Manchester City banned from CL for 2 seasons and fined 30 million euros | CAS - Ban lifted, fined 10 million

So the gist of this is Uefa came on the hunt after the Der Spiegel article, we politely told them "you have everything already please feck off". They found us guilty anyway and embarrassed themselves with zero evidence at CAS and their big evidence the 6 emails weren't time barred or inadmissable, our legal team just refuted them and won. You couldn't make this up... we should go after them for damages.

"Nine Premier League clubs, including Newcastle and Burnley, lobbied against Manchester City attempting to suspend their two-year Champions League ban, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has revealed.

The teams were Arsenal, Burnley, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham and Wolves.

“On March 9 2020, nine Premier League clubs filed an application for intervention...for the limited purpose of opposing any possible application by MCFC to request for a stay of execution of the Appealed Decision.”

The report also revealed that City, who were fined 10m euros, obstructed the investigation into their finances.

"The majority of the panel finds that MCFC’s failure to cooperate with the CFCB’s investigation is a severe breach and that MCFC is to be seriously reproached for obstructing the CFCB’s investigations," CAS said referencing UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body.

CAS also said it hoped the fine would be a "sufficiently strong deterrent" and that City’s conduct should be "strongly condemned".

One of the most striking parts so far reading through is it in relation to the first leaked email, CAS found that it was basically weak evidence to uphold the bold claim that UEFA were making, and that, even if it were true, it came in two years before rules against it i.e. 'at the time there would have been nothing wrong with it' CAS concludes. Seems like UEFA's case was that it happened two years ago, when it was permitted, and it must have continued after it was prohibited, but they have literally no evidence for it. Laughable, really.

What is really funny is that City didn't actually try to get the ban suspended.

In fairness 6 of those teams had good reason to sign that letter. The 3 midtable clubs... dunno what they hoped to gain

Burnley are probably thinking they'd be above you without the doping

Maybe they dont condone cheating

Exactly. I don't see why those clubs wouldn't be allowed to voice their opinions on the matter. They try to compete like all clubs do to their ability. I'd throw up if I cheered for a team like them and saw Manchester City contra what happened to Portsmouth.

'More importantly, again, there is no evidence whatsoever...' CAS on page 69 in reference to another of UEFA's allegations. I mean I've read nearly of it now and that pretty much sums it all up. Jurgen Klopp said it was a 'bad day' for football that City won the appeal. I hope he bothers to read the details. Apparently, it would be a good day for football if UEFA could make severe claims with very, very, limited evidence (or literally none at all as CAS reveal in numerous instances) and hand down drastic punishments to clubs with no recourse to an independent court.

CAS basically conclude UEFA's evidence on its own would have been insufficient, but to compound it they then had the weight of witness testimony and accounting evidence against it.

Yada yada. People are angered with the decision because City didn't own up to the position they are in. It was artificial, which is the same reason FFP was created. Now they don't back it up.

Edit: What it proves is that football will be all about going forward - business > sport. Might as well throw FFP out the window now.

What does that mean? Just sounds like meaningless waffle.

Apart from Newcastle, the other clubs were either in the European spots or close to around March 9th.

Burnley were as close to Newcastle as they were to Europe as were Arsenal, Neither had a real chance. Apparently that letter was mainly Arsenals doing but whatever. I just hope they read the CAS judgement and realize just how stupid the letter was.

Because Shitty wouldn't be fecking anything or win any titles without oil money/business where thousands of people get abused? What's so hard to understand?

What has that got to do with the case. Putting a laughing face on it doesn't hide how angry the message is. You also know fecking nothing of the people who get abused nor do you give a feck. You're hurting cause of football.

They are guilty to be fake and FFP is supposed to sustain the future of football.

Guilty to be fake of what? Do you have any clue of the case you are on about? I mean the CAS headline was pretty fecking clear and the full document apparently backs that up.

