Mahrez | Signed with City

Apparently, City tried to sign him already last summer and went for him again this window.

Pep:

"We tried to do it in the summertime, we tried to do it now, but like summer, they locked the door and we can go to the summer and holidays.

"It was not possible. With [Aymeric] Laporte yes, with the other one no. We are going to see what happens in the summer."

How dare Leicester City first of all refuse to sell their player but secondly of all, asking for huge money!

Can't believe Leicester chose Money over Pep. How ungrateful.

Sounds like they will go for him again in the summer. Expect Mahrez head to be fully turned now and it'll be an easy summer transfer in the end.

My lack of extremity one way or the other might not be welcome in this thread, but I'm of the opinion they probably should have met in the middle. Not worth £95m, but worth more than £65m.

I think given the situation whereby he wanted out (and Leicester are probably stuck with an unhappy player who could down tools at any minute) they should have lowered their demands to around £80m, they could have maybe chucked a load of money at Leverkusen for Bailey or something as a replacement and then reinvested elsewhere.

Whether City would have gone to £80m or not though I don't know.

That's all very reasonable, but how could Leicester have tied up a deal for a suitable replacement, Bailey as an example, in just a few hours..?
If City genuinely wanted Mahrez, and by Pep's comments they tried for him last Summer, then why on Earth didn't City begin negotiations with Leicester as soon as the January window opened, and not leave it until the last day?

This move is just a knee jerk reaction to missing out on Sanchez and losing Sane to injury.
I seriously doubt that City will make a move for Mahrez in the Summer when Sane has returned to action.

Yup and probably for less money, too. All this lauding of Leicester standing up to big bad City is kind of ridiculous considering Leicester could well come out worse from this. They have a deeply unhappy player that could affect morale, affect his performances and he may now move for less money in the summer, considering it won't be rushed and teams have months to negotiate / move onto other targets.

Edit: I'm not saying for one minute that City didn't act the billy big bollox / nor did Leicester have to accept the offer, just that all this lauding of Leicester is kind of weird.

He is official striking now. He is considering not to play until summer

Then they wont have to pay him right? If HE makes the decision to not train and play then its not the team's fault. It becomes a breach of contract doesnt it?

No wait didnt pep say they were strapped for cash? But they still want to buy half of all decent players in europe?

yeah a couple of weeks of not getting paid will soon change his attitude, though I'd make him train on his own until he issues a public apology for disrespecting the club, his teammates and fans.
If I were City I'd make it known I don't want players that go on strike too

Yeah it’s going to look bad on City signing a player who strikes for the rest of the season. It wont happen though he’ll say sorry and move in the summer.

Well done to Leicester here, really happy that club stood its ground - great for football in general.

Riyad Mahrez not at Leicester training after Man City move fails to progress
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...raining-after-man-city-move-fails-to-progress
Mahrez put in another transfer request in the days running up to Deadline Day, and was not at training on Friday last week, meaning he was not part of the Leicester squad for Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Sky Sports News was told on Deadline Day that Mahrez had been left "depressed" by Leicester's decision not to accept City's final offer for him.

Mahrez is understood to have told Leicester his emotional state is not strong enough to play football at the moment.

Mahrez playing the mental health card in a cheap attempt to avoid criticism for his disloyalty to the club that really put him on the map...

Why would you turn in a transfer request on the last day of the window? So stupid on his part. If he really wanted to leave, should have turned it in earlier in the month, which would have given Leicester more time to find a replacement.

City came in at the last minute.

Didnt you see? City were in for him since the summer. I mean still agents and clubs must have had some communication through the window.
I imagine the contact was Leicester asking for £95m. City politely telling them no. This probably resulted in no official offer being tabled until the final day with City testing the waters on what amount Leicester would settle on. To have bid earlier would have put Leicester under less pressure to accept the £65m (and player) deal as they had more time to negotiate.

you really think they have been interested for 2 windows but have never lodged an official bid? they were quoted £95m in part because it was last minute, they could have spoken to us all season to negotiate and have him on Jan 1st if they really wanted him, they don't

If the player turned in a transfer request and refused to train with two weeks left in the window and City offer around 65-70m, there are more chances of the club accepting that bid and then going to find a replacement than this whole process happening with less than 24 hours left in the window.

They had the whole window to make a proper play for him.

No sympathy for him. In contract - might be frustrating for him but a few months more is hardly awful considering he's on good money. Club should fine him and demand an apology.

City taking a page of Barca's playbook also. They tell the player that HE has to force his way out by turning in a transfer request, then when things go south, the player is made out to be the bad guy in all of this.

Is he one of these with a release clause?

If it's not been met, then tough tomatoes fella - you agreed to it.

And after City just went and bought an uncapped defender from a mid-table La Liga side for £57m, I think Leicester are within their rights to hold out for closer to £100m for their star man Mahrez.

no release clause, the club learned from Kante

I can understand him being upset, he deserves a move to a top 6 club. With that being said, if City left it to the last few days for a bid, surely you can't blame Leicester turning it down with no chance of getting a replacement. Can't know what really went on though.

It's good to see the bully clubs and players/their agents thinking they control everything isn't working. Good on Leicester, to be honest.

Well, I don't disagree, but Leicester will lose money, serious money. All he has to do now is show up in training and play below his ability until his contract runs out. And if they decide to sell him in the summer, the amount of money offered will be far less than what it was on the table.

If a player does not want to play for you, sell him! This will allow you to bring another player of same, if even better quality, and avoid causing unrest within the team.

After all, they only paid £350k to get him. I d like to know who the scout was, he was a genius.

In a way I feel sorry for him.

The way I see it:

*They let Kante go for cheap.
*Was willing to let Vardy go (to Arsenal)
*He promised out of loyalty to stay at Leicester after winning the PL to fight in the Champions League.
*Apparently was told he can go after the above as he kept his 'word.'

Now all of a sudden they are refusing decent bids from every club. Kante is the better player IMO (not as flashy but a rare asset) and he was allowed to leave for Chelsea... so why not Mahrez?

Leicester have not kicked on since their title winning campaign, of course he isn't bigger than the club but he is genuinely a player I would like to see progress when surrounded with better players. I think he has the ability to make it at the top level if he gets a fresh move. There is no point being a big fish in a small pond. His reasons for wanting out are totally legitimate.

Afterall I doubt he would want to be considered as a 'nearly man.' The boy has come from humble beginnings and has never been able to express his freedom properly. The bids made for him are fair all things considered. He is not a £90 million man.

That's the problem, yeah. I wouldn't do it if it was my club
I feel for Mahrez too, because he obviously would like to move on and win stuff.

Still, glad they aren't letting themselves be bullied, even if they are being greedy.

how many times do people like you need to be told this

KANTE HAD A RELEASE CLAUSE WE COULDN'T STOP HIM LEAVING

Also at the time Vardy had a release clause, it was removed when he signed a new contract ,Mahrez wanted to leave 18 months ago too, but he still happily signed a new contract and didn't insist on a release clause

Relax dude. Full in caps doesn't imply anything but your impatience and intolerance.

yes I'm intolerant of idiocy, it's about the 20th time someone has said "well they sold Kante" and his release clause was widely reported at the time of his move.

So I used bold block capitals in the hope he and other numpties that still don't understand that finally pick it up

Well , then you need to step out of this thread. This is a united forum and considering you are the only one who supports LC against 1000 other posters here, you will need to repeat same thing at times to make some people understand . If you cant, feel free to stay away. Not everyone probably reads your posts and respond !

They let Kante go though. Why double standards with Mahrez?
