Did he try to play him in other positions? Yes, as a right winger. Didn't work.

Is he a CM, as much as Mata is a CM.

5 players are above him in the pecking order due to Pereira's inability to play in other positions.

Having also made mata our recent captain , replacing him with Pereira is stupid in the current games especially the games against liverpool, City & west ham which are must wins.

We need to have CM's injured and CAM's injured for Pereira to get a game where he can be influential. Otherwise someone like Herrera will have to suffice for our upcoming important games .

Also to the guys craving my sweet and sour balls, I said injury which mata has hardly had game off for.
So you're betting your balls he will play Pereira if Mata is injured but admit that there in fact needs to be 5 players injured and specific situations before he will get a game. You don't value your balls much do you? You also seem to have a flagrant disregard for basic logic.

I don't need to when I have people doing that for me.

A lot of people applaud LVG for his youth policy but would the likes of Varela, Rashford, Blackett, Bojack etc been given chances had it not been for our injury crisis? I mean, let's take Rashford as an example as it is the most recent. Would he have got a look in had Rooney still been fit? I doubt it. This surge of youngsters coming through seems more like the will of good timing rather than a choice...

Indeed. Three weeks ago when Rashford was banging the goals in and his inclusion was looking like a stroke of genius, the seemingly overly-thin squad we started the season with was, according to Van Gaal, the result of a deliberate strategy to ensure the young players were given a chance:

"The policy is to have a small selection so you can give youngsters a chance. Thanks to my policy and the club who approved it, Rashford is there and it's the same with Borthwick-Jackson and Varela."

Now results and form have once again collapsed Van Gaal has started bemoaning the paucity of options available for his selection (three days ago):

"When you don’t have too many players and you have to play in three competitions it is very difficult to play."

It's all just bullshit, taking personal credit for every success and deflecting blame for the frequent failures. There's no grand over-arching plan in action here. Egocentric self-serving drivel, that's Van Gaal's real philosophy.

You lot are just spouting as much shit as LVG is. People have been saying about his youth implications and policies even before he joined United; yet when it happens all of it is by chance and by bullshit.

Just admit it. You want him gone and for that reason the youth he is trying to facilitate is of minute importance to you.

I'd like him to stay until January because the youth thing is important to me.

Everyone including me is just arguing on top of their chosen stool without the willingness to get out.

Enjoy the rest of the season peeps. I'm out this thread x

Van Gaal taking the credit (as usual) following Rashford's debut:

"In the first half he ran too much, too much on the sidelines, and I said at half-time, 'You have to be within the width of the goal and you shall score,' and you see he scores two goals, it is fantastic for him."

A couple of games later and he's stuck wide right. The poor kid was practically playing wingback vs Liverpool. Rashford will hopefully heed the advice of one senior player at the club who reportedly told him to ignore Van Gaal and his brainwashing nonsense.

Thats a horrible read.

Are you saying LVG had a master plan to get our whole team injured so that he can play the youngsters?

If the injuries came and LVG played the youth as option B, fair enough. But his plans B and C were to do inexplicable things first such as changing formations match to match or using players out of position over and over. The likes of Wilson, Pereira, Varela should have had ample opprtunity earlier in the season but he would instead choose Fellaini upfront or Young at LB. It was really only when we were so crushed with injuries and he had no other option could you say he really gave the younger players a chance.

And of course, he just can't help but go back to his tinkering, playing them out of position and changing formations yet again. The sum of it all is that everything just feels so scattershot and lacking in a real plan. Somestimes it works, most times it doesn't.

Palermo has changed managers 8 times since the start of the season  Where's Zamparini when you need him, eh?

Louis van Gaal knows Manchester United “have to deliver” if they are to overcome a first-leg loss and keep their European dream alive against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s men make the short trip for the return leg of this Europa League last-16 tie boasting a 2-0 lead – a scoreline that would have been a lot worse for United had it not been for an inspired David de Gea display.

The inability to net an away goal at Anfield has made Thursday’s task even tougher for Van Gaal’s side as they look to upset the odds and secure a memorable comeback under the Old Trafford lights.

