I agree.

I am really surprised at some people's reactions. This signing was expected all season long, nothing to get too excited about.

Then again, I am not one to get excited over transfers.

All year long I know I'm getting a blumpkin for my birthday but that doesn't mean I sit there and go "booooring!"

We're signing one of the most talented players in the world in a position we need to strengthen. In my book that's something to get very excited about.

Why do people give a shit about the transfer fee?

Haven't read this thread back but it's reported now that he's had (and passed) the medical.

Because I want this club to be well managed and I don't want it to be like City, PSG or even Real, Barcelona. It is not my money, that is true, yet I take some kind of pride or counsellation out of the fact money at this club is being spend in a rational smart manner, it is supposed to be what sets us apart from the previously mentioned clubs and it gives the succes we get a more powerfull meaning, it makes it more satisfactory because you know the way in which we achieved it is sustainable. In short no it may not be my money but that doesn't mean I don't care about the way it is being spend and the way it is being spend by this club in the last couple of years is not to my liking. We have refused to spend when we could get really good players for sensible deals, we have said no to players we can only dream about now because of the principle of a millions more here and there on agent fees, yet we have spend absurd money on players we don't need and that aren't good enough, especially if they carry the english nationality we always like to pay atleast 50% more than what they are worth. Herrera I could understand because of his contract and our need for a very good MF but Shaw is just utter madness, no other way to describe it.

Again I'am happy with these 2 players, but both of them together are worth perhaps £40 mil, we have paid close to £60m for them. I would like to see our money being spend a bit better.
I'm not worried about the amount of money we spend. I think our people in charge have a much larger understanding of finances than of footy, so I'm quite certain they know if we can or cannot afford to splash like this.

Now we also have somebody in charge of the footballing aspect who has a proven trackrecord of identifying the proper targets and implementing players in the most useful positions.

I think it's a great position we're in. Even if we are overpaying here and there, we're only overpaying in the eyes of the clubs that don't have such solid income streams as we do. I'd be afraid and annoyed if I were in their position, too. United are driving the prices up and there are only a handful of clubs who will be able to compete. And thanks to great foundational work in the past, we are one of those clubs.

Most of the papers seem fairly clueless about the intricacies of this deal. Throwing figures from £30-40m about when it was agreed weeks ago, presumably for the original £27m bid.

Yeah there is only a select few who have been accurate, I think it will be £27 Million + add ons to possible take it to £34 Million.

I think we are fecked then. Come on only 2-3 of these players need to leave. Rest are either good squad players or still developing.
Lets buy everyone and sell everyone... Look at the squads england, spain or italy had at WC and they are out of world cup, even some players are past it still could win the world cup if well managed.. Look at the likes of Mexico, Costa rica, their squads relly average but their philosophy is spot on and they get best out of the players.. I would go on club level with the likes of Everton, or even Liverpool had pretty average team, Southampton.. they all played fancy stuff and finished much higher than expected because they have got a good manager who led them forward. You are right at some points in your anylisis but there is no way we will sell the half of the squad, and buy the new buch of players.. I think left back is coming and then maybe young talent like Depay, centre back ? we will see but we can cope without that and two players might leave - Anderson, Nani, two injury prones who didnt fullfill expectations.. sadly I can see young staying.. All other players deserve a chance under new manager, Surely hes more capable than Dave and after he finds out some players dont match his philosophy he will get rid of them in January as well as bring in some more new players if neccesary

It's happening isn't it?

We are actually buying players, in positions that we need to strengthen...

It's really happening.

The only way this summer is gonna be better is if we'd signed Vidal. Or Ronaldo. Or sold Ashley Young.

Marvellous news. Couldn't give a toss about the fee. Have money + need player = get in. The odd few million means nowt in the grand scheme of things.

Both Herrera and Shaw are transfers that should remind folk of just how much appeal we have as a club and that it extends far beyond money. Herrera has bought into us big time. According to Mitten “Shaw’s family have long preferred a move to Utd over Chelsea as they know it’s a more stable club & doesn’t rely on a benefactor” (cheers Mel F) Some on here have been seriously doubting our ability to attract the best all of a sudden and it's plainly not the case. Really heartening to see quality players foregoing just a year of CL football beacuse they know that long term this is a club to be part of. More to come by all accounts and those predicting our imminent demise can start worrying a bit already.

Great few days

So I'm on my third day of holiday and we already have made two signings. Ffs Woody. Can't even participate in the muppetry completely.

It's tomorrow. Where the shit is he? Sort it ffs Ed.

(I wish I could call him Woody. It feels wrong :()

Tour, contract and photos in the morning, announced some time this afternoon, sounds about right?

Despite being really happy about all of this I just don't understand how we are doing it. I mean, LVG is with Holland, so the credit for all of this has to go to Woody for being able to tie down the deals right?

I don't want to sound like a muppet but 27 million for a player of Shaw's caliber is nothing if he stays injury free. A nineteen year old English teenager who has the capability to start for United's first team. Think about the talent this guy posses. And here I am... 21 and wanking... pathetic I am!

I think you don't realise I was being sarcastic with the "We are fecked then".

I am basically saying what you said in short.

So, I can't really be bothered reading through pages and pages. Is the deal like actually happening or is just another wind-up?

It that is correct, then the price is nothing to cry about. 27m is sound - and if it grows beyond that then it means that United have done very well.
The price is absolutely fine, we're getting a player who has a very high ceiling.
