Manager draft

But the original question was can a Player be picked that wasnt eligible for your team, just so another manager cant pick him.

for example, if I drafted Batistuta just so harms couldn't, even though im completely unable to actually use him.

Recall some discussion on this before. As Balu said, the rule is on picking not playing. So in R1 you cannot pick a ineligible (NT) player.

I honestly don't understand that .

1st round: only allowed to pick players who played under the chosen manager at club level
2nd round and all the following: allowed to pick players who played under the chosen manager at club level and at a nationalteam he managed

That's it, clear as day. It wasn't about when you're allowed to play them in a game, but when you're allowed to pick them in the draft.

And that, by definition, excludes picking players who were never managed by the chosen manager, which is the point I was making.

It's got nothing to do with playing or picking at this stage, just the definition of where you can pick from.

See, like I said, I didn't understand your post ;)

 Aye

I told him not to go for Pirlo.

I can see some huge questions coming up about the players' form under the chosen manager with those picks

To spice up the team, we add a bit of Gre-No-Li. We sadly can't include all of them. Gunnar Gren left Milan before Guttmann became their manager, but the other two were still around and key players in their title win, Gunnar Nordahl being again the league's top scorer with 27 goals. We don't need even more goalscorers in our team though, that's why the one we want in our team is the greatest Swedish player of all time.

"At the end of the 20th century Liedholm was voted the best Swedish player of the millennium by the readers of Sweden's largest newspaper, Aftonbladet."

LiedholmMilan.jpg

Nils Liedholm

"According to legend, it took two years playing for Milan until Liedholm misplaced his first pass at the San Siro, the rarity prompting a five-minute ovation from the home crowd."

"Liedholm had great technical and physical skills with a middle distance athlete pace and great versatility on the pitch, in fact, later in his career, he even played as a defensive midfielder and centre-half. Of the three players he was probably the most complete and the one with the best physical condition: he played for the Rossoneri for 12 seasons, and retired from football when he was 38 years old, after tutoring a young boy whose name was Gianni Rivera."

Here's a great blogpost about that wonderful Swedish trio:
http://talesoffootball.blogspot.de/2011/08/legendary-gre-no-li-trio-in-brief-g-re.html

Wouldn't be surprised if it was true as a stretched truth. I.e that it was the first time he made a poor pass over those two years, rather than the first missed - which would be impossible.

He had the passing range of a Pirlo, Scholes or a Guardiola - but was also known for his extreme work rate and dribbling qualities which allowed him to play as a centre midfielder or even as a side midfielder. He is very very poorly rated compared to his actual abilities because the Swedish national team didn't allow professionals to play, only amateurs, until 1958 - where they went to the final. Unfortunately by 1958 they had all regressed and were at the end of their careers and Nordahl had already retired.

They beat some very strong teams on the way to the finals in, Soviet, Germany, Hungary and drew Wales with Charles. Had they been allowed to play in their peak they'd almost surely have been one of the historical all time greats likely to have challenged to won it in 50(where they finished 3rd)-54.

Carrying a small nation to finish third, then second, in 8 years is pretty damn incredible and Sweden has in the rest of its history had less success than under those 8 years alone.

I already posted this before, but because I can't think of anyone more useful:

Our next pick was already a global superstar, when he joined the São Paulo FC in 1957. Guttmann assessed, that he needed to add a strong presence for the attack; someone who was equally good in dribbling, shooting and passing; someone who was able to create changes for his team mate, while also being a sublime finisher.
Pele, who started his famous career the same year, described him as the best player that he ever saw and said:
"He is a complete player. He played in midfield, in attack, he scored goals, he could mark, head and cross."

10-Brazilian-footballers-who-came-from-the-streets-Zizinho-1024x1024.jpg

Tomás Soares da Silva - Zizinho

The tragic hero of 1950, scored 24 times during the championship and was the outstanding player of his team. With a smile on his face and under the special guidance of Belá Guttmann, Mestre Ziza lead the team to their last title for over a decade. During his career he won several championships in and was the outstanding player of the 1950 WC.

Gazzetta dello Sport described Zizinho as:
"Leonardo da Vinci, creating works of art with his feet on the immense canvas of the Maracan pitch."

Besides being brilliant on the pitch, he was also a very humble man, who genuinely loved football. When he was asked about the worst moment of his career - the final against Uruguay in 1950 - , he simply replied "Uruguay was better than Brazil."
In 1958, four days before the departure to the worldcup in Sweden, the brasilian manager asked him to join the team. He thought that replacing another player on such short notice would be unfair and declined; a decision that he only regreted, because he missed out on playing with Pelé.

Kohler, Reuter and Littbarski aren't as clear cut picks as they sound either
Kohler played 2 games or something around that amount under Lattek when they were fighting to stay in the league, if I'm not mistaken?

By the way, 5 players from Gio&Theon team picked so far! Impressive

Yup and Littbarski played a single game for Lattek for FC Koln before Lattek went on to become a technical director for FC Koln. We are both scraping for players here. If we both go on to the next round, you will see us getting even more desperate .

But his peak in those games was quite high ;) which by my calculations means he was at a high peak for 100% of the games he played under Lattek :D

He does not even need Rijkaard.

This defensive spine

-------Redondo-Dessaily-------
Maldini - Baresi - Billy - Panucci

Will eat any attack this draft can put together.

And he can add Cafu over Panucci as well.

Finito indeed. Getting my bags packed

Heh. There are a few things you could do for kicks if you go through to the semi, though. Bring in Sparky, say. Or Ole - with the stated intention to use him as a supersub.

Of course, Desailly was immense under Capello so there isn't really a major need other than Rijkaard being a better footballer. The thing is, his only remaining relevant upgrades are Gullit and Cafú. The only other two are luxury ones in Rijkaard and Buffon. I suppose that's the point though, picking a manager and drafting so as to arrive at your peak side by the time you play the final.

E.g. if both Latteks advance then they will have one pick at best to improve for the final, not a Lattek All-Stars.
