Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

  • Unless you've been doing United aways on the sly you haven't a clue have you? The reason they've got such a great reputation is precisely for the reasons I've given you.
  • Of course my opinions are only based on second hand info from Red relatives, workmates and drinking buddies but you're the sole source required, aren't you?
  • Full Time Devils is pretty much despised by our core travelling fanbase and as such is unrepresentative at best.
  • So their interviewees aren't United supporters who are at the ground at the time?
  • So as suggested by myself you've made this up. Your opinion that successful teams attract more middle class than working class fans is frankly bizarre but you use this baseless assertion to prop up this oft repeated myth that City are more working class in some way. They're not and never have been and I find it frankly odd that even now, with City about as less about the working man as a football club can be, that some City fans still feel the need to cling on to this bogus identity. A few years back as some sort of stick to beat a far more successful United with but now?
  • If City had been more successful over the years then it stands to reason that they would have more fans from non-urban areas where disposable cash is more plentiful. But they weren't so they don't and United, Arsenal, Liverpool do. City do have plenty of support in the Cheshire stockbroker belt but this is small beer compared with the clubs mentioned above. It will take years of achievement before that changes markedly.
  • Doing aways has always been a sign of commitment partly due to the time and financial outlay. As such it's a young man's game mostly (which you'd know if you did them?) but some lads do well enough to manage it for many a year. I used to hop on a plane before family life took priority yes and the spontaneous aways were often the best ta. Not any more.
  • Ha Ha! You're guessing that I don't do always. You're right, I don't these days but as you rightly say it's a young mans game. United, Liverpool, Oldham, Huddersfield, Leeds, Notts Co, Forest, Sheffield Wed, Derby, Leicester, Wolves, West Brom, Villa, Shrewsbury, Arsenal and Wembley several times are the only always I've done so shame on me.
  • You post as fact unsubstantiated and entirely subjective opinion re United matters. I'll continue to take you up on that
  • This being a forum, not a Court of Law, is full of that from fans of many different teams. I suppose that if a Red does it in respect to an opponent then ho-hum, it's a United Forum, if they don't like being misrepresented then they can do one. Would you be happier if I suffixed my views with IMO or similar to indicate that I cannot prove my opinion as absolute fact?

I'll respond to this in the bluemoon meltdown thread as at this stage it would seem more appropriate

Glad I can finally enjoy the pre-match press conferences again, after avoiding them for the last few years. Very open and honest about some big issues in the squad at the moment. He's made some big calls that only a few managers with a strong reputation could come in and get away with, but I think he's making the right calls.

Basically; Joe can leave or stay and improve with his feet, Yaya won't play until his intensity off the ball improves (so basically he's probably out), Stones has had two good games but he doesn't want to say any more about his quality because he's young and has to focus on improving, we can't blame the conditions at Stoke, and we've spent all our time in training focuses on the build-up from goalkeeper to final third, and transitioning as a team.

Nothing groundbreaking but refreshing on Pellegrini so I can actually tune in again!

Agreed, Pellegrini was likeable but deary me he was dull in interviews. I actually think Yaya's going to stay and will get to play. Pep above all values players who can keep the ball and there aren't many better than Toure at that. Toure will shape up and start to work hard enough to satisfy Pep and he'll recognise he can be a useful asset. Wouldn't expect much involvement in the big games though, and it's only really because he hasn't found a new club that he'll get this chance.

Pep's press conferences are always a good listen but it also requires good questions, he won't be drawn into stupid inquiries

Nasri transfer listed? Two down

Happy to see that we've got ourselves a new opposition supporter in here in @FCBarca . Perhaps a tagline to show his new allegiance would be suitable?

Last season he couldnt get a sniff, people calling him clueless LB and since season started Kolarov played CB and seems he is Pep`s 1st choice LB...Clichy must scratching his head

Kolarov is better than Clichy IMO, and would work better in the left back-midfielder weird hybrid role.

Saying that, he isn't top class so a bit strange how City haven't look to upgrade that position. Same with Zabaleta/Sagna on the other side of the defense.

Weird how some former players basically say he is a c*nt.

