This the fundamental issue right now.
The Glazers lack of football knowledge and their missguided faith in Fergie led to a decision that haunts the club to this very day. They saw fit to entrust David Moyes, despite his clear lack of managerial experience at the highest level, with the day to day running of one of the biggest clubs on the planet. Following a glowing endorsement by perhaps the greatest manager in the history of the game, how could the decision be incorrect? The infallible SAF simply cannot be wrong, afteral he did win them 10 something trophies since their takeover - plus countless others prior to their arrival - so it stands to reason that this is a man more than capable of choosing his own successor. In Fergie we trust. Naive and foolish Mr Glazer.
Of course in hindsight it was the worst decision in the clubs history and the Glazers, aware of their disasterous mistake in appointing David Moyes, went for the far safer option allowing LVG to secede him. Good appointment at the time, I applauded it myself and had full faith that he would eventually turn the club around and steer us in the right direction. Wrong again. We are at best in a stagnated position, it could be argued that we are even worse off in light of the money spent on transfers and the like. I wouldn't call the LVG appointment a mistake on the boards behalf, more a failure by a man who should have done far better with the near limitless resources he had at his disposal. LVG has no excuse and if harbors any form of self-respect he should resign with dignity before he is sacked. Don't hold your breath though.
The next appointment is anyones guess. I have little to no faith in the board right now, that includes two genuine icons of the club; SAF and Sir Bobby Charlton. Personally I would go for Jose, partly due to the lack of other options but also because he is, despite what his haters may think, in the mould of Fergie himself - a genuine winner at heart and a proper leader of men - something our club is crying out for at this point in time.
