You first made the ridiculous claim. Anyone who bothers to read the last 40 posts in order will see that.

1 - do you genuinely not think that clip falling onto the ball shows a mistake?
2 - do you genuinely not think Chris Smalling has made 5 mistakes throughout his whole career?

Do people really think that 5 mistakes are something special? Rio in his prime probably made at least 10 mistakes per season.
I sometimes wonder if the quality of defenders hasn't reduced as much as stated, but just that defenders are now analysed in more detail than ever before.

I personally believe the Maguire is better than Smalling, who is better than Jones and Rojo.
Maguire would improve our starting 11, yes it is crazy money, but the market is also crazy.
He’s good in the air in both boxes, brings the ball out of defence well, has a decent passing range for a CB, and can of course defend too. Granted, his positional play may be put to the test in the Champions League when we’re under the pump, and he needs pace alongside him.
We won’t win the league starting Smalling, Jones or Rojo at CB every game. With Maguire, we would at least stand a better chance and it is a step in the right direction.
I’d keep Smalling in the squad as he’s decent, as well as Bailly and Lindelof, but not too fussed about Jones or Rojo.
Slabhead would become a fans favourite. I’m fairly sure of it.
Exactly. Apparently we're meant to be signing defenders who never make mistakes, and are perfect in every game, shame those players don't exist.
A bit of both. Defending doesnt seem to be appreciated like it was in the past but players are under a microscope more than ever before

Conversely our defenders don't make a lot of mistakes, they are pretty clean at the exception of Bailly and Rojo who both gamble a lot but you need defenders with aggression too, it's all about recognizing it and covering for them. If you look at Maguire's game against Tottenham, if it was Smalling he would be lambasted even though it wasn't a bad game, on several occasion you can see that he lacks agility and anticipation the third goal conceded is an example of it, you could easily see it as a mistake.
Maguire is not foreign so that’s a big problem. If Maguire was French and Alderweireld English you’d get a completely different perspective on these players.

Tactically football is different, defenders are more exposed because teams are often less compact, so it's easier to point the finger at a particular player without considering that football is played in team and that if a defender is in a really bad situation something else might have created it.
Well I can name about 10 French CBs who are better than Maguire who are around Maguire's age or younger.

We need a decent header of the who's also good at passing. Smalling is good at the former, but not so good at the latter. Alderweireld is decent at the latter, but is lacking at the former.
Maguire is good at both. He's the best option to complete our defensive unit.

If Maguire was French he'd be a £30 million CB and nobody would be against signing him.

So many "support" United as a symptom or consequence for their die-hard fanaticism for individual players.
personally I would stop at 4, Umtiti, Laporte, Varane and Kimpembe. I suspect that some would put Abdou Diallo, Lenglet and Pavard but that's premature.
Though in theory, Koulibaly and Benatia are french.

I am interested too. Although I can't see how we would differentiate considering that even with Mcguire we are going on a few snippets in the WC and some bits in the league. Elite scouting teams don't have an easy tié of it so I doubt we would fare much better. I doubt we have even heard let alone seen the players that may be obscure to us all things considered in that league.
I really do not think Maguire has shown as much as those guys so far so I would not say it is premature. And there is also guys like Gnangon, Dayot, Mukiele.
If I put Gnagnon and Mukiele, Harry will have every right to headbutt me.
