Mahrez | Signed with City

Doesn't make much sense for Leicester to accept this close to the end of the window, unless they can get someone in. They're doing well, would show a lack of ambition to sell now.
And Mahrez is pretty short sighted if he signs with City. Where does he fit in when Jesus and Sane come back? Fighting with B. Silva for a spot on the bench?

Short memory. He would have regularly taken an away draw at anfield and regularly set up the same way to nick a goal from a set piece.

Isn't this basically what he tried to do at the Etihad in 2011/12 when we lost 1-0? I remember that being a pathetically dire performance with no attacking threat at all from us.

I try not to subscribe to the 'media are anti-United' talk usually because frankly every fan says the same about their own club.

However I do doubt that we will read very much, if anything at all, about the spending going on at City. It is ridiculous. We all know that they are doing this to beat the new FFP regulations, but even so I doubt that it will stop anytime soon, and fully expect them to be the largest spenders again in the summer.

Someone mentioned Foden earlier, and it's worth repeating again. That kid is an outstanding prospect but it's difficult to see him getting into this team anytime soon when they are prepared to keep adding to a bloated squad. Given how dominant they are in most games, I would find it difficult to believe that they couldn't use him in Premier League matches while Sane is out.

It's the ignoring of the youth team in this instance that I find so pathetic and sad, perfect opportunity to use a kid, but nope. What's the point of them going on about their great academy?

the entire story is BS like every other Mahrez story over the last 2 years, the basis seems to be a piece in France football picked up by the Sun, France football have ran this same story with a different team every window

I'm not a Pep fan just don't think he's the devil incarnate, nor do I think he is spending any more money than Jose would if he was at City, the entire transfer market had gone to shit after Neymar
Would you not concur that Pep inherited a superior squad at City to Jose at United?

Great post. The "Pep or money" narrative is real. Many journalists defend City's, particularly Pep' s, spending. This is hypocritical in light of the criticism Mourinho receives (see Redknapp, Sounness, et al)

With that said, it is a shame yougsters like Foden do not get a shot. I would respect City a tiny bit if they tried to develop their youngsters and integrate them into their first team. But they don't. They are a mercenary chequebook club.

Edit: bringing this full circle... mahrez would be a ridiculous buy. They don't need him. Why can't they give youth a chance in place of Mahrez? It's not like don't have talented youngsters.

Yeah I'm guessing there can't be too much in this.
It looked likely that he might leave before this season, at least he's done brilliantly again so far. I'm guessing Leicester fans are expecting Mahrez to go in the summer?

If Mahrez has any sense he'd see through the smoke and mirrors and realise he won't be a starter with everyone fit at City, and is merely being used as a stopgap toy; only to be thrown in the same pile as Danilo, Bernardo and Bravo when St Pep realises that he's disposable once Sane is back. Gladly, Sancho saw the light, and Foden and Diaz will go the same way. The Pep at City is not a manager for the youth, he merely gives that illusion.

City are the equivalent of the spoilt brat at Christmas asking for a third PS4 because he only has the one downstairs, his second one is being repaired, his PSP, DS and Wii are gathering dust as he's lost interest and he needs something to play his bedroom.

This is where @GlastonSpur 's WANT WANT WANT analogy comes in.

yeah most of us seem to think he leaves in July, personally I'm bored of the entire saga now

I know everyone wants Pulisic but we should sign Mahrez. Have Sanchez on the left and him on the the right. Either alternate Lukaku, Martial, Rashford and Ibra (in that order) or actually, play with two strikers. Lukaku has proven himself to be the better at assist (I believe, haven't looked at the number) and would do very well with Martial to the left and slightly above him. Also, Martial would thrive there, not on the wing.
-----------Martial-
--------------Lukaku---------
----Sanchez----------------Mahrez
---------Pogba---------Herrera-----
---------------Matic-------------
----Bially-----Jones-----Lindelof

With Matic, Pogba, Herrera/Fellaini there is enough defensive cover with three center backs. We could still go in for Pulisic and sell Mahrez or just actually finally have three proper wingers in the squad. A couple of the players that have served us well and proven themselves should be sold to make way for it, but not all of them considering we need depth.

Sam Lee confirmed City's interest in Mahrez though. He's got some inside info on City.

so did Arsenal based journo's with inside info, we've been through this every window since we won the league he's still here and only Roma have ever bid

Jose also went to Anfield to get a 0-0, Fergie would have been embarrassed to do that
Fergie went to the Etihad in a do or die game for the league, didn't have a shot on target and lost 1-0, which gave City all the impetus for their first league title since football began.

Don't re-write history because you don't Like Jose's tactics on big games.

He wont go, and id tell City to feck right off if they only bid 50m or whatever. If VVD is going for 75m, id want at least that.

It hurts the England team too. I rate Foden highly enough that I could see him really emerge given this period of say 6 or 7 games while Sane is out.

We could very well see a truly wonderful prospect reach his 20th birthday with less than 10 first team games to his name.

Pep has never seen a problem he couldn't buy his way out of.

All this because a player has got injured. They already have Bernardo Silva in reserve, only one of the best players in Europe last season. This is truly insane spending.

More young players need to follow Jayden Sancho’s example and leave

Pep is a genius. Of course he is, how can you possibly say he is a chequebook manager? (he says sarcastically)

£400m since the summer is it? Thats fecking ridiculous. Id win the league with City if you gave me 400m to spend ffs lol

His pr work when Sanchez rejected them was fecking hilarious, nothing to do with his financial demands. At all. He flat out rejected them for Jose.

How can he blame it on financial demands then splash out near 60m on a CB week later.:lol::lol::lol:

The England national is doomed because of moves like this, clubs would rather buy than use the youth they have at their disposal and it's a real shame.

That starting XI is unbelievably negative

Exactly, Fergie was just as pragmatic as Jose when he knew he didn't have the personnel to go toe to toe.

People just like to bash Mourinho and view Ferguson as the bastion of attacking football, who never strayed from that style.

Wonder what Bernardo Silva must be thinking. Hope for his sake he quickly moves on from there.

Anyway, apologies for de-railing. Does this all hinge on Mahrez requesting a transfer?

Fergie went to Anfield plenty of times looking to not lose. Hypothetically, If it was getting near the end of the season, Utd are top of the league and Liverpool were just behind, do you not think he would go to Anfield and look to get a point first and foremost?

He came away with plenty of draws he considered good results in his time as manager. We rarely outplayed Liverpool on their patch, such is the atmosphere in those games. Normally we'd mug them to win or get a point, and it always felt all the sweeter for it.

I don't know why every mug and his dog pretends any differently. Such revisionism.

The national team has been rubbish for the last 40+ years and Im including the " golden bunch" that came through.

Go tell that to his hairdresser.

he did that last summer
OK, was unaware of that. I don't get how this has any traction then. Why would you sell your best player a day before the window closes?

Long shot I know, but Carrasco is supposedly on the transfer list, would you swap those two? Provided you get Carrasco for cheaper than you sell Mahrez for, which I think is feasible.

Wonder what Bernardo Silva must be thinking. Hope for his sake he quickly moves on from there.

Bernardo isn't a winger. He knows when he signed with City he'll be the David Silva replacement. Just because he can play either in the AML or AMR position doesn't mean he's the most effective there.

As for Mahrez, I don't think it's going to happen. They can't spend anymore without selling players to comply with the FFP. Plus, it's almost the end of the transfer window so this screws Leicester.

The same Rashfords thinking. " Hmm competition heating up, better work harder" or something. Don't really see why everybody seems so shocked by this. Mahrez deserves to try himself at a higher level, no one else seems interested to take him.
