them have the ability to make the pass.

Martial has been good, which he is when hes in the goals. And not when he isnt

That Ebiowei (sp?) 18 year old looks like one we'll be back in for in a couple of years. Great ball control, silky skills

I think that was a pretty average performance so far. We're playing against Palace reserves and the press / passing didn't look comfortable at all.

Some bright spots (Martial, Maguire, Malacia, Dalot) but a sea of average.

He's top 5 in the league in progressive passes in the final third
Does that just mean forward passes? Would like to see a lot more assists from a starting FB at Utd. Also averaged 0.6 crosses a game last season - not enough.

I honestly think that even with just Eriksen and Martinez, if this team continue this type of play and identity in to the season, we do have a good chance of top four and a go at a cup. Obviously we need to upgrade in midfield and a competition for Striker with Martial (I am assuming Ronaldo goes) but I am quite optimistic that Ten Hag is not going to let levels drop, especially the way he is shouting his head off on the sidelines

Luke Shaw will need to activate his Super Saiyan mode once again if he wants to keep his place. Malacia's making runs and passes we've rarely seen our LB make.

Hopefully motivates Shaw so we can have 2 top class left backs and probably won't have to see Telles again. Still, Shaw is very injury prone

That's like their 6th tactical foul, not sure how they can even slightly moan about it.

Interesting to note that ETH prefers Maguire to be on the right side of central defence. Makes me think Maguire as RCB and Martinez as the LCB are his first choice with Varane for Maguire and Lindelof for Martinez as the backups.

It is D team of CP, and only 1-0. We are not really that good.
bite RT, biteee!

We look confident in possession, even at that back - Maguire especially, our passing in and around the box is quicker, we're pressing harder as a team and for sustained periods, and perhaps most important of all, we look like an infinitely better football team than Palace, whereas last season we'd struggle to keep up with them.

Hope you are sufficiently bitten :)

Another good 45 without being outstanding. We looked so much better coached than we have in a long time.

This Palace team are absolute twats acting like this is a fecking cup final.

Good half. Some nice build-up play & a lovely goal.

Palace surrounding the ref in a pre-season game

2nd half, let's go with the Zidane show

Watching us has already become much less of a chore and actually something to enjoy.

Decent half of football. Good to see us getting forward in numbers. Though you can tell at times some of the players are not 100% sure on what they are doing at points.

I really want to see a McT -> Zidane switch. I think we'll improve a lot if we do that.

Really impressed with that first half.

Lots of energy, nice passing and good pressing, but at the right times and not just like headless chickens.
