Could you see LVG dragging Utd through the Mud like Jose did,his carry on at Chelsea was pretty shocking.

That's a great point. Are we willing to trade trophies for this scorched earth approach? I must admit after three fallow (and frankly humuliating) years (I doubt we will win anything this year), the proposition doesn't look so unattractive anymore.

Bbc gossip column-
Several newspapers are reporting that manager Louis van Gaal will be sacked if Manchester United lose to Stoke on Boxing Day. (Various)

And United made contact with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho about replacing Van Gaal, even before Saturday's defeat to Norwich. (Sun)

Campione Campione José José José!

feckin hell, how could anyone want Jose after all of this. Boring footall? Check. Refusal to play youth? Check. Recently sacked from a team fighting relegation? Check. Known to cause ridiculous fights, spout shit in the media, has assaulted opposing coaches before? Check.
Yep, that sounds like just the guy I want managing my club

Is he a proven winner? Yes he is, he will win us a trophy or two before the inevitable downfall in 2018.

This downfall is overblown.

He left Real Madrid in second place. Left Chelsea first time as FA cup winners and second place. They went on to go in the champions league final and finish second place.

He left Porto as champions league winners. Left Inter as champions leagues winners.

The only time it has went bad for him is at Chelsea the second time.

Well, he has had a lot of support on here for years. When Fergie stepped down a Caf majority wanted Maureen to take over. That's one thing.

For me, personally, it's cold blooded pragmatism. If LVG has to go (and he has to go if things have reached a certain point - that isn't debatable, and has nothing to do with any particular "process" he may be trying to complete), we need a replacement. Realistically, that replacement is Giggs or Maureen.

Do the math, as they say. It's by no means a matter of being in love with Maureen as such.

This is not happening, is it? It seems we'll have to endure him for a while longer.
The Tweets above suggest he's gone and that's been the feeling all day really, supposedly Hoek said something about finding out at 2.30pm tomorrow.

I haven't seen a single journo contradicting the general narrative here. The only thing published that I've seen which goes against the grain is the Jones interview, which smacks of Moyes more than anything, I'd say. Fletcher made similar comments, IIRC, not long before Moyes got the boot.

What's circulated is a) the ultimatum and b) United in talks with Mendes. Obviously, none of these feckers are to be trusted - but I'd be surprised if something wasn't underway. That ultimatum smells like a Woody briefing. And whether it's a smoke screen or not, it certainly means LVG is in serious trouble.

Think he's gone already regardless of the next two results, they're just trying to iron shite out with Jose is my guess.

I agree I was being half serious when I said he would fail in 2018. He's a great manager and I would happily take him at the club. Personally I could see him staying longer out of respect to SAF.

I get the sense that Jose wants a long term job . United hierarchy will be the easiest one his worked under since Moratti, and he never fell out with anyone at the club at Inter(he even tried to help Balotelli)

At Chelsea, he had Emenalo undermining him. I think he'll realize that is his last chance at top English club. He's usually had a go at various managers in the league, yet with both Fergie and Van Gaal, he's been able to restrain himself. I think he'll respect Fergie that much to tone it down.

Agreed.
What a dream for someone like Jose, a control freak, an arrogant egomaniac having complete footballing control of a huge club like SAF did, surely it sounds too good to be true (compared to pretty much all of the other places he's managed at).

Agree. He had very good relations with Moratti and that showed in the relationship he developed within the club. There, the media was a problem. He till now has preferred English media to Spanish and Italian and if he gets out of his grumpy mode shown this season, media life compared to Italy and Spain should be easier. It is not guaranteed though because Mou+United combination is perfect recipe for media to create controversies and make mountain out of molehill. Media in England like him in general because they need characters like him, but they won't hesitate to use him for controversies.

They absolutely loved him at Inter. And he quite a bit of control there too.

This was Materazzi's reaction when he left the club.

I think he should have a football man helping him run things with regards to things such as long term strategy and youth academy, but unlike at Chelsea , he should be given control of transfers.

