7 points off the top. If we can use this win to get into something resembling good form then the title is there for the taking.

Its the hope that kills you. We will be right back to where we were next week. This win was yet another case of a false dawn and just papering over the cracks. Enjoy it for the week and next week we will see the grim reality facing us.

Steady on now Akash, I admire your spirit but we still kind of suck balls to be honest, I will be very pleased if we get 4th.

Stop being miserable or at least wait until we feck up against Southampton!

Today is not the day for this.

Winning against Liverpool is an amazing feeling.
Winning against Liverpool, whilst being utter toilet, is better than sex.

Enjoy the moment lads. Time for more pints

Look he left Fellaini on (I don't think many would have done), who had the great header onto the bar which led to our goal. Not the time to bash LVG.

I might even change my vote....

Im not happy with it but this isnt a full LVG team by any standard. Anyone who knows his teams & his influence knows what players need replacing. TBH theres no need to replace but just add.

There's alot of expectations on this team (rightly so) but we are trying to play like an organised team without an organised squad.

Well it's all bit late then isn't it really, we are not getting anyone of note this window, and to attract decent players in the summer could be quite tricky if they know LvG is in the last year of his deal.

If he is work is to come to fruition then we would surely need to get a manager in who will carry on his work, and that is by no means guaranteed, this all comes back to the point of that it's pretty pointless carrying on with LvG beyond this season.

Great to beat Liverpool but a lot of this game was depressing. It's probably the worst two teams I've ever seen play one of these games. We managed one shot on target.

Hopefully Woodward and co are at least looking for a replacement. LVG has done a horrific amount of damage here

Nah. 7 points off two different teams and 6 points of another. We need to catch up 3 teams not just one and we can't string more than a couple of wins together.

I believe that he should be sacked if he fails to achieve a top 3 finish or a cup win. Considering the money spent and the time he has had with the team it is not good enough to finish in the same position as last year or worse. However, I really don't think he is going to be sacked unless finishing in the top 4 becomes impossible. If Guardiola really is holding out for the United job than there is nobody more suited to continuing Van Gaal's rebuilding job.

He knows how to get enough results to save his job. We were still awful to watch. Pretty much just accepting that he'll be here until his contract runs out now.

Was it at AZ where he was nearly sacked but the players wanted him to stay and then they went on to win the league in the same season? Now imagine if history repeats a second time here

He wasn't almost sacked but he himself wanted to quite because they didn't do as good as it was expected.

I like Louis, wanted him here, respect his achievements, and think he often gets an unfair rap (especially from equally-outspoken fellow professionals); but the football is dreadfully dull and that was the last thing we needed post-Moyes. It's got to the point where I'd want him to retire even if he wins the title...which is very unfair, really, but that's how drab I find our play now. Oh, and we're still in need of a clearout.

He really has gone to war with them.

:lol::lol: Brilliant

I think we'll be stuck with him at least until the end of the year, unless - like Moyes we can't make top 4.
I don't really care about the quality of football at this point.

I'd hate for us to become a club that sacks managers at will even if we're playing badly.
We've always prided ourselves on having more morals than the likes of Chelsea & Madrid, and stability and consistency is part of that.

I joined the Van Gaal out camp in December because our results seemed to show he'd lost the players. I did not think he would be able to get them back onside and we're still not in a great position. The silver lining is that things seemed to have stop getting worse.

The quality of the Premier League is poor this year, poor enough that if we grind out enough victories we could still win the title. Seven points off the top is not an unbridgeable gap. We have come from further behind at this point more than once.

If he wins the title he deserves another year. I hate his football, I think its mad that we'd overlook Guardiola to stick with him, but you can't argue with results. If the players are with him and we win the Premier League he will have earned a stay of execution.

On the other hand if we end the season without a trophy...

I like him and he is probably the main reason for my passion for football with Hitzfeld. I want him to find the answer to our problems, I want him to end his career on a high but I can't help myself and think that he is only a caretaker, there is no fire in him, no passion. But to be fair I wanted a young manager, so I'm probably holding some grudges.

Funnily enough, JP, I wanted Hitzfeld to succeed SAF.

That's one of my main worries. Klopp may have been quite poor at Liverpool so far, but he seems to have a lot of passion for his job and wants to be there.

I get the impression LVG wanted to retire, but was tempted by the United job for a couple of years, and thought the passion would come later. It hasn't, and he's barely mustering the desire to continue.

A flukey result here and there changes nothing. We've been awful for a while now. He's even given up talking about the need to instill his philosophy. It's done. There are no new ideas. This is as good as its going to get without spending a fortune on better players to somehow make it work.

The style of play doesn't work, the vast majority of players have regressed under him, he's made stupid decisions regarding the playing staff and there's not an ounce of enjoyment in the football. I don't see any reason why a good player would chose to join this mess while he's in charge. He needs to be moved on as soon as the board can find a decent replacement.

If they are not working on it I would feel very concerned about our future. Were going the way of Liverpool and Milan at the moment.

Well said.

Nail on head

Perfectly put.

I'd still sack him now but it looks like that won't be happening. We can all just hope we manage to scramble to 4th again like we did last season and the Board finally do the right thing and get rid in the Summer.

That is the best case scenario now, we grind our way to 4th, we won't be playing nice football or winning any trophies.

When did we overlook Guardiola?

On the contrary, I know it is an opinion, and you have a right to it, but the only statement that would get widespread agreement from United fans is 'not one ounce of enjoyment'. Even then, I am pretty sure most will have enjoyed every win. The rest I would not agree with you.

Who thinks we'll be in a better place at the end of this season than we were at the end of last? We're going nowhere with LVG.

With the money he's splurged, I think it's not unfair to expect a better finish than last season c(ie. top 2 or 3). In lieu of that, a UEFA or FA trophy.

But really I think it's a case of his style of play not working out in England. Too many teams are perfectly happy to let us keep the ball, and we're tiring ourselves in the process. They are hitting us on the counter with a fair bit of success, and there is no fear factor whatsoever. I really wanted LvG to succeed, but his philosophy is just not suited to the Premiership. Either that or there's something horribly, horribly wrong with our execution.

The saving grace is, I actually think he's done well in the transfer market. Whoever takes over doesn't need to overhaul, though we probably do need another striker.