Ribery has changed his tune on him only cause he played very little, when he was in the team Pep was a tactical master etc.. when he couldn't get a game and Pep left "he talked too much and was tactically poor". Angry player dismissing former manager who dropped him is hardly anything new. Zlatan and him never saw eye to eye, though Zlatan still admits he's a great coach. Alot of players thought Fergie a cnut but knew he was a great football manager, alot of supporters too.

Everyone knows Kolarov's weaknesses and Clichy's too. Quite simply Kola is far better on the ball and far, far worse defensively. Kola's work rate was poor under Pelligrini but he's obviously started to put the work in to improve his workrate unlike Nasri, Toure etc... under Pep or he would be looking for a new club. I think Kola is more suited to a team keeping the ball than Clichy and despite Clichy being a far superior traditional left back, under the new system Kola is a far better option.

Kolarov and Zab the starting full-backs today. Navas also starting in place of Nolito.

I liked how he's come and completely left out Yaya Toure, he's been a liability for them for the past 2 seasons but the Pellegrini never had the balls to drop him.

Ribery was pretty much always first choice whenever he was fit, which sadly wasn't all that much in the last 3 years. He started most games after he returned from his injury in the second half of last season.

Ah cool I thought he was just left out for Costa and Coman. Still he did have a very sharp change of opinion so I guess I was just adding 2+2 and getting 5.

Another poorish 45 minutes for us today, 2-0 up but both were more Stoke being terrible than us being great, also Stoke denied a stonewall penalty. Back to newbies I go.

Ribery is a petulant child. Not sure what he said about Pep, but his opinion is meaningless anyway.

I've seen a few people call the fullbacks inverted but inverted means that the player is playing on the side of the pitch opposite to his best foot - Robben and Ribery are inverted wingers. I don't like false fullbacks either. False nine or false winger sounds okay but false fullbacks just sounds bad. It's not best descriptive either. Wasn't Maicon described as a false fullback? Yet his role was a lot different to City's fullbacks. The term I propose is inside fullback. What do y'all nerds think?

"If Sterling adds more goals, he will be Thierry Henry-esque" thats a new fave of mine from Bluemoon.

Sorry to do this (I dont like defending city, but not a fan of lies either)

City were ranked 8th last year in terms of attendance (we were third)
http://talksport.com/football/bigge...ball-season-top-25-revealed-160329190066?p=17

As far as fanbase goes, for the matchgoing fans of city, the majority were probably fans before the Arab money.
The average attendances since they moved to their stadium ranged from 39,997 to 46,834 before the arab money arrived. The average last year was 54,046. Thats only an increase of 35% even if you use their lowest average attendance.

The irony....

agree

Pep is really fabulous at doing press conferences. Absolutely fantastic.

Yep, I tune in for all of them - they are always educational. Curious to see how reporters evolve themselves in terms of questions

What a great manager Pep is.

Not only does he evolve football, but he also evolves reporters.

He can do it all. Too bad reporters are too thick sometimes to see they're learning about football while listening to him.

I won't say educational. But different cause he's always wiling to talk tactics. However, our journos aren't interested in that. They are only interested in how Joe hart feels, what Mourinho said, how brillian English football is etc. And you can see he's already getting tired.

I was sarcastic.

Very true, noticed the same thing - last two pressys started with repeated Hart inquiries, they'll figure it out eventually (hence evolve). I thought it was interesting that he's employed a translator to provide english versions of the many Spanish/Catalan questions he gets

I was too.
But it is always good to hear more about tactics. Problem is journalism nowadays is all about who slept with someone or who showed some tits. Or in football who loves who or some cliche qustions.

I doubt it. English journalists are always looking for a story. And with the derby coming up, it's going to get worse.
Always wonderd why United don't allow foreign jounos for their domestic PCs.

His presser was about 33 minutes last Friday, far more than he has to do so can't hate it that much (yet).
We suffered 3 years of Pellegrini's bore fest evasions before Pep. This is like pure gold to us.

Think he's an idiot for having a go at Aguero
Despite his prolific start to the season, he's also missed a lot more (not just the pens). His running could be more purposeful also so there is room for improvement.
It's the old "some need a kick up the ass and some an arm round the shoulder" thing.

Wasn't LVG criticised for stuff like this, making the players seem like they were kids and he was the headmaster?
