Television Mad Men | SPOILERS

I guess that's true, but some of the things Don does are totally shitty beyond belief. At the end he does have redeeming features that keep bringing us round to him.

I certainly wouldn't have him down as the hero of the show and I never really routed for him at any point. I hope they bring Peggy back for the last two series as she for me was the person you most wanted to succeed in the show.

Peggy used to be the shows most redeeming character with the fewest faults, but they're basically turning her into a female version of Don in later series.

Pete Campbell is a brilliant character and I think casted and acted very well. Stiff, uncomfortable, snobby, and about every other spoiled rich kid in business. As for Don, I think not only is he a brilliant character but acted perfectly.

A couple other favorites: Joan (and not just I think she's hot) and Roger. A couple I could do without, the man in charge of TV (can't remember his name right now) and Cooper.

I think the few occasions she was a bitch or a hardass they were justified. Off the top of my head;

-Standing up her fiance and family for her birthday dinner. He was a prick and was going to try to control her.
- Firing the freelancer who was making fun of Joan - Essentially she put herself in shit with her co-workers and lost a friend because she was trying to do the right thing.
- Moving on to another company. - I think Don chucking the money in her face and everyone going to Ginsberg over her was the last straw.

What are you thinking Scrumpet? Is she coming back to SCDP or will she be an on-off character still with the other agency?

Yeah I expect she'll be at a rival agency, at least for a while. It'll be hard for the writers to keep her involved without it seeming too contrived though.

If there's another two series you could see her coming back to SCDP within a few episodes otherwise I don't know how they can keep involving her unless it comes down to some big battle between herself and Don for lots of business. As you say though that will be really contrived.

Finished watching it. It was slightly boring for me. I see they are still heavily pushing the "Who is Don Draper" leitmotif.

Good opening episode I thought, most of the storylines were strong, except "Betty in the city". Roger is still about my favourite character on TV.

Don at the funeral was brilliant. And Betty's rape joke:wenger:

Jesus yeah, that Betty joke about the daughters friend was fecking sick, but she's always been a bit of a twisted puppy for years even going back to how she was with that young lad giving him some of her hair.

Also, she's still fat :(

Thought Peggy was great and the integration with her new office was well done and didn't seem forced.

Yep. Overtly sexual with Glen and then that talk last night puts her firmly in the pervert category. (if she'd fit)

No, as handsome as he is he's no Don Draper. Woman need to drop at his feet when they first meet him for the dynamic to be work.

I think that watching this episode made me realize that the parts of the show I
don't like now outweigh the parts that I do.

Don being selfish? Check.
Pete doing anything at all? Check.
Fat Betty? Check.
Pretentious Don underlings? Check.
That fecking wanker Harry? Check.

I wonder how many times it says in the script "Don silently stares in reply". You just can't have a conversation with the man.
