If Giggs becomes manager we better are prepared for a long period of mediocrity
I can only see a maximum of one season's mediocrity. The club won't tolerate becoming a midtable side.

A name I haven't seen mentioned is Lucien Favre. He's done excellent work with Mönchengladbach and Hertha Berlin before that. Really should be on our list of possible successors for LvG.

I dont think this board has the balls to fire Giggs after one season. They would most likely give him a 2nd or 3rd as he isnt experienced and allow him to learn on the job.

Also he'd be a third sacking in just a few years, and as they dont want to be seen as a sacking club, they would probably stick by him too.

That he is a club legend would buy him even more time. So a top 6 finish would probably be enough in his first season.

Based on what facts?

Based on what facts? Isn't it pretty obvious? This squad is hard to work with as it is. Doesn't need much imagination to see it slip down the table with a manager at charge that was not more than assistant coach for two of the most disappointing managers in United's history.
Giggs should prove himself somewhere else. Ppl were even rooting for Ole to take over SAF. Also for the sole reason he can be considered a United legend. We all know where his managerial career went.

Giving it to Giggs would be such a shocking decision. He's been part of two failed management regimes and even if you think he's been sidelined or ignored that still doesn't reflect well on him.

We really are not in a position to be taking such a gamble on him.

Opinion has to be based on something. Otherwise it's just outright prejudice.

I have the same opinion, and its not based on nothing.
Im curious as to what the opinion Giggs would be a good manager is based on, despite ZERO evidence to support it.
Not saying that he wouldn't but IMO we can't afford to gamble

It's a sorry state if the entire twitter and press alike waiting anxiously all day for the release from OT saying LVG has been sacked. Some fans are even wiling to lose against Stoke if it means LVG will be sacked. At that, I just wanted him to stay and prove everyone wrong.
It's certainly wrong to wish for a defeat. It just pulls us further back in the chase for European places. However, some fans are likely choosing or wishing United to lose in the hope short term pain of losing with the likelihood of LvG being sacked will be good for long term prosperity. If he proves us wrong and brings us success and some decent football that's all well and good. I'm sure that's all United fans require.

Imagine, the FSW gets sacked and replaced by Mou.

LvG losses the next 2 games and he gets sacked.

FSW joins us as an interim manager.

It happened to Chelsea, it can happen to us too.
Won't happen. We're more likely to go for Giggs.

What about in 1989 when 'sack SAF and sell Giggs' was all the rage? What credit did SAF have then? We were rubbish a full month before that Robins goal.
What are you talking about? Giggs wasn't even playing in the first team in 1989. The Robins goal was in 1990. And we'd been pretty poor/mediocre for 3 years plus.

Don't we miss out on Adidas money if we fail to qualify for the CL or was it only last year? I don't think Woodward would let it get to that point, neither would the board allow the club to regress into mediocrity and irrelevancy like Liverpool.

Besides, I don't think the club would hire Giggs when we're in the rebuilding phase. He will probably get the chance when the squad will be deemed ready for a title challenge.

If we are not in for Mourinho then maybe it's still pepON?!
nah it's giggs

Tbf to Van Gaal he's always said he was willing to hear out the players' arguments.

Whether he actually listens to them or not is another matter.
Lahm basically confirmed this. Crisis talks were had at bayern and he simply just listens to the players requests and then ignores them.

This looks bad.

We're really going to make the exact same mistake twice. Sad times.

So we seemingly miss out on 3 of the best managers around that become available at once?
If we do and become mediocre, Woodward will face the wrath of Old trafford. If the club doesnt wake up, I am sure match goers will make sure its shaken up.

No, it isn't.

This squad is hard to work with as it is.

No, it isn't. Van Gaal is making it hard with his ludicrous "philosophy" and ridiculously harsh training regime.

The truth is, there is no evidence either way about Giggs' capabilities.

I wonder what Fergie's re-telling of our decision to hire Giggs will be in 18 months time when we're sacking him for guiding us to mid-table.

"he was actually our fourth choice... I told Pep/Carlo/Jose to all give me a call when they wanted the job but it never happened so we went with Ryan who was the next best available"

Hardly. It's no secret that inexperienced, unproven people have a tendency to struggle when they are thrown in at the deep end. Giggs may surprise us all but the likelihood is that he doesn't.

I'm not normally the cynical type where the clubs concerned, but that doesn't exactly look ridiculous.

..and hence the better option is to go with someone who has given ample proof of capabilities and let Giggs prove himself somewhere else. If he proves, we will gladly have him next.

Not worried about the Soanish reports, that's told from Madrids angle i.e what they hope to happen after holding talks. Nothing about Mourinhos preference either way.
Too many Journos who are Jose nut huggers claim it's United he's angling for.
Can't really blame United for dragging our heels when Jose was only fired 6 fecking days ago

Can't see us getting mourinho tbh, as soon as Madrid start circling its pointless even bothering. Although he has been burnt by Madrid already so that may have an effect. The more time goes by the more desperate I am see Mourinho at united.

But again, that's just opinion. Some people are making absolute assertions about what would happen if he were appointed manager, on the basis of absolutely nothing.

Nah, that's a battle I'd expect us to win. Question is whether we actually want him. I can see us giving Giggs a shot.

Says it all that they're potentially making the same mistake twice. There's absolutely no reason to give the job to Giggs other than pure sentiment.

It's not 'absolutely nothing' despite how many times you may state it. Giggs is an unknown quantity therefore a bigger risk. That's a fact.

This is so real.

All you fools happy with Giggs taking over may shut your traps when he has us mid table for three seasons.

Although I'm sure you'll be delighted as he'll play the United way. Whatever the feck that means.
