Maguire or Lindelof: Who should be our starting CB in Varane’s absence?

Maguire out of the 2 options. Lindelof makes the entire back 4 look awful, due to his positioning and passive nature. Personally i’d like to see Jones be given a chance.

Lindelof is shite. Scared to put a foot in, back peddles all the way into yhe box. Both games vs villa he has been shown up.

”An accident waiting to happen” what the feck is Lindelöf then?
Maguire, according to most on here & pundits, whoscored etc etc, had a decent game vs. West Ham, his best of the season (which isn’t asking much), but an “accident waiting to happen” is a feeling you have, it’s nothing tangible, and it effects your appraisal of his game. I have the same with Vic, who’s been utter utter dogshit since his arrival, who can forget Huddersfield away. He’s weak as piss and passive and every time I see him I just see a defender hiding, desperate to not have to defend.

No-one can look at the West Ham game and see how important Maguire was in keeping that clean sheet and declare they can’t remember the last time he was “half decent” unless they have a massive bias against him.
So ddi you watch Maguire for Villa's first goal on Thursday. As usual he was marking no one and standing in no man's land. the disaster happened...

just what was maguire doing for Villa's first goal on thursday night? answer: nothing, as usual. standing in no man's land as ever

Axel back after Christmas, I wonder will he get a look in.

Almost certainly not, I s'pose.

Lindelof is much better than Harry. Every time Maguire is on the ball, the stadium is on the edge of their seats for all the wrong reasons.

I think Jones is a better option than both when he's taking a break from the treatment table.

If we had a single game to win tomorrow I'd be real tempted to throw Casemiro at CB and play McTominay-Eriksen in midfield, and I'm a known McTominay hater.

We really need to loan or sell Maguire in January and buy a quality CB.

Highlight of last nights game for me was the impeccable way both sets of supporters observed the laying of wreaths for our fallen soldiers. Not a sound was heard during the minutes silence and the playing of the last post brought a tear to my eyes. A beautiful moment at a football match.
Well done United and Villa.

Jones is too last minute edge of the goal throwing his body in the way.

I even did a thread about it but I wanna do something positive like a "Lee Sharpe appreciation" thread the next time if somebody hasnt done it already. Too much negativity around the CAF
How about a Gary Pallister appreciation thread, underrated player

I can agree with that too. Every man who scores 2+ more against the dippers is a f... legend (Forlan as well). And for such a big guy he had composure. Yeah I think you and I can get along

It depends on the oppostion. If you expect that United will have majority of the ball and we will not need to defend that much than its Lindeloff. If you expect we will be pushed back to our pentalty box than Maguire is the Man to defend your 6-yard box. So neither is a sustainable choice

Not the worst source:

I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. Just objectively, leaving my own opinion on the side, it feels like Maguire does not fill the requirements ETH sets up for a defender. Just like AWB. Everything indicates that ETH clearly holds Lindelof ahead of Maguire, probably by a pretty wide margin, and that if anything he is very keen to upgrade either of them. If Maguire could be moved in January for 30m it gives us much needed funds to use elsewhere, and I just don't see the point in keeping Maguire around until the summer, unless the market is totally dead for him in January.

hopefully has a reasonable world cup although I would not be surprised if he becomes the villain of England's demise, then we can get shot, Lindelof too

Do you mean we should let Malacia play on the left?

Which is worse, Maguire-Lindelof partnership, or Malacia starting, and day dreaming?

Maguire-Lindelof partnership by a country mile IMO. Far too many known flaws and limitations in those 2.

Maguire seems to be the second choice RCB and Shaw the second choice LCB. If both of them are out, Lindelof will get a look in.

Lindelof is shit but less shit and has a little bit more pace than Maguire.
My nan could go past Maguire and he'd still not be able to catch up to put in a challenge. He's just too slow.

Shaw. He’s comfortably better then both.

Sadly it looks like both Varane & Martinez are injured so one of the chuckles will have to play. Probably Maguire. But it’s a toss of a coin. They’re both massive liabilities.

Does it matter? Both are clowns that guarantee you at least 3 calamitous mustakes per game.

Our seasons turned right upside down! With either of these playing that’s gonna be a lot of points dropped. Plus with DDG not being able to kick a ball, he’ll put them straight under pressure.

With a good strength in midfield, we can try Case and Maguire at CB with Sabitzer and Eriksen in midfield and Fred and McT as options

Could Cas be moved into defence to give us the option of not playing maguire and Lindelof together?

No problem there as I don't fancy playing Lindelof alongside Malacia as that is a disaster waiting to happen.
Scotty can step into the midfield role as he has come into a bit of form recently.

Im not sure.

But if we somehow ends with Lindeløf and Malacia in the same back 4, im getting a bit worried.

Maguire has steadily improved in recent games, to the point where I'm not really jittery about him starting. He was very good yesterday. So it's mainly a question of Lindelof or Malacia really. Very hard to choose Malacia after yesterday's shitshow. He had an awful game, not just the goal, but from the very beginning.

I suppose Dalot at LB and Shaw in the middle could also be an option.

Maguire's performance was fine overall. Just that he seems to have stinking luck with these own goals.
