Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Eh? Shaw is one of the most exciting young players in the world right now, in a position where we are very weak. Why on earth would you not want to sign him?

Perhaps he's a Glazer in disguise.

If not, I wouldn't like to be his other half at Christmas.

"I was going to buy you that new Mercedes you were looking at, but I've got you this bus pass instead. It does the job!"

Farce is a bit strong. Decision could have gone either way, I'd probably narrowly give it to Azpilicueta but Shaw really has been fantastic.

It goes to show the British favouritism in my eyes, as good as Shaw has been for his age, Azpilicueta has been comfortably better. Lallana shouldn't be in that team as well.

Azpilicueta has been impressive but hasn't he only been playing left back for half the season?

Most of it.

Nope more or less the full season and part of the best back four in the league plus Baines has just in general been a better player than Shaw this season considering he has assisted and contributed more going forward.

Agree about Lallana, not about Shaw. You can't always shout British favouritism whenever you favour a foreigner over a Brit and someone doesn't agree. For me, they've been very, very close, it's got nothing to do with Shaw being English or whatever.

For me its more to do with his age than his nationality, he's been a sensation this year which has got people watching him, people love new!

He's not done much in our games against Southampton. That's what's causing me to be a bit unsure about him.

Last season he was sharing the LB duties with Danny Fox so I'm not even sure if he started either of the games against us. We have only played Southampton once so far this season and he did well that day when we drew at OT. Not too sure how you can judge him based on how he has done in a maximum of 3 games against us in any case.

I can't judge him in our games against him. That's the problem. For a domestic player, I'd at least expect a decent showing against United, especially if he's expected to be first choice. His performance earlier in the season was no better or worse than a dozen other fullbacks we've played against.

But that's just one game. His performances over the course of the season were significantly better than the vast majority of the fullbacks in the league (hence why he got voted into the team of the year).

That's why we have scouts. I was only talking about myself. I've never pretended to be an expert.

TBF, he's still only 18. There is plenty of opportunity for him to improve and become better. All the ingredients seem to be there though.

He has bulked up a fair bit as the season has gone on too, really has all the tools to potentially be great, but is a £30m going overboard?

Surely we've got him in the bag now considering the strong Filipe Luis to Chelsea rumours.

We would have a position nailed down for the next 10 years and beyond with this lad. I believe he's the real deal.

I think subconsciously there's a part of me that doesn't want to miss out on him after Bale. I know they're different players, but the similarities, namely the fact that they're both young British talents from Southampton's academy, playing in the same position and hyped like mad, have made me not want to see this happen again.

Not that i'm expecting to see Shaw move up the pitch and start banging in the goals, but yeah...

This totally went past my attention but Mike Keegan today said that there are very strong rumors Luke Shaw is already done although Southampton are still denying it. This was said in today's MEN webchat, I apologize if this has already been posted but these transfer threads are too fast. :(

Really hope we get him, he's excellent for his age and will surely only get better. He'd make a great replacement for Evra, although I'd like to see both at the club next season competing for the LB spot in the team. Having someone like Pat to mentor Shaw would be beneficial to his development, and I also think Pat's form would improve as he wouldn't have to play pretty much every game.

Go away Luke. Do not want.

Coentrao would cost less and do the job and do it well. And no I didn't mention him because he is the flavour of the month, if you search my post history I have said this even when he was still on the bench because of the overrated Marcello.

We get it, you don't want Shaw. The rest of us do.

I'd be delighted with either. Coentrao is definitely top quality and allegedly available at a decent price, while Saw has the potential to be a legend.

Do you not rate Shaw, or do you feel Coentrao would be better suited to us?

Didn't Coentrao recently sign a new deal though? He seems to play most games now as well, there's probably no chance that move will happen. Shaw will be well worth the money in the long run, he's going to be one of the best left backs in Europe.

Alex Buttner is that you?

This line has been used over used far too many times in the transfer forum!

Let see how he reacts to moving to a big club first.

A big reason why I'm a big fan of Shaw is that we'd have atleast one extremely talented british player. There aren't many at the moment who are good enough to be a starting player for us and he could be one for a long time.

Are you fighting with SolidState to see who can say the more ridiculous thing?

Sorry had to.

The prices being mentioned for this lad are ridiculous. 30 million quid for a left back is never a good idea. He's a great talent and all but there are others we can get, who are as good or almost as good for a much better prices. Ali adnan for example is a monster of a left back talent and we'd probably get him for a fraction of how much soton wants for this lad.

If we pay 30m for Shaw, just forget us getting any young player for decent price.
