Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't England play mostly a 3 back system under Southgate? Seemed it was always a running gag that he played like Slabhead with United but was always excellent with the national team.I have to admit I'm kinda impressed with the way he is currently playing, seems to do well in a three at the back formation. We definitely need to keep him for now and probably next season as well.
We just bought a younger CB that's considered to be good enough and he cost more than £50mIt’s wasn’t wishful thinking. As I stated, we’ll have a player who has been one of our best performers for the past 1 and a half seasons. So that’s a win.
But if he we get an offer we can consider. I think it’s naive to rule out a club offering 20-30m for him. Doesn’t have to be only a Saudi club, could also be an Italian club who offer £20m for him as experienced CB’s are very highly rated and sought after in Serie A. If we get that offer and can replace with a younger alternative then that’s also a win.
So whatever happens. It’s a win win, as opposed to not extending his contract and losing him on free.
You’re not going to get a decent replacement for anywhere near that price. It’s wasn’t wishful thinking. As I stated, we’ll have a player who has been one of our best performers for the past 1 and a half seasons. So that’s a win.

The way PSR / FFP is getting navigated by clubs £30m can allow you to spend double or treble if you spread the cost. Now for Maguire I don’t know how it works because we paid £80m for him. That should be spread over the cost of his initial contract. You’re not going to get a decent replacement for anywhere near that price.
It’s not about PSR/FFP.The way PSR / FFP is getting navigated by clubs £30m can allow you to spend double or treble if you spread the cost. Now for Maguire I don’t know how it works because we paid £80m for him. That should be spread over the cost of his initial contract.
So it’s possible after his initial contract is over any fee counts as profit and the £80m transfer fee we paid won’t eat into the sale fee.
If it was a just a CB we needed then yes, but we need a LWB, a CM and a striker + probably another CB as well - in that scenario it just isn't feasibleThe way PSR / FFP is getting navigated by clubs £30m can allow you to spend double or treble if you spread the cost. I have never seen a player that have been condemned to death by the fans and the last manager tried his very best to get him sold. Came back from all these to be one of our most important players. Fantastic mentality.
How I hope Rashford has the same mentality and workrate.

He made most of us eat humble pie with his monumental turnaround. Not being captain and out of the spotlight made him a world of good. His biggest strength is that he's down to earth and resilient. His commitment and will can’t be questioned like others in the squad. He has made mistakes and he has limitations, but he is resilient and has fought his way back from meme status (and the pressure that comes with that) and deserves serious respect for it.

I wouldn't say that. It was 21/22 and to a lesser extent 22/23 that the fans turned on him, and he was dreadful those seasons (especially 21/22 where 'dreadful' doesn't really do it justice). Credit to him for turning it around, but he really was bad for a while there. He has always been a very good player. Even when his own fans were making fun of him, he always consistently put in good performances.