“I think the challenge to beat Liverpool and the challenge that we are two goals down is a big challenge,” Van Gaal said.

“We have to believe in it and it starts with the players, of course, but it starts also with the fans. The fans have a lot of impact on the pitch.

“I have spoken only with the players about the victory and we have to believe in it.”

Asked if United owe their fans a big display, the Dutchman said: “Yes, but we owe always to the fans a big result because the fans are paying to see that.

“We have to deliver, but in sport you can lose and you can win. It’s very difficult but you have to accept that.

“But (on Thursday) we only have to think we have to beat Liverpool and we have beat them 2-0 – not with 3-0 because we can do that also in extra time.

“We have to do it in 90 minutes, 2-0, then we have the chance to beat them and go to the next round.

“You know that we have scored goals within three or four minutes this season, so it is possible.”

Van Gaal pointed to the 5-1 victory at home FC Midtjylland in the previous round when asked if they had the wherewithal to score the four required should Liverpool grab an away goal on Thursday.

The Dutchman says United are thinking about “making goals” rather than conceding them and hopes the home fans can create an impressive atmosphere like that seen at Anfield last week.

“I am very satisfied about the fans because the results what we have achieved this season are not the results the fans are thinking that we have to fulfil,” Van Gaal said.

“We don’t fulfil the expectations and still they support this team and this manager. But the most important thing is this team. That’s the main thing.

“We need their support also because their impact is big. The atmosphere at Anfield was a big impact also.”

Ashley Young and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are unlikely to play a part despite training on the eve of the match, but Juan Mata is available having missed the FA Cup draw with West Ham through suspension.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is not deemed fit enough to start, so Marouane Fellaini – whose substitution on Sunday was cheered by disgruntled United fans – could continue his record of starting for United against Liverpool.

“I cannot say if he will play (on Thursday) because then I give part of my line-up and I don’t want to do that,” Van Gaal said.

“Fellaini has his way of playing and he can give us a lot of qualities. He has contributed to a lot of games in a very good way.

“For me, it’s very important if he can contribute in the game-plan that we have created with each other. That’s the main thing.

“When I put a player in a line-up, then I think he can do better than other players in that position.

“That’s why I select players for the line-up. If Fellaini is selected you shall see in the line-up.”

I knew this thread would be bumped the moment we saw the team selection:lol:

When we were Kings.

That's an insane playing cast, Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Berbatov, Scholes in there.

Makes you weep for today!

i think I was coming back from my other boys Wycombe playing Port Vale that day, and getting the updates on the phone. Incredible scenes.

I find it hard to believe he was a great manager once. Maybe he's completely lost it with age?

How can a someone just repeatedly make such dumb decisions?

I hate him so much, the team he has put out says it all. I wonder who's fault it will be after tonight, going to get embarrassed by a very average side. Fellaini and Carrick again, a half fit Schweinsteiger is better than that two put together never mind Schneiderlin. We are not even being given a chance to get through. I hope the supporter's turn on him so bad tonight. He's a fecking joke

He must have Woodward nudes, he's literally worse than Moyes.

Woodward shouldn't be worried if he does. LVG prefers to keep possession of balls, instead of actually doing anything useful with them.

The day he's gone will be a huge relief. 2 straight managers that were absolutely useless.

Can't stand Fellaini!! Our manager is clueless. Wtf does he write in his notes?

He's the exact opposite of what I thought he would be when he first came. I thought he'd be a wily, tacically astute manager who focuses on attacking football.

Then you see Fellaini in a midfield two...

He claims and many do he was one of the guys behind Barcelona's dynasty in terms of the way they play and the youth coming through, and then he keeps picking fellaini, hmmmm. The so called mastermind behind Bayerns rise to dominance, and then he keeps picking fellaini, hmmm. Tell me, what is he trying to create long term at united? when I see fellaini in a midfield 2

The speech for his post match presser. So infuriating.

Thank God i am working. Won't be able to stand seeing Liverpool piss all over United's midfield.
