The Star, quoting Fichajes.net, claims that Mourinho has agreed a 5-year deal with United.

EDIT: It also has a story about a blind mystic who predicted tsunamis and ISIS. Oh dear.

He'd be gone by now if he was going before Stoke, I've got a feeling he's going nowhere.

Actually I'm pretty sure he was going to resign but the players begged him to stay.

His resignation was already accepted by the president. But the players went to the president to say he should withdraw the acceptance, he was happy to continue with Van Gaal. But the players had to go to the managers house to convince the man himself, and they did (you see, he isn't that stubborn).

The Dutch football press estimated that AZ would make it to 13th the next season. I think it was the 3rd match of that season he lost 3-0 and the whole presser was gloating about his upcoming sacking, but he said he was very satisfied with the match, they played very well and he had no worries. Everybody was stunned first, but laughed at him later. This was the last match he lost until they had won the league comfortably.

Imagine a repeat. The scenes on here. Doesn't bare thinking about.

Resigns and is begged to come back, a group of players, led by Herrera... And Jones.

Exagerration of the decade.

What exactly about LVG makes him a remarkable human from what I've seen he's very arrogant and self centred not the qualities of a decent person.

He is remarkable. Coached the best clubs in the world, won stuff, lauded and is a madhouse hated by many. Remarkable is correct. Striking character.

wonder what odds a bookie would give me for Mourinho taking over and winning the league THIS season with United?

In all seriousness, if Mourinho were to take over before the Stoke match I wouldn't rule out a United triumph in the league in May. We're not that far off in terms of points from the league leader and there's enough quality there BEFORE January to make a solid top three run. City and Arsenal have already shown weakness and Leicester City will eventually drop, though you have like them now for a top four finish. We still have an injury crisis to get through and the Rooney problem remains, but with a bit of luck our way we could actually go the distance. It will take everything Jose's got and renewed commitment from Rooney and if those two come to pass we can't be ruled out.

But we can't lose to both Stoke and Chelsea, which is why the #LVGnightmare has to stop now.

The caf reaction would be a sight to behold. Until it crashed 30 seconds later of course.

Indeed. We could have him for a couple of years before replacing him with... Louis Van Gaal. It'd be like Frank Kafka's worst nightmare. How the feck do we break the loop?!

I've become more of a muppet recently, I think. Or, possibly - I've become more of a muppet apologist.

I find people who go "haha, you're in meltdown over nothing" increasingly tedious.

Nah, you've always been like that. I've you firmly in the muppet denial category.

The "rot" started a long time before we were injured.
Scoring an average of 1 goal per game - do you think this is acceptable?
In our last game, which we lost, most of our first team played, so the injury crisis isn't a valid excuse.

Until our last game I was a supporter of LVG, but when Norwich AND Bournemouth (who were only just promoted) beat us, it doesnt sit well with me.
The other thing is that the lack of goals started at the tail end of last season. It didn't improve this season.
His continued insistence that Rooney must play, even though he can't score a goal, even when his job is on the line. If he isn't prepared to change his ways, even when his job is on the line, then nothing will change him.

I think LVG is quite content to have us scoring 1 goal/game (and drawing/losing) and probably thinks we are doing well on the pitch (ie. dominating possession).

The simple truth is that we are now getting out foxed by rival teams which have weaker players than ours.
And the Stoke game coming up - if LVG is in charge, expect more useless possession, Rooney on the pitch and us scoring 1 less goal than our opponents.

A great manager can take a bunch of ponies and make them perform like race-horses. LVG (like Moyes before him) is doing the reverse.

We didn't have proper full backs ,Young, Smalling and Rooney were just back from injury,Schweinsteiger,Schneiderlin missing thats half the team out of sorts.
The so called rot if your referring to this season had us 3 points off the top of the league in September, 4 off top in October and 1 point off top in November,it started to go to pot in the league once the injuries took its toll.

While I would agree we should be beating the likes of Norwich at home, they have caused some of the other bigger teams problems this season,City,Arsenal,Liverpool and Chelsea.

What of Jose comes in down the line and Madrid/Chelsea's us. Brief success, catastrophic meltdown, sacked, Rafa or Hiddink come in.

Then what? Scary.

If the club is clever they prepare themselves for the worse and identify a successor, something that they should do no matter who signs.

LVG has had plenty of high profile, and very public, falling outs with players and staff Ajax, Bayern and Barca.

I could well see it happening again if he stays and things keep getting worse.

The same could be said about Mourinho, any of the clubs he has worked with has ended sour.

I would say his antics at Barcelona and Chelsea were alot worse that LVG's if being honest.

Why does everyone think Mourinho would be our savior? I personally wouldn't want him at OT - he's washed up

Mourinho is still one of the best managers in the world, it's amazing how quickly people want to discredit him after a few bad months. It's frankly laughable and desperate behaviour.

He joined a Real that hadnt been past the last 16 of the UCL since 2004(knocked out twice by Olimpique fkn Lyonnais) , and since he's time there they have been semifinal regulars. Improved them in all honesty. The season before he joined, they had been mutilated 4-0 by Liverpool. Chelsea he left reached a UCl final and within 2 points of the title.

The supposed effect he has on teams when he leaves is sensationalized. For example, Porto simply lost most of their best players when he left. McCarthy, Ferreira, Deco, Carvalho all sold.

Even when he struggles, he still does relatively well by normal standards.

We'll be fine. Success would do a world of good to this players , and the experience of winning together will be an important one.

José Mourinho is not washed up. He is the best manager in the world atm.

Some bad months at toxic Chelsea dont change that.

 with a league title in his last full season....must be a windup!
Look further back. As others pointed out, too often it ended in a disaster and his antics are something I despise.

Some time ago people would not have wanted him close to United but now, since we're on the way down, he's the best again.

Yep the best in league, only since we're 'going down'
 erm he's kinda the current league champion!

Go home, you're drunk

At this stage I wouldn't Mourinho. Pep would be my top choice but that looks so unlikely right now, doesn't leave us with much options. I do think we need a short-term solution, someone to come in and show us that life goes on without Fergie. That was meant be LvG's job really, but he really fecked that up.

Once we have that, we can start thinking about something more longterm, I would even consider Giggs!
