if we must give Giggs a try, then we may as well give it now. Holding on to LVg and then sacking him late only for Giggs to have a few matches may mean the full season next.

I hope the club would have backed him by now if he was staying. Not backing him and if he manages stoke, it will be so difficult.

Giggs will be caretaker for at least 2 games. No way they've spoken to JM already and negotiations will take a few days.

The alternatives aren't that great... Mourinho is toxic and plays dour football. Giggs will have learnt a lot tactically under Van Gaal.

I like how on one hand you dispense of Mourinho because he plays dour football but on the other state that Giggs will have learnt a lot from the manager who's probably played the worst football we've ever seen.

United youth team drawing 0-0 with QPR. LvG's philosophy is contagious.

It really is. West Ham drew 0:0 their last two games after the game at Old Trafford, which was their first 0:0 draw this season.

If the idea is to promote from within, why Giggs? Why not one of the other backroom staff?

This obsession with Giggs is bordering on cult like.

I wonder if Barca fans said the same when Pep was appointed manager? How wrong they were proved.

Pep had a full season with Barca's B team before taking over the first team. The only experience Giggs has is 4 games at the end of the 13/14 season.

Oh please! You were never around to see us under Dave Sexton.

At least we trashed City and Liverpool. Under Sexton I don't recall a single good game

Probably. It doesn't change the fact that Pep had managerial experience, albeit at a lower level, whereas Giggs' experience amounts to a whole 4 games. He hasn't really gotten a chance to figure out what sort of a manager he'll be.

Although I've posted that Giggs should get it, I think that the board will go for JM. (But clearly wait until after the Chelsea game to avoid the media storm)

Do you guys think Giggs would accept a role in JM's backroom staff?

The basics of what Van Gaal has done (up to the final third) are very good.

Using Pep, a major exception to the rule of great players becoming great managers, as an argument to give Giggs the job is just so stupid its beyond belief.

Please don't sack Van Gaal for Ryan Fecking Giggs.

Seriously, my interest in football will be at an all-time low if that happens. This club appears to be run by morons.

More the other way around. I can't see Giggs being appointed with Mourinho ,if he's the manager. JM will want his own staff

I'm just jesting.

To be fair nobody under the age of about 50 (which would've made them 15 when Sexton got sacked), is going to accurately remember what that football was like. And tbh most will have to be a fair bit older than that. So his post wasn't a huge stretch.

We'll have to wait and see if given the opportunity. United suits maybe clueless, but surely they must see something we don't if they do go that route.
The point is that Pep is a very rare manager. I don't think his case will be repeated very often at all. And fans have no reason to blindly believe in anyone just because they're a famous name.

As for the bolded bit, we did see "something" in Moyes too.

What has that got to do with anything? If we are getting Mou anyway then it should be before the Chelsea game. Add some spark to what otherwise has been a dull season.

2 and a half years ago. Apparently Perez still likes him.

no chance we're losing him to them.

It's just whether we think pissing about with Giggs as caretaker is more sensible

He might but Jose shouldn't.

I doubt Mourinho would want Giggs lurking behind him when he's trying to do his job.

this seems the likelihood.

but maybe Mourinho can be talked around, as it'd seem a bit of a waste having Giggs in the mixer under 2 managers for "continuity", and then straight out now.

But then anything lower than assistant manager would be a step down. And most often when a manager fails you don't want the team that failed round him!

A lot of points to this

You read Twilight?

No :nervous:

If we want Mourinho we'll get him. He didn't enjoy managing in Spain at all, and has constantly maintained that the PL is the place he thinks is the best, and where he belongs.
