The depressing part is that he's probably left us with a bigger mess than Moyes.
Yet people will inevitably give LVG credit for "laying the foundations" for any trophies we win in the next decade.

I disagree, yes we've got a squad extremely low on confidence but that's thw first thing that is remedied by a new manager. The actual squad he'd leave behind is far better than the one he took over.

By staying he's just damaging his reputation. His Ajax side was legendary but he's not adapted to the times.

That comment definitely sounds like he'll resign. I like him as a person, I wish it worked out better for him.

That Lineker tweet is pretty funny. If it was aimed at a Liverpool manager everyone would love it.

Absolutely. Gutted for him, but the sooner he leaves the better for both parties. He deserves to retire to his paradise in Portugal and spend some more time with his family now..

My bad. Just the fact that people expect him to stay on until Monday is bewildering.

I don't think the club will sack him today/tomorrow. If the game was a few days later then maybe but they'll probably just let him have Chelsea then that's it. Gives them time to sort the stuff out, Mourinho won't come with his first game being Chelsea with no prep.

He has. He gutted the squad far too quickly and replaced them with duds.

The squad needed gutting.

We are 3 players and a bit of belief away, it just won't happen under LVG, I agree that he needs to go but to call have us down as being in a worse state to where we were when Moyes left is laughable.

It ain't that bad, it's a bit tongue in cheek. Don't know why everyone's on a massive huff over it, the stuff in the papers is significantly worse. Those feckers are the ones we should be trying to gut.

I hope our Dutch doughnut does the right thing, admits failure and defeat, and walks away into retirement.

I don't think we are that far off. It depends if you believe all our issues lie in the manager and players.

Unfortunately, the issues run much deeper.

Nah you're underestimating how far in the shit we were after Moyes.

I think we are in a bigger mess now b/c we spent 250 m over 3 windows to tread water and be potentially out of the CL again.

I don't buy this is a great squad as people make it out to be.

Our attacking options are ordinary Martial aside. Fullback wise we are short. CB wise we one injury from playing McNair or Blind there.

But that is all LVGs doing for letting a lot of players go and not replacing them.

In terms of the team itself it's much better. And right now money isn't much of an issue for United.

We are unbelievably fecked with the CL though. Our coefficient is rapidly declining.

Three players? Most sides are three players away. Heck, stick Suarez in the Liverpool side and you've got potential champions. Indeed it's laughable because we were told he was laying foundations only upto a few weeks back. Thankfully the majority have cottoned on. But we've got a huge mess to clean up in the process. (ha process! )

He is shit and all that but there is no need to misrepresent issues. He's left us with a young squad albeit thin and weak in attack but one which requires additions not the clearout we needed post Moyes. If we do good business in the next two windows we'll be up there with the best in the league.

Please just sack him tonight. To have him face the OT crowd on Monday is cruel. I was worried for van Gaal, he looked like he was going to cry.

Indeed. If he loses again, in our next game, those boos which were heard last time out, would not be nice for anybody.
He needs to be put out of his misery. Through our results, as Moyes before him did, he is telling his employers that he cannot take us any further.
It is upto his employers to make a decision. They don't need to speak to him - they should just look at our results on the pitch.

Still not a great squad though is it? Much better than the one he took over but not particularly impressive given the money spent. If the club has genuine ambitions of being one of the best sides in Europe, most of our first choice eleven will need replacing. He's replaced deadwood mainly with just good players and left us short in several areas.

LVG just said in the press on that i"t's not just the club that sacks people, sometimes I do it by myself"...

Still should be a squad that should be comfortably in the top 4 and still playing in the CL. Not this current state of ever increasing implosion.

Memphis, Blind, Rojo, German bloke, Darmian, Fellaini (not his buy to be fair) etc they simply aren't good enough. Nor is Rooney, Jones and couple of others to be fair. That's a bloody mess.

In my opinion, the CB position was priority this summer and it was somehow decided that we were fine there. Another massive error by LvG this summer.

Not sacking him before this game has done him more harm than good.

My idea was to get rid him last week.
Then bring Jose in. Let him play against Stoke (we'd probably lose).
But against Chelsea, we'd have a chance of winning.
Right now, we have virtually no chance of winning.
Even if Jose is brought in today, he has only a few hours to work with our players - which is pointless.
LVG has to manage us in our next game, simply because there is no time for any other manager to work our players, in time for the Chelsea game.

We've wasted almost every transfer window since Sir Alex left chasing impossible to sign players and it's now coming back to haunt us. Letting players leave left and right because we're so arrogant that we'll sign some superstar at the end of the window.

No I wouldn't say its great, I'd say it's a lot better than the one he inherited that's all. Whether it's as good as it should be for the money spent is a different matter. I think with a few quality additions it could be great though. De Gea, Smalling, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Martial are all first choice 11 players looking forward for me, Herrera and Mata possibly with the development of Memphis, Lingard, Pereira to monitor. Some decent squad players like Blind and Schweinsteiger. We just need a bit more depth and that one player to take over the role of talisman. Work to do but it's far and away not a worse situation than post Moyes.

I don't think Mata has been good considering we been waiting 2 years for him to turn up.

Even if Mourinho were unveiled on Monday, he'd be in the stands. Giggs would be managing the team. Same thing happened with Chelsea and Hiddink. But to think having both the home and away crowd chanting for Mourinho  Surreal.

Oh absolutely, they're clearly underperforming and I think Van Gaal needs to go. The point is the managers people want in won't be coming to fight for 4th and this squad is not good enough to challenge for the title or in Europe (which is surely the aim).

Memphis, Blind, Rojo, German bloke, Darmian, Fellaini (not his buy to be fair) etc they simply aren't good enough. Nor is Rooney, Jones and couple of others to be fair. That's a bloody mess.

Memphis is young and has had 4 months in a new league. Maybe give him a bit of time ?

The rest have all shown that when on form they have a place here either starting of coming from the bench. Jones is now where Smalling seems to have been a couple seasons back, he will mature into a better player.

Rooney does need to go.

So not quite as big a mess ?

Seems to be a general consensus developing, not only that Louis has to go, but that some of our players are too shit to play for the club or are absolute bottlers. Next manager has a huge summer ahead of him.

I can see us having to take a loss on Mata and Fellaini, try to ship out Rooney and reinvest quite heavily in the squad. Carrick is finished at this level and Schweinsteiger is at an age where he can't be relied on to play week in week out. The midfield is still a huge problem. As is the attack. As is the defense.

Will the board truly appoint a manager who identifies the actual problems which means taking a loss on players and spending big to improve the squad?
