It's not entirely his fault though, if Fergie and Charlton would stop wanting their boy Giggs in and scuppering the Jose idea this power struggle wouldn't be happening either. I don't care how goofy Woodward seems at times he can't think LvG will turn this around and LvG offering to resign 3 times suggests he knows he can't turn it around, so him staying on seems linked to Woodward wanting to avoid Giggs getting in and he's right to do that IMO.

I suspect some want Giggs (Fergie's lot) and the others...Jose.

Even if Woody had Pep or another replacement for next season, it makes no sense to keep a manager who has lost it completely. We are capable to find a man to take over for the remaining part of the season and announce the new manager who will take over in the summer.

Woodward also wanted time to digest the defeat and assess the situation because he is keen to avoid having to appoint a manager in the middle of the season. Woodward would much rather wait until the summer to make that decision

Having to change managers in the middle of the season is never ideal, but surely it's a much better option than persisting with Van Gaal when it's clear for all to see he's incapable of turning things around?

I don't think its that hard to figure out what's going on. Woodward can't afford to lose Van Gaal because he was his appointment. He'd lose a lot of face and trust in the boardroom if his man were to quit. This has nothing to do with anyone coming in. It certainly has nothing to do with Guardiola who is going to City. Don't delude yourself into thinking that he isn't. This is about Woodward wanting to remain in power until summer where Van Gaal can resign/retire and we get Mourinho or Giggs.

Offering to resign isnt a thing. That would be mutual consent.
Just resign if you want. You dont need Ed to agree

He is the boardroom with Joel Glazer, so no it's not about losing face. It's pure delusion.

If LvG leaves in the summer it's the same thing - not fulfilled his contract and we can get Mourinho or Giggs now

If Giggs doesn't want the interim job, Mourinho doesn't want to take over a team mid season and Guardiola "isn't available until the summer" who would we put in charge for the rest of the season?

Sack him and have no manager and no plan?

I just don't get the logic - we simply won't get into CL if we stick with LVG

Actually you can't unilaterally resign when you have a contract with finite duration, well you can but you won't be able to seek for a new job and the employer can demand compensation.

So he has been judged on a game-by-game basis since Stoke away one month ago and now the fans have completely snapped. It unsustainable and Woodward needs to realise that.

Valid point.

Nobody wants the job. Not even the current manager

I am thinking LvGs family is wondering how they can free Louis from Woodward. The bastard is holding him hostage.

On a serious note; if LvG wants to resign, he would have done it by now. The man is in charge of himself. I refuse to believe Woodward has talked him in three times.

So Woodward wants to stick with LvG, not buy any players in January, and then wing it until the summer praying that we somehow get top 4, then and only then will he consider making a change, but even then it's not certain....

I can soon see a change of direction for the who the home crowd will be targeting with their boos, if LvG wants to walk just let him, by all accounts it isn't the first time he's asked to go either.

If true, and three times he's offered to, it's probably a case of it being far too late to sack him. He should have been sacked in December, but it's gotten to the stage where you're at the end of the transfer window and looking just as uninspiring. Not pretty.

If it goes on like this, I fear a lot of people will completely lose it. Including me.

I know and Ed surely realises that the fans are not happy, if the results continue as they are and we miss out on CL never mind the style of play. Important decisions have to be made and a third wrong one is going to look really bad, they've got to get it right this time and they're going to make sure they do and take as much time as they can.
Time is now running out and the decision has to be taken this week

Only person to blame then is Ed. The more I think about it, the more I feel he's rotten to the core. An accountant who thinks in percentages and the bottom line. Can't run a football club to save his life.

Anyone checked his daughter date of birth, I think that we have a runner

Louis clearly wants to be sat by the pool at his Portuguese villa. Let him go Woody you heartless bastard.

I can't see what is in it for Woodward - so, he doesn't want to be associated with hiring a failure - but this is going from bad to worse, thus he's being indelibly associated with failure. Maybe he has an accumulator on how many times LVG will offer to go.

I think I need to forget about this club for a few months. This shit is depressing.

I actually feel sorry for LVG a bit, if this is true. He's trying to go with honour and Woodward is keeping him in the firing line. Van Gaal has given him every opportunity to part ways; Van Gaal has clearly accepted he can't do anything more.

Just let the guy leave with his honour intact you tool, because things could turn ugly for him if not and I'm not convinced he's the one that should be getting the supporters wrath anymore.

As much as I want him gone, that's a good post.

Aye, it seems like LVG is trying to do the right thing and knows he's been shite, but the club is being just as terrible in this absolute shambles of a situation (assuming it's true).

LVG wanted to walk from Vitesse as well after a very poor season. That time he was talked into staying and they won the title in the next season.

True story.
