Man City players all wearing Gundogan shirts tonight

It's a bit embarrassing in my opinion. Especially considering he's only a new player aswell.

Eh seems a bit daft. Dedicating a trophy win to a friend is a bit different. Not the worst thing though (*cough*Suarez*cough*), assuming it was the players' idea

I can't believe they beat us to it. We're usually so on top of the t-shirt trend.

Trolling Athletic aside, I can't see any problem with this, just felt unnecessary? Might've been better if they just had armbands with his name/number. Wishing Gundogan a full recovery and all the best, as long as it's not against us.

Armbands? Why the need for these public displays of support at all? Nobody died, he doesn't have a life threatening illness. He just got an injury. I'm sure he found it a bit embarrassing himself.

I believe it's more to do with showing support for a mate who's had a history of injuries, getting dealt another potential long term blow

I agree that they could've done away with the pageantry of the shirts

Can't say I was enamoured with it, but wasn't disturbed either. Do hope it doesn't set a precedent, there's enough misery hunting and mawkishness in football already (black armbands or a minutes silence what feels like almost every week now, poppys having crept onto kits etc).

It's pathetic really, the guys injured for god sake. I'm sure he will be happy enough collecting his £190k a week though.

Nice to see that Gundogan was looking down from heaven today. RIP.

Obviously it's photoshopped. The Etihad is never that full.

I think it's utterly pathetic.

If these dodgy tributes have to be rolled out occasionally (to show how wonderful football is, and all that shite) they should mean something - a player hurting his knee is worthy of feck all.

The world we live in.. We're not allowed private thoughts, we have to announce everything like a bunch of halfwits in public.

But anyway, each to their own. Makes it easier to spot a twat this way.

"How are we doing, boss?"

I thought he still played for Dortmund, so I really found it weird. Now it seems okay. Still somewhat strange as it's not really done here but at least understandable.

One helluva sombrero though.

He's played NINE games for them, which makes it all far too cringy for my taste.

If the Dortmund players had done that this weekend though, that would have been kudos, however this just felt like attention seeking PR nonsense. Shame, as the man himself said, it makes it look like he's either dead or done a David Busst/Alan Smith type injury.

Omg this was so disgusting. Gundagon has joined city like 5 months back and they do this for him. Definitely cringeworthy this. If Chelsea would have done this for Zouma last season, I would feel ashamed for it. It's just a fecking injury for a player who has played 5 months for your club and who is already injury prone anyways.

On one hand it's a great gesture. Injured teammate, long-term injury and that. On the other - Gundogan has been with them for a half year, he spent most of his City time in the treatment room...It's hard to argue that he has been a crucial member of the team. IMHO a PR stunt, City try to emulate what Barca have been doing ....so yeah nice gesture but also a bit cringe worthy.

Sets a precedent though, doesn't it? Any City player getting a serious injury will now question their importance if they don't get the same amount of public recognition. Cue 'Save Zabaleta' shirts for the next game.

There's a 2 hour echo in here. Thought I'd tripped out and/or time travelled

Haven't really skimmed the thread enough but has anyone mentioned that it sets a silly precedence for injured players going forward? Wonder what Kompany thinks of it.

Gundagon has been a sicknote for years, and barely played for the club for a few months. Just mind boggling really.

Gundagons tweet was pretty funny.

As for the gesture itself, it was pathetic but its City so what do we expect.
