Mahrez | Signed with City

So what is his intent with this striking? I'm not quite sure, apparently he will miss the whole week.

Really silly from Mahrez, he should've run his contract down like Sanchez did or at least brokered a release clause into it at the time of renewal. Leicester are well within their rights to hold on to him.

All things considered, this was a disgusting move by City. Unsettle a club's best best player on deadline day, giving them no chance at all to find a replacement, and then proceed to act shocked when they put a steep price on the player. What on earth do they gain from fecking over a club like Leicester? If you're going to pull off a dick move like this, at the very least you should be prepared to pay over the odds, especially when you're filthy rich anyway. But hey, City are apparently a classy club.

Mahrez is a cnut, who knew?

Yes he wanted to join City but it didn't happen. Be a fecking professional and go do your job you're paid for. This AWOL shit sickens me, it's literally not possible for him to move until the summer now, get on with it!

Also a ''dream'' to play for City? Please. He didn't know who they were until a few years ago.

In a way I feel sorry for him.

The way I see it:

*They let Kante go for cheap.
*Was willing to let Vardy go (to Arsenal)
*He promised out of loyalty to stay at Leicester after winning the PL to fight in the Champions League.
*Apparently was told he can go after the above as he kept his 'word.'

Now all of a sudden they are refusing decent bids from every club. Kante is the better player IMO (not as flashy but a rare asset) and he was allowed to leave for Chelsea... so why not Mahrez?

Leicester have not kicked on since their title winning campaign, of course he isn't bigger than the club but he is genuinely a player I would like to see progress when surrounded with better players. I think he has the ability to make it at the top level if he gets a fresh move. There is no point being a big fish in a small pond. His reasons for wanting out are totally legitimate.

Afterall I doubt he would want to be considered as a 'nearly man.' The boy has come from humble beginnings and has never been able to express his freedom properly. The bids made for him are fair all things considered. He is not a £90 million man.

I completely agree with you, but I have sympathy with Leicester over the timing.

I’ve also heard a rumour that Kante had a release clause, so there’s also that.

I don't blame Mahrez for wanting out. He's shown he's a very good player - he doesn't owe Leicester anything. Leicester aren't planning on matching his ambition - let the guy go. I'd say the same if it was any of our players. If DDG handed in a transfer request or said he wanted to, i'd want us hold out to get the best possible deal, but certainly wouldn't ask for a bazillion quid to make sure no sale ever happens. On the other hand I can see it from Liecesters POV. Why let him go in January when it's harder to find a replacement.

I get the points you are making but in this climate of massive tv money, a Premier League winning, former player of the year is absolutely worth £90 million to Leicester. City shouldn't expect to pay less just because they see him as a quick fix.

While I sympathize for Mahrez for not getting his move even though Leicester had an agreement with in the previous window, I agree with the clubs decision not to sell him especially during deadline day. Losing your best player on deadline day without a replacement in place is flirting with relegation.

In conclusion, City are real cnuts.

Leicester probably did him a favour anyway, much better off going to a team that will plan long term with him and not just until Sane and Jesus are back fit.

Mahrez is making himself look like a tool if you ask me! Leicester have said they will sell him, for the right price. Why should City (or anyone) pay less than the asking price? He is worth a lot more than £65m in this market, the closest comparison would be the Coutinho deal, which for me would render Mahrez worth closer to £100m.

There is the argument of LCFC wanting a replacement, but i think if City had offered what he is worth, he would be a MCFC player now. His sulking just makes him look like someone you wouldnt want in your team, and i would love it if LCFC just held him to his contract for 3 years, and let him sit on the bench, its not as if the owners need the money!

yes I'm intolerant of idiocy, it's about the 20th time someone has said "well they sold Kante" and his release clause was widely reported at the time of his move.

So I used bold block capitals in the hope he and other numpties that still don't understand that finally pick it up

But it's just different people who haven't found out yet.

He should be turning up for training. Leicester have a value and city didn’t reach it. Why wait until deadline day to make a bid when Leicester have no time to bring anyone else in. If Mahrez wanted to leave he shouldn’t of signed a new contract.

This!

Fed up of reading LCFC should let him go...football isnt a charity, Mahrez has a value, and it should be paid, City just being as classy as ever!