I'm more inclined to say UEFA are utterly incompetent than City are innocent. I think City are clearly guilty of financial doping and spending way beyond their means but UEFA's attempt at controlling that was weak and pretty amateurish and their inability to prove that clubs who make a mockery of it are breaking the rules just reflects badly on them.
It doesn't change my view of City much or at all tbh.

More incoherent waffle that has no bearing to your original point about 'not owning up to the position they were in'. Basically, you're upset the facts of the CAS appeal are in City's favour.

Their success comes from Abu Dhabi where they condone slavery in labour which is something I don't agree upon. City didn't own the money they've invested in the past years from success. It comes from abusing citizens of those states.

UEFA failed and football is all a business going forward. No justice will be served.

Everyone knows Shitty was a losers club until some people invested tons of money into the club. Much of it which derives from business where people get abused on a daily basis. I wouldn't support that shit for my life.

Newsflash - City fans don't care, or they wouldn't be City fans.

Sponsorships had to be inflated at the beginning, but there is no way to definitively prove that, or links between those investing. They have absolutely played the system and UEFA were obviously livid about it.

They have been unable to prove what can’t be proven, so here we are. City get off and UEFA look incompetent.

Basically UEFA said City acted very suspiciously but it couldn’t be proven beyond reasonable doubt according to the BBC.
The same technicality that got Terry off from racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.

Yep, and the very clear distinction between being found "Not guilty" as opposed to actually being "Innocent"

That’s literally not at all how the case actually reads, and also displays a flawed understanding of how CAS operates. They would never say ‘innocent’ or ‘exonerated’, they just discuss things in terms of proven or not. They make it clear that UEFA’s claims are contradicted or unsupported by the evidence if you bother to read it.

Alright pal, calm down.
Your boys have got away with it, I'd leave it if i were you.

Again, not read the case. It had nothing to do with sponsorships being ‘fair-value’ and at any rate CAS and UEFA both basically accepted the two at the heart of the case, Etihad and Etisalat, were of a reasonable value.

sorry, I’ll listen to the expert who has read the 167 page document in 32 seconds rather than the BBC

I read that bit, but just because CAS have decided that based on what is in front of them, and what they are allowed to study, doesn’t mean it’s true. “The burden of proof” lay with UEFA and they have failed to provide enough of it. That does not mean City are innocent.

Obviously no one can declare guilt now with any certainty after an investigation, but if you think that people won’t continue to be skeptical, you are wrong. That will never go away. Like Rio’s drug test, there was a clear failure to cooperate, so we will never know. Some of it is literally lost to time and the remainder is, at best, unproven.

I understand that City fans will receive this report as a sweeping declaration of innocence. You want to defend your club. There will, however, always be questions over such a quick build, sponsors so closely linked to your owners and potential extra payments off the books. As well as questions over what exactly happened before the time bar and why they were so insolent in the face of authority and refused to cooperate (that part is proven and the fine is a consequence of that particular offense)

The only thing City are undeniably not guilty of is leaving any tracks.

They have played UEFA like fools.

It has which like i said is why FFP was supposed to came into play. They got away. Chelsea. City as clubs are examples of where you take advantage of the whole sport. Artificiality. It's not why I follow football and love United cus I've had the same team for above 20 years. It's the only team for me. Those fake ass clubs and "their success" was brought to them through fake money.

Edit: through oil oligarchy and slave money. Prove me wrong.

Such a hollow & soulless club. Just watched the 1999 CL final back, and no matter what they achieve, they will never ever experience a win that feels like that. Ever. Don’t come at me with that 2012 title that they bought either.

Has it been that way? Yes, but every fecker knows it was a failure. The only time we start reaching success that learnead to play the United way and carry their heart on our sleves. We got ways to go yet still.

City cheated everyone knows it.
Whether uefa’s incompetent lawyers could prove it or not is irrelevant.
I feel sorry for city fans as they didn’t ask for this but all of their achievements come with a bigger asterisk than pools title this year.
Yes you won but whatever you cheated.

Everyone that is hardcore United fan knows they are the club we used to feel sorry for out of empathy.

And they so happen to be a massive fecking failure.
