Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

CbJ would be a genuine improvement on Clichy.

Clichy is not that bad, tho I agree they could improve on him. I think they are struggling to buy a defender tbh.

They are actually. They need a left back and a center back. Tbf I think they also need a right back since they've a pretty aging squad but that could wait.

I believe Angelino and Maffeo will both get more game time this season. I have my reservations on both, particularly Angelino. However they are decent cover for Clichy and Sagna. Kolarov needs to go but I'm hoping Zab can overcome his injury problems to still be decent.

LB and RB are definitely our weaker positions. Maybe Pep will play 3 at the back?

Ballsy to do that in the Prem.. can't remember where I heard this but was it Fernando/Fernandinho that Pep was considering at CB?

Their attack looks great on paper. I still think they're a central midfielder and a pair of proper full backs light, however.

I think their CB'd are a bigger problem than fullbacks. Yea they need 1 more central mid, and if they do they look strong.

I said it last year and I will say it again, Man City should have pulled out all the stops to sign Shaw. They can't get Alaba, so that left full back position is kind of weak, although Pep may play Kolarov there as he doesn't stop running for a whole match.

Has anyone followed their preseason?
Any idea how they will line up?

Pep doesn't have one line-up. It'll change from week to week and opponent to opponent. That's at least what happened at Bayern; though they had way more depth (and injuries...)

I watched the documentary on him on sky sports on Monday. The guy is a visionary and a genius. What I love about him is his appetite to learn and keep improving himself, he's a real student of the game. He's been influenced so much by many great tacticians like cruyff and lillo and he's managed to modernise their tactics and change the game. We're very lucky to have him.

So is getting guardiola not good enough to get them some fans?

Your lot'll soon turn him into a nare-do-well!

Definitely. I mean the 1% that were missing from the stadium on Saturday will have really shocked Pep.

Mansour is effectively paying out of his own pocket to get fans in. The fact that you can't sell out belies the big club perception you are trying to put out there. Demand should have vastly outstripped supply.

The constant excuses of why you fail to sell out are also becoming tiresome. Traffic problems, holiday season, kick off at the wrong time, alien invasion imminent.

Not filling your stadium
1) as one of the biggest and recently most successful clubs in the country
2) on the first matchday of the season
3) on the debut of the coach who many think is the best thing since sliced bread

is quite shocking, no matter the margin.

Don't forget the shit atmosphere being down to the shit mic's...

I have to be honest - i predict Pep won't last a year at City.
We saw first hand last season that silly, slow tactics combined with a coach that tries to be to clever, doesn't work over here. Never has and never likely to. He seems to have a very high opinion of himself and his reputation in the media has been forged by inheriting 2 of the greatest squads ever assembled. The fact he has won trophies is completely irrelevant - hell even Brendan Rogers will have trophies falling out of his arse if he stays in a league with no competition at all.

I have not been impressed with City at all during pre-season and luckily for them, they faced a very negative Moyes' team on Saturday, otherwise they would have been beat.

The fullback / CM double act thing smacks of a man who has bought into his own hype.

His face after Defoe equalised was a picture ''How dare you, your a relegation candidate, how dare you try to get something from this game''

It's really only an English obsession this. Funnily enough I literally just saw this article on Talk Sport.

http://talksport.com/football/top-2...ge-attendance-across-season-160816206541?p=15

Now none of this matters to me. I reckon City are in the top 10 average attendances across Europe, or there abouts. Our fanbase is good, loyal, but we aren't and never will be a United, Madrid etc. United have fans in cities all over the UK and most parts of the world. City really don't. We were successful in the 60s and then were very unsuccessful in the 90s. I have no problem saying that simply because I find it absurd that fans, normally of bigger clubs, use it as a way to 'get one' over on rivals. It's like wow, you're a fan of a club that has loads of fans and that means... Anyway I've been a season ticket holder since I was 16 and I'm sure some of you are match goers too but I would bet my house there's a good majority on here who aren't so I find it all quite amusing TBH. Equally I realise there's a lot less for you to take the micky about City these days.

You are not. Rank 15. Behind teams like Mönchengladbach.

And do you want to know my problem with City fans? You have ALL been season ticket holders since the age of 16.
Nothing against you, you might as well are, but it is ridicoulus.
You just can't admit (and bluemoon is the worst place to witness this) that most of your fanbase only came along because you got a big check by some middle eastern dictator.

This I don't understand. Either we have no fans or our fans are glory hunters. You can't have it both ways.

He said nothing about the number of City Fans so there's no need to get out the old strawman.

It's hard to admit to something that's bullshit. It's funny how City get mocked for having no fans yet apparently we received some massive influx of supporters courtesy of Sheikh Mansour purchasing the club. In the 03-04 season we came 16th yet our average attendance was over 46,000, the third highest in the league.

Where have I said that there are no City fans? Of course they are. You are a rather succesfull club. But there's this constructed argument you are the "true" Manchester club and you have a more "dedicated" fanbase which is just bullshit. And don't act like a lot of you people don't try to argue like that.
And sorry, but 46.000 average isn't an outstanding number really. Even now, you are hardly above teams like Cologne or Hannover.

Feel like the devil's advocate now, but it's also a bit unfair to compare Bundesliga and EPL-Attendances. Cologne e.g. is the only "big" team in a city of millions so they don't have to fight for fans in their home base. The tickets being so much cheaper over here also plays into it a fair bit. I can't imagine Cologne filling their stadium if they had City prices, even though they probably have way more dyed in the wool fans than them.

Our average attendance last season was 54k. 46k was the season before when we were expanding the stadium. Figures are here.

Ha, you've opened a can of worms for yourself here. All true though.

What I cannot believe was how shite the atmosphere was on Saturday.
You have been waiting for a manager for two years ffs. I expected City fans to have blown the roof off.

Your strange obsession with attendances to the stadium is an even bigger laugh to be honest.
It going up by 10k over just one here doesn't really help to shut up the ones calling you liars either.
Btw, Cologne is at 48k.
But I don't really care.
I just hope you don't ever get near winning a major trophy and I will be satisfied.

Ha, you've opened a can of worms for yourself here. All true though.

I still uphold my view that you should be able to completely pack your stadium (and then some) for a game like this and that failing to do so is a bit embarrassing. :nervous:

There'll always be lots to laugh at city and their fans. Over-hyped, over-shadowed and over here on a United forum explaining their self imposed grandeur to us.
We only care enough to laugh at your explanations.

Yesterday i thought you were banned, good to see you back!

Yeah, i do think the jokes with the attendances are getting boring. I read 54.362 people were in the stadium against Sunderland. Some clubs have more, but the majority less. Doing alright, i guess!

And they make sure you are aware of it to. You cant have a football conversation with a city fan without them telling you that they had a season ticket whilst in division 2 etc.

Manchester City FC.... The only club who's season ticket sales dwarf their stadium capacity.

It was packed, there were 53.5k out of 55k or whatever. It's a bit silly this scrutiny but I guess that's modern football for you.

i.e. it wasn't packed, it was almost packed.
Lets stop it here, this will never be productive and can only lead to unnecessary bad blood.
