Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

Fair enough, but it wasn't just you.

"Bitterness" seems to be the go to no brain insult thrown whenever people criticise him. It's incredible that a criticism of a manager can seemingly anger so many people so much
Leave Saint Pep alone!!! :D:D:D:D

I don't know his reasoning for it i'm not a mind reader but I wouldn't be so harsh to get the pitch forks out before listening to his explanation

It's strange no doubt about it I can't disagree with that

I would think if he thought a youth player was going to benefit the team he would have him on the bench so in my opinion I think he's trying to prove a point to someone or just doesn't think any of the youth players available to him are good enough to play in his team

Which is ridiculous given the money they have spent on their academy

Yeah nothing 100 million can't fix anyway

If they need a player they can just spend without thinking twice

Although it has been going on for years, not many youth players do tend to come through the big teams anymore

Rashford is one of the exceptions

Remember when a couple of years ago people including lots of ex pros kept going on about how city are completely overtaking us in youth set up.....

Lets say it when it deserves saying: Pep made a mistake by taking Sterling off for this Diaz fella. It was a move made in affect based on Sterling's misses, and their attack turned to sh*t afterwards

Lingard?

It’s a bit silly saying no one breaks through anymore when we have three players from our youth team in the squad every week.

Lingard, Mctomminay?

What principle is he clinging to by not naming a 7th sub from the academy?

Well seeing as they were playing at 9 oclock last night it would be alot to ask them to go again today.

Still I tend to agree with Gary Neville, they could have travelled and not played.

They’re proving it the same way they prove that Manchester is blue... with empty seats.

Interesting as Diaz, Foden, Adarabioyo, Duhaney, Dele-Bashiru, Nmecha and Grimshaw have all played for the first team this season. Lets not let our red tinted glasses get in the way of facts.

Poor again today I thought, difference today was Burnley scored and city missed a sitter.

City have been the best team this season without question but I feel the gap is flattering in some ways and there no way, in my opinion, they'll have a season again where so many small margins work out, and the only way is down.

Guardiolas saving grace for some of his comments and behaviour this season has been their success to date, but I feel he's digging his own grave needlessly turning some people against him. He's shown before he's a bit mentally weak and when city go through a spell of trouble (which every club does) he will struggle again. Sure it's just my opinion, but I think when it ends at city for guardiola it will be a ball of flames.

Really good match with Burnley. Both teams doing what they are best at. Sterling was playing really well. Should have stayed on despite the miss. Draw is a fair result.

Padr you really need to take a day off buddy, you don't have to defend City over every little thing on here.
Today is a black mark against Pep, he's not perfect

Dropped points in their last three away games. I wonder if they're running out of steam a bit? Obviously not a concern for the league, but possibly the champions league.

Don’t let your blue ones get in the way of a little joke

Let's hope so. Them winning the League and CL would be unbearable!

Of course its a black mark, I even said I agree with Neville that a player could have travelled even if he didn't play. It was also a poorish performance despite doing enough to win the game.

To be fair, Pep isnt the only one at City to feck the youth setup (allegedy).

Agreed, I think I'd have to stop using the Caf if that happened - the Pep love in would be unimaginable.

City still have a lot of problems with finishing their chances. Here on the Caf a lot of United fans are not happy with the attacking play of their team but funny enough City fans should be equally not happy.

I'm gutted for them.

They had this problem last season as well and from what I have read (I missed the 2nd half) and what I saw of the first half, they were pretty wasteful in front of goal. A goalscorer, or lack of a clinical one will ultimately determine how many trophies they win this season

The BBC said their reserves played the day before, so that would probably be a factor.

Pep would have known before they played last night. He either knew about the injury problems and let the would be replacement play anyway or he knew there was a big chance he couldn't fill out his bench and let them play anyway.
Either way it's not a realistic excuse.

Why would he need an excuse? There's no real urgent need for a 7th sub when you'll only play 3 at most. This is really, utterly, a non-event. Best to let the players who played on Friday either rest or do recovery work.

What is with "United fans" trying to shut down (valid) criticism of a rival's coach?
I'm partisan but feck you, them and the Catalan dido.

You are spot on, and it's utterly bizarre. Why is it in this thread that every time you say anything heretical about the saint of football you are accused of being bitter or told to shut up because City are winning the league.

It's gotten to a point where Man City fans are more critical of their own team than many posters on here.

I don't understand why people are losing their minds over a six man bench - What's the difference in having an extra player there when they aren't going to play? I don't like Pep but this just seems to be a poor excuse to have a go at him.

What great experience it would be for a young player to sit on the bench and watch the full 90 minutes with no chance of playing in the match...

I don't see anyone losing their minds over it.
Dramatic? Much?
As for the last paragraph, that is pretty much the first introduction for every young player.

@VBI
Its an excuse, so is saying this..

You see how far you reached into your ass for that one? Unless Pep suffered a mountain of injuries late last night / this morning then he knew he was going with a 6 man bench before the game last night.
7 minutes allotated to a youth player this season so this isn't even a one off distrust of youth.
Its an excuse. Plain and simple.

Imagine if it was mourinho who named a 6 man bench. The Pep devotees would be criticising him no end. At the end of the day it’s his decision but he has made himself a bit of a hypocrite for this course of action, not to mention it looking a bit disrespectful towards Burnley.

6 man bench was a joke. "I didnt sign Mahrez for 60m so i cant name a 7th sub, even though i have an academy i just dont want to use them, they arent expensive enough"

Read an interesting quote from a pundit the other day online, said "When pep starts winning things and playing beautiful football with a West Ham, Newcastle, Everton, Southampton etc - then i will join the bandwagon, until then hes had it far too easy"

Fair point id guess, in a sense

An academy player would have benefited from the match day experience.

Piss poor, reserve game the night before or not.
