Mahrez | Signed with City

People defending mahrez recent behaviour is astonishing. I understand his disappointment and frustration but come on. The guy is getting paid six figures a week. He should get on with his job, let the club know he isn’t happy with the valuation in private and put a transfer request in when the season is over.

Petulance my arse. Leicester betrayed him and went back on a gentle mans agreement. He had every right to feel aggrieved. They know it too so they've let him boil and cool down
Considering your handle you understand me being a little cautious in how I reply, Chief :nervous:. But seems to me the City gig is gone now, so he might as well get on with it; might make him a bit more attractive to other prestigious clubs if he acts like a model professional.

City fecked him up but he was an idiot too. He throws in transfer requests easily without having any brain to think about the consequences or the possibility of the deal collapsing. He has put what, 3 transfer requests in his time there each time a big club is interested in him ? He's stupid.

I would blame his agent more than himself tbh. If he wants out the club and agent should deal with it professionally since they're representing the player.

They didn't go back on anything, City failed to meet their valuation, it's not their fault.

It's not black and white, on one hand, Leicester had every right to ask for more money considering that it was the last days of the transfer window and that he's one of, if not the most important player for them.

Leicester are in no way to blame here.

At the same time we can understand the player. He was professional for a year and a half, gave his all for the team even after they held onto him last summer.

I don't think that his absence from training was a kind of rebellion against the club. I think it was a mix of not see a way back after he asked for a transfer and a frustration at the move not materializing. He took a week/10 days to clear his mind and came back. And as he said in his statement, he was in contact with Leicester and they knew about his whereabouts.

The speculation of the media made it into more than what it is.

And for the poster talking about 3 digits salary. Well, they are humans, we shouldn't expect players to act differently than us because they earn more.

City is the only culpable for me here. And I'm not saying that because they're our rivals. Merely because their approach was disgusting. They made a mess of the situation, they pulled away and let the lcfc handle the mess.

I think part of this is the inflation in values that occurred between last summer and January. In the summer I reckon Leicester would have let him go for £55m-ish - and may have told Mahrez that. In January after the Neymar, Coutinho and Van Dijk deals that amount suddenly looks well under market value and they are right to reject it, but you can see why Mahrez would be pissed off if it was pretty much just a timing issue.

That said, no excuse for binning training and he should be fined for that.

Who's going to sign him now when he's displayed that sort of attitude?

I understand he must have been gutted but you can't just go on strike for a week when your team needs you.

Would anyone welcome him here now after this demonstration of petulance?
With open arms, we're a significantly bigger club than Leicester, only a handful of players would dare force their way out of this club for whatever reasons.
This guy has all the makings of a mercenary. For all those clamoring for us to sign him, what if Madrid come calling in a year? He'll probably do the same thing.
He's African so he probably sees us as the pinnacle of world football. This is the sort of thing that doesn't at clubs like ours as we offer the best of everything. Money, prestige, potential success etc Although the latter is not quite there atm, it'll likely change soon.

He's always seemed a bit thick and a big baby. This just confirms the opinion I had of him.
Players try to force moves out of clubs all the time with this sort of petulance cause of how stubborn clubs are due to how much money there is around. Most of them come around and go back to their clubs and get on with it.

He is basically French. Born and raised in France, not just relocated like other cases. Just eligible and chose to play for Algeria. He is more European than African in that sense.

How different people perceive thing is hard to judge. So I am not gonna to go in that discussion

I can see his point of view in all this, he's at the point that if a big club comes calling its his chance, they've agreed he can go for a fair price and then Leicester have bumped up that fair price.

Don't blame Leicester in the slightest but you can see it from all parties. Also, i think players tend to be more loyal to managers than clubs and we know what Leicester did the ungrateful bastards.

That isn't my problem. It's just the fact that he went "missing" after the window. That is dumb, clubs can be real cnuts for sure but once the window is closed and you have to stay there, what is the point of going on strike since we know he will come back tail between legs begging to play anyway ?

You can see both sides, Mahrez essentially misses out on a free PL medal and a chance for a serious run in the CL, playing under Guardiola and better players with higher wages, to essentially play for a Leceister team milling about in the middle of the table and at best attaining Europa next season. You can understand why he'd feel aggrieved, you can say 6 figure salaries and contracts but the difference in those two situations is huge.

On the other side I can sympathise with Leceister because we went through a similar thing with Ronaldo. He came out with comments like being a slave to the club while wanting to move to Madrid, though the difference was that SAF promised that he could leave after the 08-09 season and we were challenging for the PL and CL that season. It's never nice when one of your own players wants to leave, there's a feeling of betrayal and resentment, but people do need to still realise that players like us do have their own ambitions and goals. In the end though it just sours the memory of a player once they do eventually leave.

