Manchester United 0:1 Atletico Madrid (Sat 30th July, 12:45 UK time)

Have they been that good though?

No they haven't. They were doing their normal shithousery all game and in a real match you'd hope the ref would have dished out a lot more cards.

We were the better team against their low block but were also a bit wasteful. They hit us on the break a few times, and that led to the goal, which was the result of a good finish but also a moment of slack defending.

Couldn't care less about the result.

We generally looked decent and combative. But the need to add more quality, particularly in attack, was apparent.

Jesus they arent remotely comparable. Fred just did a sissor kick stamp ffs
It's obvious that Fred pulled his leg back as it landed on Morata and didn't put any pressure down on him. I know they're dissimilar but the ref would've considered it an accident had it been the other way around.

That being said, if we're disregarding that the first yellow was a joke, the amount of fouls Fred made since getting on a yellow should've seen him sent off for the foul regardless of the stamp.

Atleast we won’t be starting the campaign with McFred midfield partnership. See you in September Fred.
Eh? Fred was one of the better players today, he won’t be banned if that’s what you’re insinuating

I‘ve watched ours and Arsenals game on 2 screens next to each other. The difference in pace and creativity is enormous, so much ahead of us.
No idea where Arsenal are playing, but they said it was quite hot where our game was being played.

Fred leaves the runner for the one Dalot played all onside...but its ok its fred. Makes a few passes he's expected to make and he's playing well because he's Fred. Ok he might be likeable to many but Come on anyone can see he's seriously weak ffs. Sick of him

Classic Atletico.

Defend, foul, bury a chance, go home
Sometimes in a friendly a result like this is good for the club, it gives perspective we need 2 or 3 new signings before the window closed especially in the attacking area, I think we need game changers and if this doesn’t make united fans realise Ronaldo for all his antics will be essential if we are to mount a top 4 challenge.

Elanga doesn't look good enough to provide the right kind of support to the first eleven. Not being able to fully rely on Rashford and Martial to provide the goals, a forward player is much needed.

Much more even second half, though again we didn't put our chances away. In the end a dirty and tough game for us, which will hopefully help the team get fully prepared for the season proper.

Got to see some promise from Erikson as well. Just need Maguire to actually learn how to header an attacking corner and we could be see loads of goals from corners.

Yeah that's it. Hopefully he gets plenty of chances this season.
Yeah I liked what I saw there. Small data set but definitely can be of some use.
Wasn't Scholes sent off in the same game? If I remember correctly they were suspended for the first game of the season.
They both got a couple of games ban, but both were allowed to play the opening game. Rooney got a brace against Fulham (Ronaldo the other two if memory serves)

I don't think they can do that for a friendly game.

Or can they?

Back in the day they made Rooney and Scholes miss 3 Premier league matches at the start of the season for red cards they got in pre season friendlies. 12 months earlier, Gerrard and Carragher were not suspended for exactly the same thing.

FFS folks, we had the better chances and they nicked a goal despite spending the majority of the match fouling our players if we dared to take the ball of of them.

And if anyone says "you're reading too much into the positives because they weren't full strength and this is a friendly" then I'll say it right back at you whilst you drone on with all of the negative doom mongering. Miserable bumfaces, the lot o ya. We go again. feck City etc.

Pre-season results trend:
4-0 (+4), 4-1 (+3), 3-1 (+2), 2-2 (0), 0-1 (-1), ...

Hide behind the couch tomorrow? :nervous:

Relax folks

Well this was a classic AM performance is ever there was one. This is why they are one of the most consistent top teams in Europe.

Fred leaves the runner for the one Dalot played all onside...but its ok its fred. Makes a few passes he's expected to make and he's playing well because he's Fred. Ok he might be likeable to many but Come on anyone can see he's seriously weak ffs. Sick of him
Our best player in the first half but ok.

We played very well Today
Just a bit worried about the depth of the Squad
We need at least 3 more players to turn us into a very good squad
Add Dejong,Anthony and Besko to the squad and we will be flying

The performance is ok, we play some decent stuff. We're just lacking enough quality players. More signings are crucial

We played okay, probably not as bad as some are making out but not as good as some others are either. It’s early days with a new manager, I hope we can add some genuine quality before the window shuts but it seems there’s not many obvious options for players we should sign.

It’s not an awful performance by any stretch
If you can't beat a team lagging behind in preseason by 2 weeks, it is awful. Think about what it will be like against any solid opponent among our first 10 matches, fully prepared.

In any case, we have not been up to the job in 2 consecutive preseason games. It is really concerning.

0-1
Joao Felix

I love Joao,
really hope he gets to play together with Correa and Lemar in many games, I have some favorites in other places but those three will get us ticking the most :) and perhaps get a few smiles from neutrals every once in a while

I'm kinda glad we played vs Atleti. They pretty much punished United players for everything wrong they've done, including lack of finishing defending team off.

Couldn't care less about the result.

We generally looked decent and combative. But the need to add more quality, particularly in attack, was apparent.

That diagonal run made by Grizzzeman through the middle getting blocked by Maguire is something our attackers lack. None of Rashford, Martial or Elanga seem capable of making those kind of runs.
