Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

They`re said to have been interested in Buttner. 25 + Buttner would make sense for everyone. They can spend a third of that bumping up Pochettino`s salary to get him to stay and a good left-back to compete with Buttner and use the rest on the rock of a CB they badly need to make the step, and the extra attacker they need (2 when Lallana goes) to go with Rodriguez and Lambert.

With Evra probably moving to Inter, we need Buttner unless....we bring someone else to act as Shaw cover

I am only believing it because it is Martin Samuel. He, as far as I'm aware, doesn't talk shit with regards to transfers etc.

Aye, he just talks shite regarding everything else. He's just as clueless as all the others. Long haired freak.

Complete guess on my part but I wonder whether they have come to an agreement of sorts on the £27m figure and it's a case of agreeing how it is structured with us obviously wanting as much down to incentives and them as much as possible up front.

I think even that is done. We've had an on the table offer since January and i believe negotiations haven't stopped since then.

There was talk that we were in talks/had an agreement with that Bosnian left back who plays at Schalke...Kolasinac? Only 20 and would cost around £8m.

Perhaps, but he is I think the more respected of the journalists.

As for the hair. I fully agree. I used to hate watching him on Sunday Supplement when he put his head down and his hair would cover his face. He'd then flick it back up and then put his head down again. Repeat x100.

I feel we're overpaying a lot for Shaw. Given Soton financial position 20m is probably his value.

However we glaringly need a left back so it's natural for them to hold us ransom.

Moreno and Coentrao would be the cheaper options. Not sure who is the best one however from the 3 of them..

Jeez off season barely a day old and Woody is already sorting out shit.
It was already done a few weeks ago, the fact off season is a day old is why it's finally being released in the press, it would never of hit the press beforehand.

If we get 10-15 years out of then 27m isn't at all that bad. Also I would doubt that it would be 27m straight up and that there would be various clauses etc if the full transfer fee is to be paid.

Backup LB cover isn`t difficult to replace. Van Gaal might like some young, Dutch LB. Hell, from the relegated teams, there`s Fabio and Martin Olsson available for very little, and they are about as good going forward and as weak defensively as Buttner. There`s also the Sylvinho option of signing an experienced out of contract LB, like Eliseu from Malaga.

In that case we can let Buttner go. Jeez when was the last time we baught 2 left backs at one go?

Waste of time talking about the fee and whether it is value. The transfer fee will be loaded with appearance and achievement clauses, and his salary will be tied in to image rights etc. Just like with Rooney's contract, it'll be nowhere near as simple as us transferring £1.2m into his bank account on the first of the month.

This kid has huge potential. He is already a very accomplished full-back and he will get better under the right guidance. Great signing for us.

Agree with your post, just hope it won't affect our CM signings, because we need at least 2 big signings in central midfield.

Hopefully all that's left is the dotting of I's and crossing the t's on the contract, his medical and so on. We need to wrap this up quick so that we can turn to addressing the midfield (ie Kroos, Carvalho, etc)

This is done. Throw a party.

Samuel doesn't put his name to stuff like this unless it's concrete. He'll have contacts with the family, certainly.

He was my absolute ideal LB signing with Evra sticking around for another year to help Shaw come through. It doesn't look like the second part will happen but I reckon he will be an excellent signing.

Price wise, it doesn't matter that he's a left back, he's potentially world class and we won't need to fork out for another first choice left back for the next 10 years you'd assume. I'm excited about this, he was excellent against us yesterday and it looks like we are trying to get our business done early.

Well if manage to pull this one off, we certainly open this transfer window with a bang. Fans will feel slightly more at ease, considering the fast approach Woodward is taking this window. Kroos and Carvalho next Woody, with Reus and Hummels to follow?:nervous:

Gerrard's uncle(?) took him out one day and got that picture taken. Gerrard's dad wasn't happy about it.

My cousin has a kid with a Liverpool fan and she's converted to the dark side. When her daughter was a baby, the United fan side of the family put a little scarf and shirt on her and took a picture.

Yeah, something along those lines. I haven't read it, only been told about it.

 brilliant

"There are two transfer windows in each Barclays Premier League season.

The first commences at midnight on the last day of the season and ends on 31 August if a working day - or, if not, on the first working day thereafter, at a time determined by the Board.

The second transfer window commences at midnight on the 31 December and ends on the 31 January if a working day, and again, if not, on the first working day thereafter, at a time determined by the Board."

I thought the window doesn't officially open until 1st July?

I meant Blackett not Janko..yeah he probably will stay

Yeah Blackett would be 3rd choice I'd guess.

Like others have mentioned I'd have rather had Evra as #2 for backup (maybe we still will, who knows yet), and maybe get rid of Buttner. But with LVG coming, he might watch Buttner and decide he's a left winger and he might get chances there too.

Just some speculative bs from me.

Understatement of the year. We paid more for Rio over a decade ago, and I don't think anybody would claim he's not been worth the money.
For some reason, many people here seem to believe that somehow left-back is less important than other positions. Just over a month ago, we saw Evra responsible for all 4 goals in our match at the Allianz Arena.

Shaw is a complete player already and better than Evra who has hoodwinked fans into thinking he's still been an asset due to his charisma, when in reality he's been defensively abysmal and steadily losing pace and either the interest or physical ability to consistently track back for at least 3 or 4 years.

This silence is certainly suggestive that something is going on. Expect this to be announced soon.

I really hope we sign him. We will be paying a lot of money for an 18 year old full back but if he stays with us for the next 10-15 years it will be worth every penny. I am positive he is going to end up as good as Ashley Cole.

He is also home-grown which is always a bonus.

Plus I can finally stop splashing out £25 million for him on Football Manager.

That's naive man. It should concern us.

It's just not giving it any due concern. Signing Shaw doesn't automatically mean adnan or his agent will throw a strop. I'm sure after the game on sunday, Adnan will be happy not having to face him again potentially.

There is probably an acceptance that Shaw was always going to leave, I imagine. Lallana, though, is one of them. He's their captain and has went on the entire promotion journey with them. Him leaving would hurt them more.

That and they feel that a decent full back can replace him for a fraction of the price. By replace him, I mean replace what he offers right now. What they will be really losing is what he can (potentially) become.

I decided this deal was done weeks ago because all the ITK's on twitter said so.
