To be fair the quotes I saw was that Evans said it was right for him to go, not that it was right for LVG to sell him. We had plenty of defenders and so it really becomes a dealers choice if you prefer Rojo or Evans.

It's second hand information but according to Martin O'Neill, Fergie couldn't believe we sold Evans either - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/sir-alex-ferguson-van-gaal-10676283

Evans never stayed injury free for us during his last few seasons at the club and with Smalling and Jones record and Lvg wanting a left footer it became unsustainable to keep all 3 I suppose.

Evans has been held back by injuries and sometimes crumbling mentally under big pressure otherwise he was class from youth days. Overall was always more impressive than even Gerard Pique since then and was preferred.

Evans himself insisted he was horrible in his last season with us and LVG was right to sell him. No one should try and rewrite history and claim letting him go was a 'mistake'....
The mistake was employing LVG who thought the likes of McNair and Blackett were better.

Expect this to be a formality if true, still lives in Manchester, wife works at MUTV and will fit in well with City's new 3 at the back system getting plenty of games.

Or maybe they are signing Evans to keep Vincent "Kompany" in the treatment room...although I think since he joined WBA he has started fairly regularly, 61 games in 2 seasons.
This would be a real surprise if it happened, don't think anyone saw this transfer coming.
Some players can't handle the pressure at big clubs and injuries can often be the result of tension/nerves affecting the muscles and posture.

At WBA they play once a week, with different training sessions than a club with EU football

Yep. He was.

He was shit in that season as a whole tbf and injured a lot.

I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

He was put in as a senior head and was one of the worst players on the pitch.

I wish Evans had succeeded here but let's be honest he's not missed and had plenty of opportunities to become a key player post Rio and Vidic - he simply didn't take them.

Gets far too much praise on the Caf as he's Irish and an academy product. He's done well at WBA. Leave it be.

I always liked Jonny, but it was absolutely evident that the time had come for him to move on when he did.

In my mind there were no doubts about his ability, he simply didn't have the required mentality to make the transition from solid back-up to a reliable member of the first choice XI at the highest level. Sir Alex leaving as he was on the cusp of taking the step probably played a part in that, too.

Could he do a job for City? I'm sure of it, but that doesn't mean we were wrong to move him on when we did.

Evans has regained confidence again at WBA, but he's nowhere near the level city would want for the first team.

He's been really well protected in the wba system, they've even made mcauley look like a top player at times. Take him out of that rigid defensive system and he will go back to being shaky nervy like he was for us.

I can't see him being any more than a bench player, which at his age does he really want to be a part timer?

Woah there mate McAuley is a bloody legend!

They should hold out for the standard 50m for every defender City buy.

People are overrating him after a few decent seasons at a very defensive and average team. He was bullied by the likes of Carlton Cole while at United.

Always maintained he should never have been sold, he had a bad couple of season but he was nowhere near our worst defender.

Plus he had the experience of Sir Alex behind him.

I'm surprised we sold him in the first place. The poor chap was just here at the worst time imaginable, Moyes and LVG were a disaster. Making decent players look shite and playing mad systems.

Arsenal were interested in him too, he's turned into a fine player and really should be playing at the top level.

He always was, Sir Alex wouldn't have rated him if he was shite. You've said it all there, the two managers you named were useless and sold decent players who were out of form.

I don't think he has the pace to survive in the very high line that City plays. His passing and distribution have always been good.

Does his wife still works for MUTV?

Would he want to go there? I guess he would ignore his past with us no?

18m though

Let's not pretend y'all are now big WBA fans who've followed him post Utd and that he's all of a sudden brilliant. He's an average player who flatters to deceive at the top level. Big fish in a small pond. £25m for him is bonkers. I'd be delighted if City got him.

Always pegged Evans down for being a United lad through and through.

He'd be returning to a top team. Getting paid more and competing in the CL again. I wouldn't begrudge him the move. I think he would do well there, and Stones could learn from him.

It'd be disappointing seeing him in their colours, but he shouldn't turn down the chance because of that. The only reason he should decline the move is i he feels he wouldn't play enough.

He is but at the end of the day Utd sold him. Johnny and his brother had been brought over to England by United as kids and they spent most of their youth at the club and basically grew up around the place.

Goldfish mode is on i see . People are surprised we sold him...this whole place went in flames after that league cup game vs Dons i think.

He'll always be bullied by beastly, physical players. That'll hardly change at 29.
But he'd be a good option for them. Wouldn't begrudge him 3 years at a title challenging club.
He'll always be able to get the obligatory move to Everton or West Ham after that

You're kidding, aren't you? Got dogs abuse for 3 or 4 years before he headed off.

I guess we have no sell-on clause included in the bargain price we gave to West Brom?

We sold him and decided to move on. I wouldn't be happy with the move, but I wouldn't hold a grudge like Tevez. It's an opportunity to win things, make more and not have to drastically re-settle. He gave United what he had, and our manager at the time didn't think it was enough.

He wasn't good enough at united. That's fact.
He was good enough for Sir Alex Ferguson, playing lots of games in his last two title winning teams, but yeah he wasn't good enough for some here!
It would be strange seeing him in their shirt but part of me wants this transfer to happen so Evans gets some more recognition among fans. He was a very good servant to the club, some great games down the years.
What a tool LVG was, selling him and Keane and keeping Blackett and McNair :wenger:

its sad how things went with Evans, you look back to how good he was when Vidic and Ferdinand where going through injury issues, he was in my opinion the second best defender in the league after Kompany for an 18 month period, then Vidic gets fit and Fergie drops Evans, and that seemed to knock his confidence and we never saw the best of evidence again.

But since he's been at West Brom i've been really impressed by him, he deserves another move to a big club, im sad its city but its our own fault for not handling his career better.

There were a lot of players that were good enough for Fergie. It's what made him so special as a manager. Fabio started a Champions League final against that Barcelona side, after all.

I can see the logic in it. Its a good move all round really. We don't need him, we have 4 CBs at least as good or better and a few young lads. Too good for WBA, should be part of a squad challenging in Europe and for the PL. City need experienced proven PL defenders and can pick him up relatively cheaply