French players aren't sticklers for the big Spanish side's either, that's more a Latin thing.

Well he's back and says a lot of what was written wasn't true. As it is, probably went out to 'clear his head' and all that.

I'll try to add into the discussion:

While Mahrez talent is no doubt a huge part in his success, he also owed Leicester for nurturing his talent. As I explained above that Mahrez is a French. He didn't fancy himself to make it into France NT and chose to play for Algeria NT instead. The Mahrez we know nowadays has a lot of attachment to Leicester. Leicester is entitled to get the fee they wanted. Normally, player in this situation would try to help his current club. Again, not drawing any conclusion

I said I am not into mind reading discussion. Just correcting wrong info: Mahrez being African

No one should expect Loyalty in the game as no one really is. Clubs throw players and coaches out like yesterdays trash, and players and coaches ditch clubs all the same.

I'm sorry but I don't believe it, seems way too convenient to say a lot of what was written wasn't true. This again, makes my opinon of him even worse. He's a fecking idiot.

Agreed.

Mahrez was well within his rights to go on strike IMO. If he has a dream to play for a bigger club then what is wrong about that and for me quite cruel to deny it when he's played his heart out for that club and put them on the map.

Yes they helped him develop but Leicester FC will always be there whereas Mahrez the footballer has a finite shelf life and obviously doesn't want to waste his entire career at a smaller club when there is a chance he could be a smash hit at a big club and be recognised as one the leagues leading footballers. Nothing wrong with personal ambition.

City acted like dicks but IMO so did Leicester. You can't sell guys like Kante on one hand and then start playing hard ball with a guy whose been very professional and stayed there longer than he should have. Quite right that he should go clean his head as well.. must have been seriously pissed off at the club and as long as he hasn't been paid wages - fair enough.

I don't think this suddenly makes him unsignable and a bad apple.

How on earth can you blame Leicester City for the transfer collapse?!:wenger:
So according to that logic, if Real had come with a 50 million pounds offer for DDG on the last day of the January window and DDG had handed in a transfer request, we should be like oh yes, thank you Real, let us drive him to Madrid for you!
Just because Leicester is not a top 6 club, they should just bow down to the Masters?

City came in with a lowish offer with less than 48 hours to the end of the window, what's Leicester supposed to do, here take our best player while we have no time to get a replacement for him, just pay whatever you want, it's fine. You do realize that gylfi sigurdsson went for 45 million and he isn't half the player Mahrez is.

You can't compare this situation to Kante.Kante had some sort of release clause, that's why he was sold for a relatively low amount. Also Kante had many offers from big clubs, Mahrez didn't.
Mahrez has a contract with the club, they are his employers and the club comes before any player, no player is bigger than the club.Im sure if a reasonable offer comes in the summer window, Leicester wouldn't stand in Mahrez’s way.

I doubt any club cares. The guy is still a fantastic player who just wants to play for a bigger club and arguably does deserve to play for a bigger club.

The only people who care about this sort of stuff are fans on the internet.

Yeah, people have short memories here. Remember the Berbatov saga, Rojo.... That's just the latest examples related to us.

Yes it is. They agreed to sale him for 45m if a bid of that value came when he indicated he was ready to leave Leicester at the end of last season. Then City finally come in for him on January and they demand 90m....

That was in summer, by January with the prices of players that 45m was no longer viable. He was unprofessional in the way he behaved, you can't just dishonour your contract like that because you didn't get your way.

Exactly. Betrayal or not, he is still under contract so he had to show up.

Come one pal, you know those figures have been long left behind since last year's crazy summer. Neymar is now a 200m player, Lukaku 90m, Coutinho 130m, VVD 70m.

A Premier League winner/POTY winner is no longer a 45m player, not a chance.

And City had two things going against them, 1) they came so damn late in the window giving Leicester zero options and 2) they weren't willing to pay the only fee Leicester could possibly accept so late in the window.
If City come back in June with the same offer, Mahrez will be a Man City player, if they don't, well they didn't really want him that badly anyway, just as cover for Sane.

Hell, if City's offer had come 10 days earlier, the price they offered would have been enough. Mahrez is an absolute dick for not realising that.

On the bench today for LCFC against City, it'll be interesting to see if he gets some minutes and if he does, how will he do.

He really shouldn't IMHO. He has showed to be a little bitch, don't take any risks of him stinking the plac up. Not this early anyway and defo not against the team he wanted to join.

Sanchez is the better player, but Mahrez would have slotted straight into our RW position with ease. I hope we still see Alexis there too, but it seems more and more unlikely.

I don't know why u didn't go for both. Sanchez left and Marhez right would be awsome, yes I rate Martial but he's not there just yet and Rashford could have been a proper backup for Lukaku.
