I doubt they will do the same thing for shaw. British talent has a shit reputation in terms of settling elsewhere.

No wonder why british talent rarely move outside britian

Not true. It's simply that the EPL is twice as wealthy as any other league.

Exactly when Serie A was the richest league you saw the likes of Ince, Platt, Gazza try their luck there. Since England right now has the most popular and richest league there is little reason to move elsewhere.

Out of interest, when did Scholes suddenly become a media rent-a-gob? Never struck me as the type.

Personally, I think a generous price for Shaw is 17 million. The talk of 20+, 30+ million is hilarious to me. This is a player who is being hyped up beyond all reason. He's still a very young man and while being a good prospect for the future he does not have the technical ability or composure of a player worth 30 million. Not even close. Why should we pay so drastically over the odds when there are better fullbacks out there for less than half the price? Scholes is right to say the premium on English players is so silly it's actually damaging the developement of said players as cheaper alternatives from abroad are sought.

Scholes is right. £34m is ridiculous. For Shaw. There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

What makes a left-back less valuable or important than any other position? I do not understand this mindset.

Shaw would be an excellent acquisition, a top talent who would be a fixture in our side for over a decade. Of course it is true that we can never be 100% with how a player will progress, I will always prefer the club to take the risk of buying a young player with extraordinary potential, over an older but more ordinary player who may represent slightly less short-term risk.

34m/40m is not 'market price'. Heck, neither is 27m. We are the only ones who want this kid, there is no one else willing to offer that money for him, and for good reason.

He is a talented LB, but not as much to justify these ridiculous figures. We will probably sign him for around the initial amount we bid around 30m mark, but I can't see us going higher than that.

Also, unless anyone here can see the future, then we have no clue whether he will be a good buy or not. This claim that he will be here as first choice LB for the next decade or so is complete baseless assumption. Players can get injuries, or their development can stall or they can even regress, there is no sure way of knowing it. If he was such a sure bet to be one of the best LBs in the world, then a lot more clubs would be in for him.

It is a gamble for sure, every talented youngster is. So, becaue of the kind of money being touted, it is no surprise that we are cautious of the amount we are willing to splash here.

If we really want him, then we should get him. No other club makes as much money as we do, so what if we spend above average on a few players here or there. It's not our money and if it means Glazers get less at the end, who cares?

We're talking peanuts here in the grand scheme of things.

£34 million is a heck of a lot for a LB, but if he becomes anywhere near as good as Gareth Bale, then we'll be crying ourselves to sleep if we let him go.*

*NB. The chances of this happening are very slim.

Or buy him for 30 mill signs for 5 years then leaves on a free to join his boyhood idols!
Doesn't sound such a good deal then, does it.
For the fee United can do much better.

Wilshere was also very injury prone from the very start of his career.

Good point.
Wilshere in his first full season at Arsenal: 49 apps, 35 in league
Shaw had 28 apps with 25 in the league.

Wilshere in his second season:33 apps with 25 being in the league.
Shaw has 38 with 35 in the league.

He's very, very reliable for Southampton related news.
