The 'lazy' journalism that I'm referring to is the obviously false claims that he has already been sacked and that Mourinho's arrival is imminent.

I'm not really in favour of van Gaal staying, certainly not long term, but that doesn't mean to say I have to approve of what is being written.

I acknowledge van Gaal has plenty of shortcomings but I don't think you can use being out of the top 4 as a stick to beat him with. It's the first time we have fallen out of it this season and we are just 3 points off 3rd.

The press were wrong to take a story from Twitter as truth but they're always going to retweet speculation - but so what? It's what they do - and it was all over Twitter before the actual press got hold of it.

Even if you ignore being outside the top 4 all of the other criticisms are fair and based in fact.

And for me out being outside the top 4 is significant because dropping out represents what's going on now - decline in results and performances.

Bit of a silly goal to be honest given the short time since finishing 7th, getting back into the CL and having to rehaul most of our squad with injuries to our best players this season. But some people will always expect the unrealistic I guess that despite all of that we will still challenge for 1st. LVG was always referred to as a stabilising manager. 4 weeks ago we were bemoaning Rooney's terrible form and how we were suffering in attack so whoever was talking about being in contention for the title should have their head checked.

No, its not a silly goal. Challenging for title should be our approach to the season, no matter what. anything other than that is accepting mediocrity.

Injury to our best players?. Like who?. Our best players this season have been Smalling and De gea. Smalling was out for 1 week. Injuries happen to every team. Look at Arsenal, they have more critical players out than for us. Aguero, silva have barely played for city this season.

Same way, people who think we will finish 4th with this kind of form ought to have their heads checked as well.

It's not a silly goal by any stretch of the imagination, if we had beaten Bournmouth, Norwich and got a win out of one of the many draws we would be top, this is why it's so infuriating that were doing shit, 3 very winnable games, but because of lvg were playing rubbish.

Peter Bolton tweeted a photo of his match day programme for the upcoming Chelsea game, which he has received early. Louis Van Gaal is all over it, so it looks like the club has no intention of getting rid, even if we got embarrassed by Stoke.

More gluten for punishment for all of us

Unbelievable.

The Sun's cover page is an embarrassment not because their points are wrong, but because of their made up stories about Van Gaal's supposed sacking all week.

They really shouldn't be the ones publishing this stuff, but I don't like how Van Gaal handled it as well.

You have to handle it way better though. They are amateurish and idiotic. But LvG's reaction wasn't much better.
Fergie had a notorious short temper with the press, even went as far as refusing to deal with BBC against tv contracts,I sympathize with Louis, why pander to people who lie for a living.

Fair play to Louis, let's hope our players bust a gut for him, although I highly doubt it.

18 months ago, many of us couldn't wait for the arrival of what we thought was one of the scariest and toughest managers around. Now, we have a man wilting to some garbage written in a fecking news paper that people only purchased for the third page.

Funny thing is, in all the threads about a new manager, don't recall one single person wanting LvG as manager before the rumors started of him taking over. His run in the world cup gave false hope to a lot of people.

yep, no way we'd make a multi million pound decision about sacking a manager when we've spent 50k on programmes.

Im referring to the poll again...since Saturday 6 people voted for the "hes great option". Who can be that stupid?
UnitedInRed got a stern telling off for suggesting those who want us to lose vs Stoke are 'lunatics'. You won't see mods bollocking you for calling those whose opinion differs names, though. They have as much ground to think he's great as some have to want us to lose. Yes, they are oppo fans mostly but if there were United fans who actually do think he's a great option, surely we'd have to respect their opinion? Unless there's even more hypocrisy in here than I thought.

personally I wanted him in after he took a mediocre netherlands side to 3rd place in the world cup.

though now I see that I was mistaken and most of their success probably down to robben's brilliance.

Invasive tearing, huh? Sounds provocative.

Also, Rasht, you probably need a comma after "I", so everyone knows you're talking about yourself.

You're welcome :)

2 wins and the announcement he is gone Tuesday is what I want.

If we get 2 wins, maybe we can pull ourselves back into the top 3?

The truth is that he is a 4th place manager. Last year, he took us to 4th. And this year we are in joint 4th.
So, I think realistically, 4th place is what LVG's philosophy can get us.
MUFC need to now decide if 4th place is good enough to keep our money men (sponsors), on board OR if they have higher aspirations.

Agree with this, we are somehow unable to progress further than that

The question is? Is it even good enough for top 4 at this rate

I think the decision has been made, it's now only a matter of who replaces him. If we hold off on sacking him until the summer it will mean Pep is our first choice and we are positive that we will get him otherwise we would have hired Mourinho already.

I believe that the board already pulled the trigger and he is gone. His style of play is just not working for us and it is evident. We either get Jose in a few weeks or it will be pep next season.

Pep would be amazing but I wouldn't mind Jose either.

Why is he an embarrassment? Because he found LVG's meltdown during a press conference cringeworthy?
Regardless of what happens tomorrow, LvG's PC was anything but meltdown. He didn't even lose it - media did, hence the fake apologies that are meant to be funny apparently. Don't like 'his' style (or any possession style for that matter) but how can you call that presser 'meltdown' is beyond me. Some of the media have been as butt-hurt as I've seen them and they tend to be pretty thick-skinned.
