Maguire | he stays!

He'd leave if somebody matched his wages. Thats the big stumbling block

I am not sure he would. I think he enjoys all the prestige that comes with being the captain of a club like United. The only way, career wise, is down, and he knows it.

He is clinging on and convincing himself he can fight his way back, and I think he honestly believes he can do it, the way he has talked about his clean sheets and United needing a squad.

I don’t think we should treat him like dirt, but I think the captaincy needs to be taken from him and he needs to be told that he won’t play at all.

Hopefully, the fear of missing out on another tournament with England will be enough for him to accept that it’s over.

Have they taken the club captaincy from him yet?

That was so embarrassing last season to see him coming on for the dying minutes in a game and take the arm band from Bruno instead of focusing on the job he was being brought on to do.

Don't really care.

He shouldn't be the club captain anymore.. barely plays..

Varane, Lindelof as RCB
Martinez, Lindelof, Shaw as LCB

Maguire will be the 3rd choice RCB/4th choice LCB.
If he doesnt go, he stays on and doesnt get any minutes. If he goes, we sign a backup, ideally someone who can challenge for varanes spot , but I dont think this is a priority.

The new CB will cost more than Maguires fee anyway.. this won't affect the rest of the transfer dealings in any way..

He can't remain captain but I don't think that will bother him, he will get a few minutes now and again, he will be first choice for Southgate and he will get paid a shit load of money whilst sitting on the bench.

Can't really knock the guy as he's has got a nice deal over here so there's no reason for him to leave really, If the club want him gone then they need to pay him off.

He's going nowhere lads. We need the Saudis to offer him stupid wages to get rid, because no one in Europe is dumb enough to pay him what we are currently offering. We'll done Ed Woodward

If he can get back to his form from the first two seasons at United, he'd make a decent 3rd or 4th choice CB.

But I think his reputation amongst the fans makes his position here untenable. It's sad that it turned out this way because he's really not as bad as the memes make him out to be. But unfortunately the memes are what matter.

If we take this logic, no top club would ever be able to sell any of their unwanted players. And yet they do.

Most footballers want to play football.

Take the captaincy from him, and have him train with the reserves. He'll soon find himself a club.

That was playing counter-attacking underdog football under Ole. He is a liability in team whose manager wants to play a high line, high pressing game. He just doesn't fit tactically, like de Gea. Both major problems.

He needs to be publicly pushed if he's resisting a move.

If he does end up staying just needs to not get picked for matchday squads, end of. Chap can train all he likes. Eventually Southgate might stop being a wet the bed and not pick him for future squads.

I used to try and understand his stance, and I really never tend to give up on players, but WTF man. I don't get it at all. As it stands he's probably ETH's 5th choice CB at this point. Show some spine and leave for pete sake.

Listen babe, it's not you, it's us.

I mean, we love you, we're just not In love with you.

Guy came in for the Sevilla games because Martinez and Varane got injured and the end result was a late own goal in the first leg and a catastrophic mistake early in the second, culminating in us being knocked out.

You can't be a backup when you're prone to disaster like Maguire.

I hope he just leaves. I read the thread title "Maguire Out" and can't help but add on "...please?" in my head.

It's just posturing. He knows he's gone. He just wants United to give him a pay off. I'm assuming he's already spoken to another club and they're encouraging him to do this too so that it gives both the player and the buyers extra leverage. United will be playing the game themselves. I'd assume this latest briefing is a signal to other clubs that we'd prepare to use these players as make-weights. The Chris Wheeler report about Maguire being up for sale for £40m and McTominay for the same fee is probably about us preparing a bid for Rice and going in with 20m plus these two.

i often wonder what his training regime involves because it's obviously not sprinting, passing or tackling although i'll grant you, he's excellent at pointing and shouting. maybe he helps out in the canteen as well, takes the bins out - the sort of thing that shows he 'leads by example.'
either way, he was given a lot of latitude by ETH last season but he knows his position is untenable at united now because his manager doesn't rate him and he commands zero respect from his team mates. is he really going to Rodwell through the rest of his contract?

As long as he keeps getting picked for England I think he will stay put unless he can keep his wage demands somewhere else.

No need to slag off Maguire or the club.

If nobody bids for Harry then there is no decision to make for anyone.

Probably the most awkward captain situation since Rooney years ago when he was clearly declining. At least Rooney made it awkward because he was a legend so it felt wrong to take the armband off him or to force him out. In the case of Maguire it's awkward because he's so shite compared to other options that it's a joke he was still the captain. The other players must be giggling a little bit when he comes on and takes the armband almost immediately..

The club really should announce Bruno as new club captain. Maybe that's what it takes to get the wheels in motion.

Bin this guy off. If he doesn't get the hint, tell him straight he's nowhere near a United player standard, even as a bench option.

He obviously wants to stay and fight for his place. If there aren’t any credible offers for him then I’m not sure why people are slagging him off? He can’t force another team to bid for him.

For some people, hating Maguire has become a religion, and like with all religions, rationality doesn’t really come into it. They desperately want him gone but at the same time they refuse to believe that any other club could want him.

Nah. We're way past that.

He's 5th choice behind Varane, Martinez, Lindelof and fecking Luke Shaw who's not even a CB, and we're actively in the market for a new CB.

There's no fighting left to be done.
He's lost. Move on Harry.

Obviously we’ll just have to support him for another year as no other clubs are keen on him in lieu of a permanent deal. Plus if you consider his salary, loaning him out seems very unlikely.

I think most are generally disappointed having hoped they’d be some activity in the transfer window.
We’re all starved of anything positive happening right now, so even a glimmer of good news would be welcomed.

I would hope that it has been made clear to Maguire that he won't get playing time except for any injuries and that if he values his England spot, he needs to move.

Of course I guess this would also be dependent on the team sourcing an adequate depth player.

Absolutely. I find it weird that a player saying, “I want to stay and fight for my place here at the club”, leads people to hate on the player. Surely the onus is on the club to move them on or make it untenable for them to stay

He may not see things that way though, it’s easy for you to admit defeat for him….you’re not in his position.
Anyway, I think your views on the subject are probably a little extreme…..
Getting rid of Harry would be like signing Mbappe.

There will be offers for Maguire. Hes a good defender. He plays for England and he works well in a team that isn't looking to play on the front foot. The issue will be our valuation and his current wages.

A serious player would have been sounding out potential clubs when he'd been dropped to 5th choice CB during the season. I don't think he has any urgent desire to leave.

What place? He had a year to fight for his place, failed. Time to move on.