He has his weaknesses, but he also has many great qualities too. I'm fully on board the Jose express now.

They still have a great relationship to this day.I think he had even planned on returning to Inter, but with Moratti no longer being the top man, that might no longer happen.,

The English media do love Mourinho, and he can handle them. The Spanish and Italian media hated him because of his controversial nature. He needs to settle down though. If we do sign him, we should have a clause in his contract that he cannot talk about Wenger.

I think today is the day. LvG will be sacked. José Mourinho will be our new manager. The funny thing is that everyone knows that United with him just might be back to old winning ways.

I don't think he'll be massively obsessed by Wenger if he was to take charge of United.

We'll probably win the league this year if we get him and time and give him the transfer window, our squad (like so many others have said) is only a couple of players off, eerily similar to the way Chelsea was before Jose took over a second time.

Meeting at 2.30 pm According to twitter. If they dont go today, he will get at least the stoke game.

There is a consensus, if he doesnt go today, he will gif stoke beat us. Imagine jose's first game is vs chelsea.

If the ultimatum is true then my fears are coming to fruition. I said yesterday that I had a bad feeling we'd get decent enough results in the next two games to keep van Gaal in a job. Meaning we also miss out on Mourinho. Any good results now would mean nothing, the team under Van Gaal is a million miles away from where we need to be. He's not turning it around.

Woodward is stupid if he thinks 2 results actually mean anything in the long run.

I really don't understand the mentality of 'win the next game and you can keep your job'. I know in hindsight it probably means ' win the next game, and we will just sack you the next time you lose', but I just don't see why we don't go all in for Mourinho now while he's available.

Yup. Mourinho had talked about returning to Inter sometime during his 2nd Chelsea stint. Probably last year, don't remember when exactly. But with Moratti no longer the man calling shots there, it can't happen, at least in near future. Also Mancini is doing quite well there. Inter will remember someone big only when they fail under Mancini in Europe...again :p

I hope so.

I respect Wenger massively and think their feud has gotten to childish levels, and I dont want that here.

Just stick to the job at hand. United and him are in a serious ditch right now, need to refocus and restrengthen. Meaningless feuds are not worthwhile.

Ultimatums like this are absolutely pointless. The minute you start assessing a manager on a game-by-game basis, it's already over.

If that is their intention, they should sack him now and bring in Mourinho. Sacking a manager two days before the next match (against a, possibly, reinvigorated Chelsea side) is really dumb.

This win the next game nonsense will cost us an excellent manager for no reason, literally no reason, he's gonna get sacked so why not just do it now and get it over and done with?

Inter are top, although Mancini struggles in Europe. Hopefully if he does come here, he finds a home and no need to return to Inter.

Mourinho seems to be desperate to find a place to belong. Obviously Chelsea didnt turn out to be that.

I think the "ultimatum" is just us buying time while signing mourinho. or it had better be.

Think that he has done "a job" here but that's as far as it goes. To sack him mid-season, unless he is proven to be damaging the club, would not be a true reflection of the much-needed positive stability he has brought us … HOWEVER, having said that, to let him see out the last year of his contract after the end of the season would be a mistake in my opinion as I feel he has done all that he can. If there is a way of offloading him at the end of this season without anyone losing too much face I would favour that move.

Think we've almost certainly missed out on Pep as the long game that City have played has been very clever. Getting in those former Barca guys and letting them settle in while biding their time and waiting patiently has been a master-stroke along with the Qatari tie-in I think that's done and dusted. Funny really, as much as it pains me to say it, it rather makes them look like a club that actually plans ahead rather than waits for it all to go wrong before making knee-jerk decisions.

Having to watch us continue down this road flanked by clubs successfully run by Pep and Klopp would be painful to say the least!

Most managers ultimately get sacked eventually to be fair.

I'm sure that's a news to his defenders.

Apparently, there is something in his character which makes him lose the plot after some period at a foreign club, be it 1 or 2 years.
