Man Utd set to appoint Director of Football (when hell freezes over)

Gotta be that someone told Howson a lie there. Or something got lost in translation. Someone who's been in the corporate world since 1995 wouldn't go into a meeting like that so unprepared. He's worked at JP Morgan and PricewaterhouseCoopers for multiple years.

I've been watching this thread title floating around the front page for ages.

So...is hell frozen yet?

I'd like to see Jamie Redknapp given the job. He did wonders at Pompey and West Ham. Never understood Sours giving him the boot.

Has anyone seen this about Judge and Meunier? feckin hell!

2 minutes in with Howson

So the person employed to negotiate contracts with players the club have identified was interviewing the player as if he was a nights manager at asda? What utter bullshit.

If there’s even a modicum of truth to this it’s utter madness, unfortunately it wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit because the people running our club are utter cnuts.

That Howson story sounds slightly ridiculous. I don't think Matt Judge is very good at his job, but why the feck would he not know who he is meeting and ask questions on appearances? What so he can negotiate on the fly, based on his answers?!

He doesn't want to know the answers, he just wants to analyze you while you talk, to find out what sort of "type" you are.

I'm lost as to how we haven't found a DOF yet...imo this should have been taken care of before we even confirmed Ole as the permanent manager.

The club is being very poorly managed/run at the present time.

I think people are thinking its all a bluff just to carry on as normal. Asking phelan, rio, fletcher it seems just a familiar face to appease the fans, who wont have much power anyway

The fact I'm not 100% sure it isn't true (and I'm pretty cynical of itk's) demonstrates how badly we have been run in recent years.

Sick of this, the lack of direction and transparency with implementing a DOF highlights the disgraceful window we've experienced thus far.

Solskjaer is bringing in all these young guns and if he's sacked 6 months into the season what does the next manager do ? Hire and fire, and we are left in a continual cycle of failure because of the useless hierarchy.

We have seen the structure of managers informing Woodward of signings with no DOF fail for a decade. So why bring in Solskjaer under the exact same regime, shouldn't Ole like Phelan have had the common sense to dictate that the structure change before his appointment ? What does Solskjaer know that Mourinho / LVG didn't, he pales in comparison to them managerially and LVG publicised just how poor the structure of the club is.

The club is a joke, before even thinking about appointing a manager a DOF should have been implemented at the very end of our season and collectively with Woodward they should have hired a manager who fits the long term vision. The reason why this methodology is important because even if the manager is a failure, the DOF stays, that's how and why elite clubs always remain consistent with success on and off the field there's a directive and vision that's being followed not from the manager but from the seniors of the club itself.

Disgraceful window thus far? We've signed one of the top 3 RB's in the league? Regardless of whether Ole's here for 3 months or 3 years whoever's in charge will be happy to AWB at their disposal.

AWB aside, it has been a disgraceful window so far.

It’s in the boards interests not to overhaul the football dimension of the club.

It was basically a ruse to keep fans quiet

Pogba will be another one deemed as failure under this management soon enough.

That leaves just Zlatan, Lindelof( I hope) and partly Shaw (debatable )as successful business since Woodward took over.

He’s no British

this is going to run and run along the signs of signing Muller/Bale/any other top name we have been linked to for 10 years non-stop. becoming clera this was a llne we were sold and the club intend to do nothing of the sort

Edu just became Arsenal's Technical Director and Cech has a similar role at Chelsea.

Can someone remind me why the idea of United considering Darren Fletcher is supposed to be absurd?

At this point I don't think this is happening. It is yet another one from Ed Woodwards playbook. Promise fans exciting things between Dec-May.
Feed media loads of stories that various candidates are being looked at.
Feed media stories about transfers and the so called "budget".

Put bid in for players we know won't be accepted.

Start the season with 2 signings and no DoF.

Offer exciting things? People moaned extensively about the idea of bringing in Fletcher

Well Ed did say "we can do things in the transfer window others can dream off" to me that is exciting?

I think at this point the fans would take Fletcher, the only thing I would say is I hope he is not a yes man, the way Ole seems to be.

It's the fact nobody will ask that question either to Woodward or Ole. It will be Pogba, Pogba and more Pogba. Why do journalist never ask the right question? They always ask such trivial rubbish.
