In all the criticism of Van Gaal, I can't agree with those who have a go at his personality. Everyone knew before he came Van Gaal was cranky, obstreperous, confrontational, and had a mad eyed stare. It's unreasonable to have a pop at his nature. He's a very interesting character amid a world of boring footballers. Just that no one had really taken on board what stodgy football he would produce.

What a fecking joke. Say what you want about United under Moyes but at least we scored goals. I can't believe van Gaal is still our manager.

He's rapidly becoming the most deluded manager since brendon Rodgers, can't believe for a second he still thinks he still has the support of the fans.

Yeah I've got a ST. It's a strange atmosphere, you can tell nobody wants to kick off. But I was saying yesterday that if they took the lead it would get ugly. The fans are showing as much discontent as possible without becoming a harmful presence at the games. If we start losing or there is no improvement then it will change and there'll be riots. The Liverpool game will be telling.
Cheers. It's just a strange experience watching atm as you want the team winning but you also want Lvg gone. And it's no excuse for any Utd manager who gets his team playing like this.

One word. Paralyzed!!

I refuse to believe that the board, including Woodward and the owners, don't understand that something needs to be done. The optimist insides me says we negotiate with one or two candidates.

Look at the players. No joy. Underperforming. Paralyzed.

Look at the managers eyes. Empty. No joy. Paralyzed.

Look at Ryan Giggs. Optimism? Decisive? Anything? Maybe I'm biased but he looks like Moyes. Absolutely clueless and at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I have been working in management for over 20 years and the worst thing to do when the results are bad is doing nothing. Clean the floor from the top and find a new leader. Right now everybody are paralyzed.

Agree with all that but it is quite clear Ed and the board won't move barring there is a complete meltdown. Don't know what you would call our present abysmal run but guess it's not desperate yet for the management.

What really struck true with me re your post is that people can literally see the defiance, the fight having drained from LVG's eyes and body language. He talks the talk but you get the feeling that he doesn't really believe in his ability to turn this around. Especially shots of him on the bench yesterday. If Ed is pushing LVG to stay on because he is Ed's own hire then I've lost all respect for him. Don't know about the politics behind the scenes but I wouldn't have thought the Glazers would can Ed even if he admitted LVG is not working out. In this respect, the Glazers should have experience with quick coaching changes as they have done the same with their NFL team.

Can you tell us if the match going fans are still reluctant to boo or show their displeasure? I don't know if there is really a disconnect between the match going fans and a signifcant portion of fans worldwide who are clearly voicing their discontent with LVG in a more vociferous manner.

I can't speak for everybody, but there's definitely no reluctance to boo. The team have been booed at half time and full time for months. The thing that people need to realise with our match going fans is that we pride ourselves on the way we support the team. The money men get less respect (see Green & Gold campaign). But it would take something particularly bad for the fans let all their feelings be know at the games.

There's always been this arrogance, in a way, around our match day support in the way that we laugh at the way other clubs turn on their managers and players. Nobody wants us to end up like that. I can't say what the breaking point would be, but I'd guess that a loss to Liverpool will be the starting point. If we ended up in a situation where we couldn't make top 4 then I reckon the fans would turn. Even in saying that though, I find it hard to imagine. We're just too respectful of our footballing figures to give them too much abuse.

 When Glory Glory Man United kicks in after that shite, full blast. It's embarrassing right now, but think the club are trying to force this down our throat as if to say 'accept it'. Meanwhile Van Gaal walks down the touchline waving to the fans that are booing. It's like a bad dream all this.

I'm really clinging to the hope that a deal has already been done for the end of the season with Pep.

It's a bloody long shot but it's the only possible reason I can come to which explains why we'd endure LVG any longer.

Do these fans not care if our club goes into decline or is it more important to their egos that they are seen as ardent loyal supporters?

Fine line between respectful and downright brainless. These fans could easily resolve issues at the club if they collectively had the balls to make their opinions known.

We have indecisive eunuchs on the board, a eunuch as a manager who has no balls to drop under performing big players and an impotent captain. We then have a set of castrated supporters who are too afraid to demand changes at the club. The entire spine of the club from board to fans is weak.. there is no desire for change, a complete lack of ambition from head to toe. .yet we think we can attract Pep or Neymar.

The culture at this club needs change both on and off the pitch. No fight to be seen anywhere.

I agree with that. When the song comes on, even over the TV I cringe.

Thanks, this is insightful. From what I can see or hear on TV, the booing is definitely sporadic and not that audible. I really dread the day when the entire stadium boos full bore, because given the way we are putting up with the state of things, it will take a dramatic turning point (maybe lose 5-0 to Liverpool) for people to really turn. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing anymore...

The silence after that performance is downright insulting.

How in anyway is this acceptable? Surely Ferguson must be finding this deplorable and voicing his desire for change?

This

This is the only reason I can think of to have not sacked him by now.

I think we are dreaming though. I'm pretty sure Pep is City bound.

must have a contract like moist did. if (LOL) united finish in the top 4 etc...... , once it no longer is possible etc ...... because it will cost less. FFS pull the trigger. look at the teams we actually beat every now and again. they're shit. i mean real shit.

250 million to play worse than under DFM.

He's starting to make some of Moye's managerial tenure look positive.

I still think Moyes is one of our worst ever managers. Says a lot about Van Gaal's tenure here.

If Moyes had stayed on, would we be any worse than we are now?

250m.....two hundred and fifty fecking million he's spent. Mind explodes.

The thing with Manchester United is that it has got to the stage where a lot of top to bottom rebuilding is needed. It was needed when SAF left. That was when they needed to get the right manager. An manager experienced at the top level who would not be overawed at the task. Moyes was not that man. Then LvG is not the man on such a short contract. It was always going to take more than 3 years. The fact SAF decided to retire so quickly left us in a hole. In a weird way LvG was probably the right one but at the wrong time. He needed to come in after SAF. Not sure either Pep or Jose are builders. Either that or we neglected the academy system or operate it as a seperate entity and had Pep or Jose with just first team responsibilty. LvG is an elderly man who is trying to manage the whole club. There has been bad decision making all round. Too many people with no football experience making business decisions.

Around where are you are now. Not challenging for the title, entrenched in and around 4th-8th. The football could be of a higher standard - still not particularly good to watch, mind you.

Some fans were clearly applauding him.

I would even go as far to say LVG was the right man at the right time, is as much as he steadied the ship in his first season whilst offloading much of the bloated squad. Finishing 4th last season whilst playing 'some' okay football was progress and the beginning of a new blank slate for another manager to inherit.

We all assumed that we would see further progress this year and, for whatever reason, things have stalled massively. Ironically, and in hindsight, LVG for just a 12 month contract after Moyes would have been perfect.

i'm not one of the "side needed total rebuilding" after fergie but it needed more than wiggy and juan (had kagawa already and wiggy is not united). in certain areas yes, but not wholesale. midfield needed a rehaul. maybe 4 players that first summer then more the next. i think the massive turnover in players killed any cohesiveness from saf to lvg. moyes fecked up the first window. then the chopping and changing under LVG has been diabolical at best. not only players but formations. so much spent in time and money and we are further from being any good.

If Moyes had stayed on, would we be any worse than we are now?
I can't see how he'd have us in a worse position. He wouldn't have sold all the attackers and got our squad in a better shape. It was still completely the correct decision to get rid at the time though.
