Woodward is a clever guy. He knows there's only one manager left with a good trophy record but fans are divided in their opinions towads him. So,
Step 1 - Let the situation get worse and worse.
No harm cause financially we can take a hit and it'll maintain our image of not being a trigger happy club, also LVG is his friends, as per the reports.
Step 2 - Let fans get restless and want a quick return to winning ways in any way possible.
Step 3 - Hire Mourinho with no objection and blessings from all over the world.

There's no other reason for LVG to still be employed.

If VG was a surgon he would have said, hey my methods are working despite 400 patients have died because of my methods lol

Do you really think Woodward gives a rats ass what the fans think of him?

Should've pulled the trigger way back when there was a hope to salvage something out of this season. It was very clear to see this guy was passed it and his methods were outdated, aren't suited to the PL or any other competition and aren't working out.

Now instead of just Van Gaal getting the chop a lot more heads should get the chop along with him as well.

Big clubs don't act like the way we do/did. We always talk like a big club but i'm afraid we aren't acting like one.

Who do you hire for the remainder of the season? Mou said he will start only in the summer.

Van Gaal isn't going anywhere.

Any club would be mental to change manager with 9 games to go sitting in 6th a couple of wins off 4th. And I doubt there would be many top managers that would want to take it on either.

Van Gaal would have to resign, but to be fair, we're out of Europe, but still in the FA cup and 6th in the league, the old bastard will still point to this as a success. And while Old Trafford aren't showing any dissent, why should he leave, the rest is just press hostility regardless of how much we complain on here.

Were in a fecked up position tbh.

Giggs shouldnt be our manager.
LVG is terrible.
Jose will bring us short term success but theres no guarantee what will happen after a year or two (its not a long term solution)

Looking at the managers available, I dont think theres a realistic long term solution for us.

LVG should have been sacked in December, when the season was still salvageable. We could have made the top 4 had we done it and we should have brought in Jose then.
Its the Moyes situation again, we will react when its too late rather than being proactive like a Chelsea/Madrid type team.

His record would not have been acceptable at top teams like Madrid/Bayern/Barca
It wouldnt have been acceptable at second tier teams like Chelsea/City/PSG.
Its bonkers its still being allowed here.

I bet LVG is gonna feck the FA Cup up for us too ffs...

In my books that ship had sailed already. The easiest run to final with all the big guns knocked out. And again he failed. Just like his failure to get out of the easiest CL group imaginable.

Or maybe Ed is busy getting that toothbrush and toilet cleaner deals going...

According to several reports in the media, Giggs doesn't want to take an interim manager's job. It's either full time, or none at all, so we can discount that option.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/article4695110.ece

This is the time where he needs to suck it up for the team. If there was anyway he can generate an improvement when we can (though unlikely) get into the top 4 and progress in the FA Cup, Giggs needs to step up and take the interim job. LVG clearly is done and just hanging on. If Giggs is too effin scared to show his worth over this important stretch run and only wants to take over if the job is handed to him then legend or not, he needs to take a flying feck somewhere else to prove his mettle.

It's like buying a bottle of champagne, opening it up, and finding that there's piss inside. But instead of going back to the shop and replacing it you've instead sat watching it for an hour and a half whilst drawing in your colouring book and high-fiving the piss as you slowly pour it onto the floor.

And then someone realises that the bottle used to contain champagne but you had emptied it out earlier and replaced it with said piss. But it's too late, because before they can ask you to leave you've already put your coat on and walked away leaving long streaky piss stains sinking deeper and deeper into the carpet.
This analogy deserves a thread of it's own :)

Most open, easiest League to win in memory sure someone will correct me
Untold chances, offered on a plate, wasted to at least get 3rd or even 4th
Easiest CL group for at least 10 years
Best chance missed to progress in easiest FA cup last 4 I can remember

4 sackable offences right there!

Why is this clown still in charge of my club?

I've resisted saying it but he's needs to go at the end of the season. A shame it didn't work out.

Just watched the replay.

So is that it then? Have this lot just completely dropped tools and clocked off for the season? The going got tough and they threw in the towel and have given up? What an absolutely awful display in the second half, embarrassing to besmirch the Manchester United name with such filth in lack of trying to score goals. I am completely convinced that the "boss the dressing room is flat" was really a coverup for "pack your things Louis, we're making sure you don't get to a third season" because that performance was absolutely dire. Borderline sabotage.