Agreed. If this had been a couple of weeks earlier I am sure LC would have considered it. Even if City had agreed to pay an extra £10 or £15 mill, whats the point when its the last day of the window and they cannot get a replacement.

how many times do people like you need to be told this

KANTE HAD A RELEASE CLAUSE WE COULDN'T STOP HIM LEAVING

Also at the time Vardy had a release clause, it was removed when he signed a new contract ,Mahrez wanted to leave 18 months ago too, but he still happily signed a new contract and didn't insist on a release clause

And Drinkwater. The fact of the matter is strong rumors have been stated that he was given permission to leave after the Champions league Campaign. I forgot about the release clause, so my mistake on that, but other points are valid.

Drinkwater was sold because the fee we wanted was offered and we had a replacement.

Apparently Patrick Roberts was the player they offered us in return

So he is officially on strike now, this is getting worse every day. Not sure why City only made bid in the last 2 days when Leicester can't even sign replacement.

lol that's hilarious. offering a young player that has absolutely no chance at making it at City.

and currently on loan at Celtic, who I'm pretty sure would have to agree to send him back and wouldn't

This is a bit pathetic from Mahrez. He's on a nice wage playing for a good team with fans who (used to) love him. Even if he wants to leave, just needs to get his head down and treat the rest of the season as a shop window.

I don't usually have much criticism of Manchester City's spending but I think they should have done better this time. Unsettling a player at a smaller club at the last minute, leaving the club with no time to find a replacement, seemingly offering a a new opportunity to a player who would like to leave only to take it away again - unless they had very good financial reasons for not making a move sooner (it's hard to see what they might be) it's all a little sour.

I think Leicester were justified in refusing (since the offer came so late they were likely looking to make up the difference in lost income more than find an immediate replacement) but I also feel for Mahrez. A player only has a few years to play. Why did he not have a way out put into his contract, though?

I want him at United to play on our right wing.

Greedy, I know.

Let's see if City actually go back in for him in the summer. He seems desperate to leave regardless, so I'm sure he will leave this summer.

It's easy to say. Footballers getting good salaries doesn't mean that they can't be depressed.

I do agree with the point you're making just not the tone. it's not pathetic as there are good reasons why he's feeling this way. he'll definitly get there (what you mentionned). it's just too soon. it's been only two days.

That young player they bought for millions and is very talented too!

Yeah he's talented but you don't replace the best player in your team with a youngster who's highest experience is Celtic. It also doesn't make up the €30m they were lacking in their offer.

Mahrez' old agent should never work in football again. Absolute idiocy to have not included a release clause in his new deal in the summer of 2016 after the season he'd just had, I'm sure even at £60-70m at the time Leicester would have had no choice but to agree to it and he'd probably be at another club by now.

There was understandably a bit of scepticism about whether he would repeat that performance, but as soon as he started to show that form again it was obvious he would have suitors, now Leicester are in a strong position though and have racked the price up.

I don't blame Mahrez for wanting out. He's shown he's a very good player - he doesn't owe Leicester anything. Leicester aren't planning on matching his ambition - let the guy go. Why doesn't he owe the club anything? The club that took a chance on him while he was playing for a shite league 2 team in France. They helped develop him into the player he is today.

Excellent player who clearly wants to leave for a top club. The stumbling block will be the transfer fee.

In return he helped them win the league and performed at a top level. I don't support the pouting and going awol but wanting to grasp a better opportunity? That's every players right.

They have every right not to sell him if they feel they aren't getting the money that he's worth or the money they want. Would've been a bad move going to city anyway IMO.

Downed his tools to get Ranieri sacked, downs his tools now again, what's new. Exactly why he didn't make a move to a bigger club.

Agreed, it's obviously crap for him but on the grand scale of things it's only a few months more with a top half PL club on what I'm sure is an already generous salary.

Of course...but there are plenty of people in every line of work who are a bit miserable in what they do, but have to endure it anyway with the knowledge that if they decided not to show up then they'd be sacked. Mahrez is still in an enviable position. If he is having any genuine issues then I wish him the best of luck but I get the impression he's just a bit pissed because he didn't get the move he wanted for now, and because he's been expected to (rightfully) fulfill the obligations of the contract he has with Leicester.

For some reason, I can see him getting a big move in the summer.... Failing, then ending up at a second tier club like Roma.

Really silly of his agent- it's their job to sort things like that out!
