Luke Shaw injury for England | sustained concussion and returned to Manchester (6 day rest period)

Well it is.

Everyone says this same spiel until the World Cup comes along and they all want to fill their summer watching it. Perhaps they think teams should just appear at major tournaments with no qualification or preparation.

Nobody likes their precious league seasons interrupted, but it should be easy enough to appreciate the necessity. Unless you also think the Euros and World Cup is a waste of time, which is a far less commonly held view.

You cannot make this up.

I really hope it's not as bad as it looked.

Knocked out cold by the looks of things! Hopefully no other injuries when he comes round and just a couple of weeks out with concussion!

Devastated. Feel so sad for him.
Awful. Get well soon.

It's easy to lash out at the international game and doesn't achieve anything, but it is ridiculous that players are putting themselves on the line for national sides that don't even pay their wages.

Hopefully all the straps and neck brace is standard procedure. He looked like he was (hopefully)knocked out and nothing more.

Knocked out at least, hence the 'fencer' reflex. He'll be out a couple of weeks at least.

fecking internationals, don't know why we bother. Fergie was always pulling players out of pointlesd international friendlies.

Too good to be true, there are so many players that just never get a break with injuries. I could almost feel this coming with him, poor fella.

Looked like he was knocked out cold. So he'll be out of the Watford game at least.

He played today to fight for his place. He made that amazing assist and was doing well. Wouldn’t blame him for that.

Looked quite innocuous, maybe the landing?

Yeah it's a clear concussion due to the sudden hit. I think he'll be ok in few days but they have to take precautions so that nothing happens to his neck or head due to the hit.

Hope it's concussion and I don't say concussion lightly but fingers crossed it's not a fracture.

I've just seen it. Hopefully he's just been knocked out and nothing more than that.

It's also easy enough to appreciate the absurdity of clubs loaning their multi-million pound assets to the international teams, free of charge, with no guarantee they'll get them back in good condition. In what other business would that sort of thing happen?

Hopefully it isn't a broken jaw. A mate of mine suffered a severely broken jaw which required extensive, long term work in a very similar type of incident.

Tbh on first viewing, I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays against Watford. Looked knocked out, which is not something that necessarily affects you for weeks. Could feel much better as early as the morning I think.

With those types of falls, 9/10 times it will be just concussion but there is unfortunately always the chance of further complications depending on what part of the head exactly suffers the trauma. He should be alright but I wouldn’t be suprised if he is out for 2-3 games.

Edit looking at that replay, the base of the skull seemed to hit the ground which would explain why he was immediately knocked unconscious. Good he got medical attention very fast.

This is a Micky Mouse competition thought up for the sole purpose of making UEFA money.

I haven’t seen (don’t think I want to) it. I really want to wish Luke every. It of good luck that is going. He has had a lot of bad luck and he really doesn’t need any more.
Good luck Luke. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Get back to OT quickly.

I would. With concussion they play it safe and have players sit out a couple of weeks.

Of course. Sorry, to be clear, it's the system of international football that's to blame. Ridiculous that hugely valuable assets are being put at risk for the benefit of people who aren't accountable if they break down.

So we are back to slow build up again on left and cut back merchant will be back in at left back.

That’s a different argument, and not necessarily one I disagree with.

But qualifying games for a major tournament are obviously not pointless. Unless we’re proposing rock, paper, scissors to see who makes it.

It looked like he might have been out before his head even hit the ground. Hopefully it's not too bad.

Ramos clearly meant it too when he played that long ball.