The one thing that fascinated me however that despite Fellaini seemingly having nothing to play for but his pay cheque (lost the match day fans, lost the fans in general) still puts in the best shift of the lot. What an absolutely disgraceful display.

Because Ed Woodward and the Glazers are in charge and they love the look of LVG's balls or some other reason which cannot possibly grasped by stupid (but still paying) fans like you and me.

I was awake well past midnight to see the match but apart from standing in the opposition half 'trying' to play, what else did Fellaini do to warrant your compliment? Each one of them were as bad as the guy next to them. The only person who could come out with his head held high is DDG and to a certain extent Martial.

Walk out on the pitch really, play like he actually gives a shit about the situation we're in at the very minimum. The fans have made it perfectly clear that he is not welcome, any coming back from that giving 100% warrants praise. The guy is probably the only one worthy of downing tools in his situation, the fans don't like him, the fans don't want him.

No one, and I literally mean no one, has the rights to down his tools or not giving his best. Fellaini was decent in the first half but like the rest of the outfield just didn't do enough in the second half. Walking off the pitch with head shaking or seething does not mean anything when the last 90 mins on the pitch you didn't show the hunger. You think we found about Keane's passion by his expressions off the pitch or his performances on it?

Just sack him and all his coaching staff. We need new blood

By look, I meant play.

Well, in that case, you and I probably watched different matches because Fellaini was as dire as the rest. In fact his lack of tracking back was appalling all game - which is now a trademark of his play - and one of the reasons why Carrick was left all alone in midfield again.

Sorry, he really wasn't. Think I was watching the actual game, anyway this is the LVG out thread. I've said my piece on LVG and the contrasting performance levels of the main players and Fellaini. That is done and I am moving on.

He's laying foundations, we should not expect results or good performances from him. All his work is behind the scenes.

Don't think you were watching the game at all in that case.

Oh yes, the arguments about foundations. Was it not LVG who said when he started his United tenure that he is here to win and not to lay foundations?

He is letting the players experience the pain of defeat so that they will be hungrier under his successor.

Saw a quote on here somewhere (can't remember where now) from Klopp saying that he was briefly approached about the position before Moyes was handed the keys to the kingdom. He said that he had no choice but to turn it down as the approach was too late – by April he was already in the middle of his plans for the following season at Dortmund.

Isn't this the best reason to get rid of LvG immediately? It should have happened long ago around about the Swansea game in the Xmas fixture debacle really in my opinion. That way whoever comes in would get a head start. An interim manager is a waste of time too … unless we're really waiting out the gardening leave clause in Mo's contract.

For me, the really depressing thing is that it's just humiliation after humiliation but we know nothing will happen.

Van Gaal will continue spouting his nonsense and blundering from catastrophe to catastrophe and Woodward will continue doing and saying nothing.

We're even past the stage of being a laughing stock - people just shake their heads and wonder how it's been allowed to get to this stage.

The end is in sight - only 10 games to go now (assuming the replay at Upton Park goes to form). Just acknowledge that we aren't getting top 4 (and maybe not top 5 either) and we won't win the cup and try to watch other games (like Bayern v Juve the other night) to remind yourself what real football looks like.

Because the club don't want to pay the huge payout required to get rid?

I dunno myself either, it's a puzzle to me. I just can't stand what we've become under him, I don't even think it's his tactics any more, the players aren't good enough. He's just as culpable for that, as he is the tactics though. So whatever way you look at it, he's failed badly.

Get rid please United.

Yes, maybe better just to not watch Utd games until the season is over - I now feel absolutely nothing watching them anyway - well, nothing but frustration and anger............

At the end of the day, I guess we can extrapolate that the board/Woodward wanted to give the manager the chance to turn it around and in truth, we could jammy fourth place and that would be hilarious. Both in the miracle of our own volition and what would be City missing out. There was no harm in that, the time to realistically sack him was December, no question about that. But for whatever reason we didn't.

I am convinced the players have not been playing for LVG for a long time. We just have to sit tight until the end of the season, switch off emotionally. It sucks but we're on a hiding to nothing getting heavily invested in this with Van Gaal. He just doesn't get this club, the fans and the footballing landscape. He brought his Flatpack Philosophy and tried to set it up and it wouldn't stand up. Short of scratching his head and being out of ideas there is not much we can do but wait until he leaves.

It wouldn't be a huge payout, there's only one year left on his contract. It'd be literally only peanuts to Utd.
