Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

Ah the good old Chelsea myth, how many penalties is it today? 5.2 million?

Barcelona got more decisions against them over two legs than Chelsea.
Where are you from, purely out of interest.

Yes i counted three absolute stonewalls in the 2nd leg.

FT but still coaching

The biggest difference between him and Mourinho is that, Mourinho wants his team to cover space when the lose the ball while Guardiola wants his team to push forward. Prefer Pep's style. Let's see how he adapts it to he EPL.

he got cut by chelsea, didnt he?
He did - an absolutely shocking decision by Mourinho to sell him for £18m.

You don't see De Bruyne as a starter in the current Chelsea team?

Which other sides doesn't he get into in the PL, out of interest?

Pep. I just dont trust him in the sense its all genuine. Some of the stuff he does is for the cameras. Just like Klopp.

Why would he get accolades for teaching his players, just because there's a camera? It's what he's paid to do.

He's just better at it than most - you can't 'act' good player development, surely?

Edit: Unless you're not referring to the picture above, in which case, got a few examples?

God forbid saying anything negative about Pep. All of our resident City caftards jump on you instantly. :D Yeah, picture above. Dont have examples right now, just the way he acts. I mean he could say them what he liked or didnt like in the dressing room.

Been here 2 years longer than you, you're in my house here.

I'm not convinced that picture wasn't before the penalty shootout to be fair.

A lot better, Dortmund are barely touching the ball this 2nd half. If they had their best attackers on they prolly would of scored a few. At first look I do not see any PL team being better than them, but its early days. Won't do much in CL though.

Early days.

We looked great in the friendlies under LVG

Hey I'm not defending mourinho because his work with youth could definitely improve, but it happens. SAF let Pogba now, now it seems we're spending £100m to get him back, and we all know SAF had a good record with youth.

Granted I think KdB was a bit further in his development at that stage, but our midfield need was much worse than Chelsea's need for a playmaker iirc.

I wasn't attacking Mourinho's work with youth talent by the way.

This has only come about because I said De Bruyne would get into any team in the league.

The counter argument to that was "he got cut by Chelsea".

As if Pep himself doesn't realise he doesn't have the same quality to his service as he had at Barca. He'll figure out something to make City better just like Mourinho will make Utd better.

Funny how you don't like the Man City manager OR the Liverpool manager.

Really interesting isn't it?
There are some United fans who like both of them even though they're rivals' coaches but I wasnt a fan even during their times at Barca and Dortmund. Its not that I didnt like them, I just wasnt drooling over them like many.
So when they became Liverpool and City managers it was easy not to like them.

Fair enough. But I can't understand anyone who likes football yet wasn't a fan of Pep's Barca side, the best team I've seen in my lifetime, or a very exciting Klopp side from his time at Dortmund. Strange.

It's not like Pep twatted us twice in a CL final, no reason for any of our fans to hold a grudge

He offered him a new contract but he refused to sign and left on a free..

Well we're not all alike. Some people liked Barcelona's football some didn't. I liked Barca football at a time but wasn't crazy about Pep. Same with Klopp, Dortmund side played some good stuff but I was never fan of Klopp, especially since everybody was crazy about him whatever he did. He's even more dramatic now than then, he knows when he's on the screen and he's milking it. Not to mention his run to the dressing rum in the EL final. That was cringeworthy as hell.

He also said he knew he would leave if they didnt play him and he still decided to not play him

Whatever happened, it's clearly a very different situation from disposing of a player because you don't think he's good enough.

This has been done to death and people still keep regurgitating the same thing!

I asked on Pereira's thread, which other managers have throw in a rookie CM with virtually no experience outside the academy level while going for the title?

The only name came up so far is Pep (Busquets). But even then, the situations were completely different.

Busquets made his debut at the start of 2008/09 season when he's 20 and already played 32 times for Barca B.

The Blackburn game people keep mentioning was in the middle of 2011/12 season (Dec 31st, crucial festive period game) when Pogba was only 18 and been only promoted to U21. [I searched but couldn't find how many games Pogba played for our U21 team.]

Pedro? Though he'd be more on the Busquets end of the scale than Pogba.

Tried to find the correct thread to post this, couldn’t think of a better one. United usually has the manager in youth contract signing photos, or at least a reserves coach or academy boss. Why does City have the tea ladies posing, surprised they didn’t at least have Oasis with their instruments.

Isn't it the player's family?

Bit puzzling that they haven't bought a center back and a left back so far. Clichy and Kolarov are really dreadful options.

Actually it's interesting that while Mourinho is called a cheque book manager and Guardiola is called as someone who looks for solution inside the team, they'll probably spend a similar amount of money this summer with us having more academy graduates in our squad than City.
