Man City players all wearing Gundogan shirts tonight

Fair play to City. No player in the history of football has ever suffered a long-term injury before... This is unprecedented territory for a football club. A lovely gesture.

Imagine if we had to wear Phil Jones shirt for all 538 days he's been injured.

Just waiting for Oasis to come onto the pitch at half time and sing Candle in the Wind.

It's pretty standard for Spanish teams, I doubt if many of the City players thought it was unusual. A bit like getting cake on your birthday really.

Don't see any issue with it to be honest. They showed some support for him, not doing the same for Kompany and Delph is another thing.

Roy Keane wouldn't etc etc etc

The Kings of 'Banter' Paddy Power been having a field day on these shirts:

"Inspired by the Gundogan Man City shirts today, tomorrow I'll be wearing a "DAVE" t-shirt into work. Poor lad has the sh*ts, he says"

"F*cking hell, try some f*cking defending", says İlkay Gündoğan, looking down from the pearly gates of heaven. May he rest in peace."

"Liam Gallagher will shortly be performing a poignant version of Candle In The Wind, in memory of the sadly deceased İlkay Gündoğan."

I feel sorry for the guy, he's like Phil Jones and Michael Owen wrapped up in one.

Really rate and like Gundogan, fell bad for him, but that was pathetic. He's only injured his knee, still be pocketing thousands per week.

Imagine we had to wear a shirt every week for Hargreaves.

Cringeworthy and embarrassing. Had he been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, as in the case of Petrov at Villa, then fair enough I think we'd all have applauded that but whatever next if there's this sort of public outpouring for a three month injury lay off.

He will still be picking up his £150,000 a week and he'll be back by March/April.

It's pretty soft to be fair. Gundogan's played about a dozen games for them, and he's not dead. This just damages the credibility of gestures like this with more meaning behind it. So many people have had long term injuries who have actually had tenure with a club, and they dont cry like this.

"Get Well Soon Jesper Blomqvist." "This Ones For You Dave May." Christ.

Nothing to get worked up over..surely? Its a nice gesture and most clubs do it.

He broke his leg and had been a fixture in that league cup run and was promised a start in the final. They did a tribute after the cup win because he was in hospital when he should have been on the pitch. Those shirts would never have seen the light of day if we'd have lost the cup final. A tribute to a guy who helped get you to the final is far different than shedding proverbial tears for someone who has injured himself. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was out for 2 years and eventually had to retired. Ole gave up all the money from his boot deal to charity because he couldnt perform in a United shirt for so long. If anyone was going to get the t-shirt treatment its him. But we didnt, because its pretty dumb.

One of the oddest things I've seen in a while. Wonder who thought it was a good idea.

Trolling Athletic aside, I can't see any problem with this, just felt unnecessary? Might've been better if they just had armbands with his name/number. Wishing Gundogan a full recovery and all the best, as long as it's not against us.
