Luke Shaw | Deal done! Almost...

Can't believe people are still arguing about the price. Throughout history fans have complained about transfer fees - it's nothing new. Like it or not we're in a market that demands these fees. Pay them and compete at the top level or don't pay them and don't compete at the top level. Simple.

The lot over on the shed end (Chelsea forum) have certainly changed their tone from one page to another.. it started off with "the kid is a CFC fan so the deal is as good as done" to now "he isn't even good, he is defensively weak and will never be as good as Dave let alone Ash Cole"... bless them

Hope this this turns out to be a Rio like signing, where people talk about the transfer fee being too much first, and then watch as it more than returns the investment. All said and done, I would have liked to see us get Blind over Shaw, though.

Er? One is a left back the other is DM?

Agreed. We have no real choice now. All those years Sir Alex saying there was no value were wasted. Prices are going through the roof because of the new TV deal. Wait till the new CL TV deal kicks in and they will rise again.

Didn't he only say the 'no value' thing once and suddenly that's been turned into an internet meme where we pretend he said it every year since 2002 in his sleep?

Would you have said that before the World Cup?

Well, it would have been a lot closer then, but Blind was on our radar the moment LVG was appointed, and looked like he could make it, too.

Well, one is worth 30m, while the other can be acquired for less than 15m. One is a promising English youngster (the kind who have been of late, with all due respect, not been able to achieve their potential), and the other is a technically sound proven Dutch option playing football at the highest level. And Blind can play multiple positions with equal ability, it's not as if he hasn't been used as LB prior to the WC.

Don't get me wrong, Shaw is a great player. But it's just that there's a certain element of risk involved in this transfer that would have been absent if Blind were our signing. Like I said, I hope it's Rio-esque again.

We can never be sure how much Blind is worth until he's bought by someone, besides the main problem is that he's not a LB. He's makeshift LB when there are no other options. Shaw is natural LB. Buying Blind to fill in that position just because is cheaper is like putting Jones as DM because he can play there.

I thought the argument was we waited for NYSE to close, not wait for it to open?

Now Im well and truly confused.

I still think the time in New York has absolutely no bearing on when we announce transfers.

I wonder if they put clause on Bale when he was sold to Tottenham. Something like 10% of his next transfer.
They did have a 25% sell on clause but they were low on cash so they bought out the clause to spurs for about £3m eventually losing £21m

We've paid the asking price for a player we all agree we needed but people are stilm moaning. Every transfer has an element of risk to it but the fact remains that it's a necessary evil plus we haven't gone wrong with young English big money signings, ever. The sixty million we spent on Rooney and Rio is now looking like chicken feed .

Are City and Chelsea fans wondering why their clubs can't sort out transfers quickly and quietly like United?

OMG WHY HASN'T WOODY SORTED THIS YET U R CLUELESS!11111

Seriously though, looking forward to seeing Shaw play in a United shirt. He's impressed me whenever I have seen him play. Le Tissier really dislikes us too so he'll be crying into his pillow tonight

Considering a few pages ago, someone was ridiculing SSN and saying they had no clue, because they reported he was having his medical today, while other sources said he'd done it last night, and now it looking like the reverse, no one has a clue(as usual) it seems.

I wonder why nobody have posted any pictures from Carrington. Previously there's always been pre-transfer pictures taken, so either Carrington has been locked up tight or the media is affraid.

Come on Shaw lad! You'll like it here. We make a good cuppa!
