Manchester City banned from CL for 2 seasons and fined 30 million euros | CAS - Ban lifted, fined 10 million

Heard we will get the Premier league title if Man City got punished?
Amazing if true, Mourinho would finally win the league title with us, and with every club he has managed.

I think its funny. Retrospectively giving him a medal he won't want and it'll shit all over this being the first title in 30 years.

Thing is, he does want it and implied as much during a recent interview (or that's just what I read into his quotes).

Agreed, and even the hacking is a separate case. UEFA are acting upon information that has come to light showing City have been offending, ergo they will be punished.

Yeah, hopefully UEFA have done all the preparation. I don't see them overturning the ban, at best maybe reduce it by 1 year.

Laughing when I learn that City are banned from the CL....

Then I learn that Gerrard might get a winners medal; 'This is an absolute outrage! ...truly an injustice of the worst kind. It can't happen.'
Gerrard is a fecking wanker. The Biggest of the lot.
But even he wouldn't accept that medal.

One thing that seems to be undermentioned is that by cheating their way into the CL, City took money away from clubs that would have otherwise been in the CL or reached higher rankings. Within the FFP realm this isn't a victimless offense and over 6 or 7 years we are talking about maybe 500m€ received by City that could have been shared between clubs that ended up being just outside of CL spots.
This is why i dont think they should go back over the history. Its a massive can of worms. Stick an * next to their name in the records, anyone who's been watching football over the past decade has already subconsciously been doing that. Give them a suitable punishment and get on with things.

Hope it's a joke about them getting their titles rescinded. Purely because the players and manager did actually win those titles. Yes, the means which they assembled the squad was cheating and I think they should be banned from the CL and moved down a league as punishment to the entire club. But I don't like the idea of saying "actually liverpool or United won it that year now" because that moment has passed, we can't celebrate it. It would feel empty and meaningless, since we didn't actually win it. When Rio was banned for missing a so called drugs test they didn't strip him of his premier league medals from previous seasons (and the thought of 'pool getting a hollow title turns my stomach).

I think its pretty funny that this punishment is only for 2012 - 16 too. Doesn't cover the pep period when their spending got even more silly. Wonder what the punishment for that will be

I would be really surprised if this ban goes through. Their actions have made it clear they will bully, blackmail, cheat and if needs be bribe their way to overturning it, and UEFA somehow manage to have even less integrity than they do. Whatever happens, this is all part of why i don't care what they win even as a local rival. They could get 20 leagues in a row and not one of them would truly count.

- strip City of their titles
- everyone moves up a place
- teams who were not relegated in that season 2011/12 get to return to the premier league
- teams who have been promoted since then must leave (bye bye Sheffield United)
- players must return to the teams they played for in 2012 (bye bye Pogba)
- Premier League continues as though nothing happened

Exactly. I’m choosing to view these damning findings as being indicative of all their years since the Sheikh took over, not just a convenient 3-4 year window. It would be incredibly naive to think they cheated during Mancini and Pellegrini’s tenures but went bedsheet-white when Guardiola rocked up. :wenger:

Absolutely preposterous. As you say, their spending went into overdrive altogether when Guardiola joined. There’s absolutely no way that was legitimate or even remotely close to being legitimate.

....You want the scousers to retrospectively win another title?

What would be the count if all of City’s titles were stripped and retrospectively awarded to the runners-up instead?

United +2
Liverpool +2

I can live with that. Puts a lot of daylight between us, the Scousers and the best of the also-rans - Arsenal - in the all-time honours list and City go back to their rightful place, behind the likes of Huddersfield and Blackburn. Win-win.

I'm doubtful anything will happen from England. Have always said I put an asterisk on their titles and that might have to be enough. It's football and the league's reputation that's been tarnished. The English game has looked away and some reveled in it and are still sticking up for them.

Nothing of the sort will happen.

Could say the same about those juve teams.

Gotta say I agree with this. Whilst it would probably be funny for a while It would be the hollowest of hollow victories. Forget about retrospective punishments and league winner awards, just punish them going forward and get on with things. Stick and asterisk next to their past tainted titles if anything.

Very different situations. Juventus were found guilty of match fixing - the actual games were corrupted

City have used "fake" sponsorships to route the ownership's money into the club.

Which they did because of the frankly absurd FFP rules against owner investment, though that's beside the point

totally agree with the hollowness of stripping titles, drop them to the championship or give them minus 20 points next season as that will be amusing!

What the feck  not going to happen.

It's going to be strange if city win the cl this year
Uefa essentially saying they have built a team by avoiding ffp rules and will be banned for 2 years... Yet somehow it's ok for them to win it this year

Ideally this punishment should have come before the season started so another team could have taken their place it wouldn't have messed up the results for this season. UEFA could strip them of their title if they were to win it.

All this talk about stripping City of any league titles won since the Sheikh brought the club.

Have EUFA made a statement on the subject suggesting they plan to do just that?

The PL (or is it the FA) need to hurry up and clarify if 5th place gets CL this season. That will make the run-in much more interesting this season.

I disagree @Red Keane

...

Kept unchecked, City will absolutely dominate English football, make no mistake about it. City have hidden so much according to the leaks, just imagine what they'd be up to if nothing was preventing them? I'd imagine some Neymar-esque stupidity would be happening, maybe even with some of Liverpool's top players. If City dominate to that degree, other clubs will occasionally reach for the stars and financially cripple themselves and eventually the league would lose all credibility, loss of fans, loss of TV income, which would leave lots of smaller clubs completely financially ruined.
Not just the league, but top level football generally. Probably sport itself would be damaged if it became clear that it was no longer about skill and commitment, but rather about who happened to be able to attract the richest benefactor.

People do live vicariously through football, but they nevertheless want to feel some kind of connection with their team (which is why there is always so much support for home grown players, and general adulation for players who are loyal to a single club). Would anyone really take pride in the achievement of their club if it was represented entirely by mercenary hirelings, and was only successful because it happened to have the richest sheikh or oligarch?

That's not up to the FA/PL

Up to CAS now

I wonder what this means for the Newcastle takeover. UEFA is signaling that FFP has some teeth and it's not just for show. So the Saudis can't simply pump a billion pounds into the club and have them compete for the PL.

It's a pretty shit system FFP. UEFA is only worried because this will cement PL dominance even further and the Spanish / Italian clubs fall even further behind.

What the Premier League and FA do will be interesting.
If they also take action, that could potentially open the possibility of other clubs suing City for lost revenue too. Remember Sheff Utd and Tevez? West Ham had to pay them £20m for that. Imagine what the lost revenue for missing out on CL one year would be? On multiple occasions too.

Where's @Gentleman Jim and the rest of his City comrades hiding?

They could have the common courtesy to allow us poor United fans the opportunity to rub it in a bit.

Selfish.
