Luke Shaw injury for England | sustained concussion and returned to Manchester (6 day rest period)

Thank feck he is OK, let us hope it is nothing serious and gets back to full health soon.
This does mean that he won't be playing the other match against the Swiss right ??

It looked like he might have been out before his head even hit the ground. Hopefully it's not too bad.

Ramos clearly meant it too when he played that long ball.

Glad to hear he’s doing alright, all things considered.

Those downplaying concussions and preferring them to leg injuries need to have a re-think. Impacts to the head have a compounding effect, and concussions are no joke with regards to the degenerative risks to the brain later in life.

Its not even about international breaks anymore. Other clubs' players play these games and don't have any problems. It's always us for some reason. It was the most predictable thing really that Shaw would get injured. Someone in the match thread even asked what minute will he play up-to before he gets injured.

Come on , I'm pretty sure it's not only United players that get Injured on international duty. In fact it doesn't even happen that much to us.

If there's 0,1% chance he'd be worse off playing next sat then I'd rest him till the next game. The lad is in scorching form right now and we should wrap him in cotton wool. Trust our management, though, so if he plays - he's ready.

Any gif of his sweet assist out there? There must've been some from our resident magicians here.

The only good thing about international football is the EC and WC... and they are only good because there isnt regular football during the summer.

This 100%. Ruins my weekend for me with these matches, be they friendlies or not.

I've watched about 5 times and still can't see what initially caused him harm. The Spanish player's ribs maybe? So innocuous. Obviously he hits the ground hard, but he must already be out at that point.

I blame Ramos.

Horrible stuff, hope to see him get better soon. Have to say though, having not watched the game, I feared a reoccurring injury more. Go on Lukey, keep it going.

Can we just sack these pointless friendlies...sorry, Nations Cup games...off already?

Of course that happened. Don't concussions have a few weeks mandatory rest period?

I think the side of his head hits Cavajal’s elbow... and just catches him in the wrong spot.

Best thing is he is fine.

I also blame Ramos, and I think he managed to hurt Mo Salah with that same long ball.

It happens, really no biggie. He’s unlucky but he just needs to get on with it.

His pass for Rashford’s goal is a much better story and of more relevance, lovely ball in.

I was hoping that the length of time they spent with him on the ground and all the stuff they put on him was just a case of the modern day procedure and protocol for a head knock, and thankfully that seems to be the case.

Carvajal's elbow caught him in the temple.

Great to hear he's OK.

Not just from our point of view but, I know what it's like and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

I see Mourinho is being criticised in this... Ffs... Media are unreal

Dunno about the initial challenge but the way he fell looked like it did the damage, glad to hear he’s okay. Wish him a speedy recovery.

agreed 100%.
For those saying that he is "ok" - we won't know for sure until things have settled a bit, ie. when he goes home, sleeps wakes up, performs his normal activities, then plays football and also has some medical tests. Only after this can we say that he is "ok".

Just some info for those who might not know:

1) Luke was almost definitely unconcious after he hit the ground (and possibly before) - the flailing (straight) arm was a demonstration of the fencing response - something that unconcious people do. It's thought to protect you somewhat as you fall.

2) Concussions can worsen over time (hence the monitoring) - think about how your ankle swells bigger and bigger after you go over it - same thing but only where his brain is. Potentially very serious but usually fine (having a great medical team around him helps). He's going to have a sore head tomorrow!!!

Fencing is a reflex that happens in babies up to 6 months. Mild traumatic brain injury causes it to reoccur. I don't believe it has anything to do with protecting from a fall.
